MOTHER’S DAY

This Week In Our Parish

BISHOPS ANNUAL LENTEN APPEAL UPDATE Thank you to all who have pledged to this year’s appeal. To date, we have received $100,735 in pledges toward our goal of $100,000.00. By doing our part to give generously to those who are in need and are suffering, we continue to share Christ’s love by supporting the mission of the Church through this year’s Appeal. Every dollar raised to make our goal supports important Diocesan ministries and services. Reminder: Every dollar that we exceed our goal is refunded to our parish unrestricted.

PARISH COUNCIL By Baptism into the Body of Christ and by Confirmation, all of us are asked to be of service to the Christian community. Serving on the Parish Council would enable you to join with your pastor and fellow parishioners in furthering the mission of our parish. Parish Council meets once a month for approximately 1 1/2 hours. At present there are 4 vacant positions. Elections will be held the weekends of May 20/21 and May 27/28. Please consider thoughtfully and prayerfully being part of the opportunity to enhance the life of our parish. Self-nomination forms are in the parish office, in the back of the church and on the parish website.

PARISH FESTIVAL The 2017 Parish Festival will be on Saturday, September 16th. We will be having a talent show again this year! Please contact the parish office if you are interested in performing. Performers can be individuals or groups. We are also in need of gift cards to purchase items from Walmart. Please send gift cards to the parish office. Next meeting will be Wednesday, May 31st in the Office Meeting Room.

FATHER’S DAY MASSES AND FLOWER MEMORIALS - Spiritual Bouquet Cards for Father’s Day are available at the back of the Church. On the return envelope please list your Father’s name, living or deceased. (Memorial envelopes are available separately if your Father is deceased and the card is not needed.) All the Masses on Fathers Day and Altar Flowers on Father’s Day weekend will be in their honor or memory. If received by Sunday, June 4th, these names will be printed in the Father’s Day bulletin.

PRAY FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS Please pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in North Korea, which for 14 years has ranked #1 on the World watch List as the most dangerous place to be a Christian. 25% of Christians live in work camps. The rest worship in secret. Parents often cannot share their faith with their children lest they accidentally expose their faith to teachers. Christianity is illegal, and the punishment for owning a Bible is death. Despite these terrible conditions, the Church is growing.

ATTENTION NEWLY TRAINED ALTAR SERVERS If you are a newly trained altar server, please contact the parish office with your contact information (Name, Mass preference, email, unavailability) so we can schedule you for the next scheduling period. Thank you to those who have already done so.

SAVE THE DATE! - Our annual Baccalaureate Celebration to honor our high school seniors will be held on Sunday, June 4, during the 8:30 A.M. Mass. A breakfast will follow in Saint Hubert Hall. Additional information will be mailed to each family.

VOLUNTEERS FOR GEISINGER EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY NEEDED. There is an urgent need for volunteers to bring the Eucharist to Geisinger patients and to help Fr. John Cyriac with the paperwork. Time involved is small (less than an hour or two each week, or every other week) and the reward is great. Please contact Bob Kurland ([email protected] or 570-275-5454) if you’re interested.

ARE YOU REGISTERED AT ST JOSEPH PARISH? Many families move in and out of Danville all the time due to their line of work. Even if you will be here only a few years, we ask that you register in the Parish. Frequently, families will call for a Sacramental Sponsor Certificate or to have their child baptized and find out they are not on the Parish Census. We are not able to certify that you are a Catholic in good standing if we do not know who you are; and we need permission from your Pastor to baptize your child if you are not a member here.

The Blessed Virgin Mary Light will burn this week for Helen Forgotch as a gift from her daughter.
