CHRISTIAN FORMATION Nancy Brinkac: [email protected]

PIZZA AND STATIONS - Our Hispanic and Anglo families will join together on Friday, March 22, at 6:00pm to pray the Stations of the Cross using the artistic depictions of each station made by the CF classes. Weather permitting we'll have the posters set up around our beautiful Incarnation campus, otherwise we'll pray the stations in the classroom hallway. There will be parts for children, parents and everyone upon which to read and reflect ("the pray part"). Then we'll have a meal of pizza with water to drink ("the fast part"). Won't you join your parish family to learn just who Jesus is to you and your family, to experience why Lent is different from all other liturgical seasons, and to show your love for your brothers and sisters in Christ who need your support ("the charity/alms part")! Pizza: $5/person,$10/ family. ATTENTION PARENTS OF CHILDREN PREPARING FOR FIRST EUCHARIST: Our next session is Bread Baking Day on Sat., March 16, from 9:00am until noon. Parents (at least one) and children will gather promptly at 9:00am to bake bread under the direction of Al Reynolds and assistants. While our bread is baking, children will attend workshops, view a video, hear a story, make a craft all based on the Eucharist, and practice receiving Communion with unconsecrated bread and wine. The morning will conclude with a family meal of the baked bread, breads from other cultures, and grape juice, which will cause all to reflect on the meaning of Eucharist. Kindly contact Nancy to reserve the nursery for younger children and also to advise if more than one parent and child is attending. Thank you. PARTICIPATE in The Great Adventure Bible Timeline series DURING LENT: We're opening the Bible Timeline to everyone during Lent. No need to have any materials other than your Bible (any Catholic edition will do). We will spend 3 sessions on the 11th period of salvation history (Messianic Fulfillment) and 3 sessions on the 12th period (The Church). Tuesday morning from 10:00am to 11:30am in the Parish Activities Center. No need to commit to every session. Come to any you can make. Learn more about who Jesus is to you, and how the church was formed to continue the kingdom in His absence.

WINE SUNDAY: We are very low in Mass wine. A reminder that several times a year, we ask each parish household to help replenish the supply of wine used at our Masses, by donating a bottle of RED WINE. You may bring it when you come to Liturgy, or drop it off at the Parish Office during the week. We ask that you DO NOT bring white, rosé, or sweet wines. Thank you.

Whenever rites, according to their specific nature, make provision for communal celebration involving the presence and active participation of the faithful, it is to be stressed that this way of celebrating them is to be preferred, as far as possible, to a celebration that is individual and, so to speak, private. -- Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #27

Church of the Incarnation - Parish Planned Giving A Simple Provision Leads to Immeasurable Impact One of the most unique and impactful ways of ensuring the future of Church of the Incarnation is through a legacy gift. A legacy gift can take many forms such as a simple bequest as a part of your estate plans and can be of great benefit in helping fulfill your personal financial objectives. Creating a provision in your will is simple and easy to do, as the following sample provision demonstrates. Sample Bequest Language I give, devise, and bequeath to (Church of the Incarnation, Charlottesville, Virginia) the sum of $_____ (or) ______percent (%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, for the following purposes (if any): If you are interested in more information or would like to let us know of plans already in motion, please contact Izzy Menchero, 434-973-4381 or [email protected]. This announcement is for educational purposes only and not considered professional financial or legal advice.

GET INVOLVED WITH OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN: Thanks to everyone who has helped to prepare our community garden for our spring planting, especially during the workday on Saturday, March 9. The food grown in our garden will go to help families in our Parish Food ministry. As the weather gets warmer and our garden starts producing, weʼll need more hands to help with this ministry. If you can help with planting, harvesting, weeding, and/or watering, please contact Kristen in the office to get involved. We welcome any amount of help (weekly, once a month, for one week during the summer, etc.) Families and children are welcome to participate too. IMPACT MASS/MEETING: On Thurs., March 14, weʼll have our second annual Justice & Peace Mass at 6:30pm, followed by our parish IMPACT Network meeting that will help prepare us to reach our goal of 350 people for the Nehemiah Action on Mon., April 29. PRISON MINISTRY SPRING BANQUET: Good News Jail & Prison Ministry is sponsoring their annual spring banquet to benefit the work of the program in our local jail and prison system. Pray for these women who have the courage to start their own businesses, and make a contribution to your Rice Bowl to support people working to provide a better livelihood for their families.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The Health Ministry has started a "Prayer Shawl Ministry". The shawl serves as a mantle and sign of God's healing presence to strengthen someone who is weary, to ease their suffering and to comfort them when in pain or when they feel alone. The shawls are made with love by parishioners. Prayer shawls are

available in the Parish Office. There is no cost for the shawl. Donations are accepted.

Lenten Care for Creation Challenge During Lent, join our Care for Creation Challenge! Check out this weekʼs action items about energy use. For each action you take, fill out a leaf and place it on our Care for Creation Tree in the

Narthex. By the time Easter comes, our community will have brought the tree to life and decreased our impact on Godʼs creation! Your actions do make a difference. This weekʼs focus: Food “From the moment you put a piece of bread in your mouth, you are part of the world. Who grew the wheat? Who made the bread? Where did it come from? You are in relationship with all who brought it to the table. We are least separate and most in common when we eat and drink.” [Thomas Merton] ~ Abstain from meat this week. Consider all the resources that go into its production—water, grain, and land for raising livestock; gas and oil for transportation; and packaging to prepare the meat for sale—and instead focus on simpler meals. ~ Save your food scraps and bring them to Incarnationʼs compost bin next weekend. See the handout on the Green Team bulletin board for details. ~ Buy food grown and processed close to home. It saves transportation resources, supports local producers, and is generally healthier. ~ Choose an action of your own to practice food justice!

YOUTH MINISTRY Patrick Drury: [email protected]

WORK CAMP sponsored by the Diocese of Richmond, is a weeklong faith experience where students have the opportunity to serve our sisters and brothers in need through home repair projects. All projects are designed to make homes warmer, safer, drier, and greener, and include window and door replacement, building wheelchair ramps, painting, and roofing. Work Camp is June 22-28 in Danville, VA and is open to students in grades 8-12. The cost is $250 for the entire week if you register by March 22. $75 deposit required with your registration form. We also need adults who can serve in the Work Camp clinic (doctors or nurses) and who can lead a work project (people with home improvement skills–being a professional contractor is NOT required). If you're interested, please visit www.incarnationparish.org/youth/calendar or contact Patrick for further information or to register. MULCH DISTRIBUTION: We need help distributing hundreds of bags of mulch throughout the area. If you're willing to help on Thurs., Fri., or Sat., March 21, 22, or 23, we need adults and teens to help with loading and unloading trucks. We also need the use of vehicles that can transport loads from church to area homes: if you have a truck that you would drive yourself or a vehicle you can loan us, either would be very helpful. Please contact Patrick for further information.
