RETRACTION OF THE REAR RUN-UNDER GUARD EXEMPTION Application of Directive 70/221 relative to rear protection devices for vehicles and trailers exempted certain bodies with the need for rear run-under guards in France when their usage was incompatible. Circular 2002-60 dated 10 October 2002 retracts this waiver. Application date for all ranges: registration on 31 March 2003. BODIES AND/OR AXLE SPREADS HENCEFORTH SUBJECT TO THE APPLICATION OF FITTING REAR RUN-UNDER GUARDS - Highway: all vehicles except where working tools or work zones are situated at the rear. - Tippers - Off-road and all-terrain vehicles - Public works vehicles - Sliding platforms - Tail lifts: Vertical in the « road » position: fitting of a rear run-under guard mandatory with a discontinuity waiver for the passage of lifting rams. THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT- and bodies are still exempted from the need for fitting rear run-under guards (as they provide a structural barrier against under-run): - Tail lifts: Horizontal under the chassis in the « road » position: fitting of a rear run-under guard is not mandatory if the tail lift is in compliance with Directive 70/221. - Breakdown vehicles: The wheel lift crossbar can play the part of rear run-under guard if it is in compliance with Directive 70/221. - Fire & rescue vehicles: A waiver is granted for vehicles for very special applications and usages (example: Fire & Rescue). - RCVs: Rear loading bodies are still exempted from the fitting of rear run-under guards. Note : The regulation authorizes convoying of the vehicle to the place of bodybuilding without a rear run-under guard Please find hereafter the RENAULT TRUCKS offer for vehicles: - RENAULT MIDLUM - RENAULT PREMIUM - RENAULT KERAX.

REAR UNDERRUN PROTECTION ON RENAULT MIDLUM PREMIUM AND KERAX

RENAULT MIDLUM : - No rear underrun on Refuse and Fire Tender trucks. - Tippers (models B, C and D) : Rigid underrun protection with seperate rear light supports. (see annexes 1, 2 and 3) - Trucks classified "off road" (14, 16 and 18t) rigids and draw-bars : Liftable underrun protection (see drawing showing the principle and main dimensions in annexe 4) - 4x4 Trucks (12 to 16t) rigids and draw-bars : Liftable underrun protection (see drawing showing the principle and main dimensions in annexe 5) RENAULT PREMIUM : Liftable rear underrun protection on 4x2 and 6x2 rigids and drawbars with wheelbases from 3815 to 4750 inclusive with the exception of 4x2-18t rigid, 3815 wheelbase, mechanical rear suspension. (see annexe 6) RENAULT KERAX : Liftable rear underrun protection on trucks which will be equipped with tipping bodies. See the drawings showing the installations on: - 4x2 and 4x4 in annexe 7 - 6x4, 8x4 and 6x6) in annexe 8 Note : 4x4 and 6x6 are fitted longer bar support brackets (see annexe 9) In the on road position, the maximum body overhang is 360mm measured from the rearmost face of the bar. For overhangs which exceed this dimension it is the responsibility of the bodybuilder to apply for dispensation from the appropriate legal authority. For trucks of the above types which are not fitted ex factory with the rear underrun protection, a kit with the mounting instructions included will be made available. Note : Draw-bar applications are for couplings mounted on the chassis rear closing cross-member. Draw-bars for centre axle trailer towing are not included.
