I love it when I get text messages through the week commenting on the class.

“I've been reading through the Psalms the last couple of weeks and I see David's heart cry magnify what we are learning in Revelation. Further evidence to me that the bible must be taken as an entire book of 'good news'. It all points to an ultimate end. Glory to God and eternal blessing or eternal judgement and the demise of those

that do not follow God. There are too many verses to share here, but with fresh

eyes this one stood out this morning.”

On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man. Psalm 12:8

“eternal judgement and the demise of those that do not follow God.”

Why these terrible judgements on the earth?

I don’t think we can comprehend this until we attempt to understand how deathly serious is God is about

sin.

For the punishment of a single sin, God changed the course of history for His entire creation.

Page 6: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

Ask yourself this….. when Jesus hung on the cross, bearing the enormous weight of sin, was He bearing the weight of only past

sins or all sin, past and future?

Page 7: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

So every sin committed today and into the future made the weight Jesus bore that much heavier.

God takes sin seriously because of the weight of sin borne by His Son.

The heavenly symphony of voices tunes up again…. 15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of

the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Revelation 11:15 …..and proclaims that earthly rule will pass into the

hands of God. The first thing we hear is the announcement of the Kingdom!

Hallelujah! (Chorus by Handel)

The details of the transfer of powers will be described in the rest of the book. Jesus will purge out the evil of

this world and come triumphant as the final victor at Armageddon and rule forever.

Daniel foresaw this and wrote about it in Chapters 2,3, 6 and 7.

The coronation of the King is not far in the distance!

35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like

the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be

found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. Daniel 2:35

26 thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt that which is low, and bring low that which is exalted. 27 A ruin, ruin, ruin I will make it. This also shall not be, until he comes, the one to whom judgment belongs, and I will

give it to him. Ezekiel 21:26-27

44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall

break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever. Daniel 2:44

3Then How great are his signs,     how mighty his wonders!

His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,     and his dominion endures from generation to

generation. Daniel 4:3

26 I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel,

14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. 26 But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end. 27 And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the

kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; his kingdom

shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.’ Daniel 7:14, 26-27

9 And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

Zechariah 14:9 The destruction of earthly power is well underway as seen in the fact that seven trumpets are contained in

the seventh seal and the seven bowls are contained in the seventh trumpet. Christ’s rule over the earth is

imminent even though we are only halfway through the book. Christ will not only reign in the millennium, but

he shall reign forever and ever (Revelation 11:15b).

Queue the symphony of voices!!!! 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones

before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,     who is and who was,

for you have taken your great power     and begun to reign.

Revelation 11:16-17 The Lord will not be officially crowned until He

defeats all His enemies at the battle of Armageddon. But the saints leave their thrones, bow and worship!

This heavenly choir of raptured saints sing praises to the Lord as they worship Him as the Lord God Almighty! He is worshipped for His titles and triumphs. The worship is

a steady crescendo to the coming ultimate triumph of Christ! The raptured saints in heaven bow before the King

and worship because they see Him beginning to reign!

They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our

blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Revelation 6:10

Close now!!!! Very close!!!!

7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;

today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,

and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron

and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.” Psalm 2:7-9

18 The nations raged,     but your wrath came,

and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints,

and those who fear your name,     both small and great,

and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.” Revelation 11:18

This covers a lot of territory from the rapture through the end of the millennium. These events are more than 1000

years apart. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the

thousand years were ended. Revelation 20:5a

This is a separate event from the first two.

Sometimes we get confused because we read two or more events in a single verse or verses that could be

centuries apart.

There is an incredibly wonderful example of this demonstrated between the books of Isaiah and Luke.

Page 22: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,     because the Lord has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor;     he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,     and the opening of the prison to those who are

bound;

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,

and the day of vengeance of our God; Isaiah 61:1-2

This prophecy literally spans the entire period between the first and second coming of Jesus.

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and

he stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was

written, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me     to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives     and recovering of sight to the blind,

to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.

Luke 4:16-20

Jesus stopped at the comma! Jesus said He was sent to

“to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” Jesus had been born and walked among them to

proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor!

21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:21

We are living in the coma! There are centuries of time contained in the comma! Between the birth of Christ

and the day of vengeance of our God;

19 Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple.

Revelation 11:19a The ark of the testament is the visible sign of the

presence of God! This would have a tremendous impact on the Jew! To every Jew, the ark of the testament was a sign of the divine power of God in their midst! In the Old

Testament economy it was symbolic of God’s law and God’s Word. Every Jew would understand that in the midst of all this destruction, there was a certainty in

God’s provision! (Remember the manna preserved in the ark!)

Revelation 12 begins another parenthetical pause which will end at 14:20. In Revelation 12, seven primary

characters are introduced! (Proof to follow!) 1. The woman, representing Israel 2. The dragon, representing Satan 3. The male child, referring to Christ 4. Michael, representing the angels 5. Israel, the remnant of the woman’s seed 6. The beast out of the sea, the world dictator 7. The beast out of the earth, the false prophet and

religious leader of the world

In the close of Chapter 11, Jesus is declared the winner!

But, beginning in Chapter 12, and then through Chapters 13 and 14, we go all the way back from the

fall of Lucifer in times past into the present, and into the great tribulation period. We will now examine this

great world dictator more closely. This is the antichrist, inspired by Satan. Beginning here, we will

view the tribulation period all over again, but from the vantage point of evil. Not of God, but of Satan.

She is NOT the Mother Church, as some Protestant faiths believe.

Nowhere is scripture is the church called a “woman” or is she called a “wife”.

If she is spoken of in female terms, she is referred to as a bride. She becomes a wife only in Revelation 19 at the Marriage Supper of the

Lamb. The church never brought forth Christ,

Christ brought forth the Church!

9 Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars (Joseph is the 12th star) were bowing down to me.”

Genesis 37:9

This dream represents the nation of Israel. Jacob knew that the eleven stars, plus one - Joseph, was to

be the nation of Israel. Israel is compared to a woman many times in both the

Old and New Testament: Isaiah 54:1, 47:7-9, 50:1, Jeremiah 3:1-21, Hosea 2:1-23.

Page 39: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

Israel is introduced as a woman - a mother about to give birth.

What was the hope of every Jewish woman?

To give birth to a male child! Specifically, the Messiah!

He shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He shall

not pay attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all. Daniel 11:37

2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth.

Revelation 12:2

The woman is experiencing the pain and tribulation of nation of Israel, and is giving birth to Christ!

4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and

the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God

over all, blessed forever. Amen. Romans 9:4-5 Before Christ was born, Israel went through many periods

of affliction, thus, the birth pains and agony of giving birth!

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law

(the law represents Israel), Galatians 4:4

This is the Mosaic Law. Who had the Mosaic Law…. Israel.

3 behold, a great red dragon, Revelation 12:3b

The dragon is identified as Satan in verse 9. His color is red, the color of blood. He is great because of the

power he has to rule the earth. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do

your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning John 8:44a

3 with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. Revelation 12:3b

Seven is a number of completeness, representing his complete dominion over the earth.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the

spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

3 with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. Revelation 12:3b

Seven heads and ten horns are also a reference to the original ten kingdoms discussed in Daniel 7:7-8

7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had

great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet. It was different from all the beasts

that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked

up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Page 47: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

So, the horns represent strength and the crowns represent kingdoms. We’ll read more about the

kingdoms in Chapters 13 and 17.

Satan has his kingdom. He is the ruler over this world.

Page 48: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me John 14:30

11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. John 16:11

In Luke 4:5-7, Jesus did not dispute the claims of Satan’s ownership when Satan offered Him the “kingdoms of the

world”. The description of the dragon closely resembles the

“beast rising out of the sea” in Chapter 13. The dragon is represented in heaven while the beast is on the earth. The beast appears after the dragon is cast down from heaven.

4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth.

Revelation 12:4a Isaiah 14:12-14 recounts the fall of Satan from heaven. In this verse we find that Satan took a third of the angels with him. We know that the stars refer to angels because

of the Isaiah reference - “How you are fallen from heaven,

O Day Star, son of Dawn! Isaiah 14:12a

Page 50: Revelation Notes Week 9 (12-2-18) - Family Bible Church · 2019-09-17 · thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Things shall not remain as they are. Exalt

4 And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he

might devour it. Revelation 12:4b

The dragon hates the woman and desires to kill the child!

Satan’s plan has always been to destroy the nation of Israel to thwart the plan of God!

6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be

nourished for 1,260 days (3 1/2 years). Revelation 12:6

There is a tremendous time lapse between Verse 5 (birth and ascension of Christ) and Verse 6, which is

not uncommon in prophecy. Israel is enjoying comparative peace in the first 3 1/2 years of the

tribulation, so the reference must be to the preservation of a portion of the nation Israel through

the great tribulation and into the millennium.

This verse indicates that during the intense part of the great tribulation, this remnant of Israel will be

protected by God.

purpose of the war is to expel the dragon and his angels.

John F. Walvoord writes that this event marks the beginning of the great tribulation.

This is not a mänō ä mänō fight between God and Satan. Satan couldn’t even last a round with God.

This battle is between a created Lucifer and a created Michael! Satan likes to make you think he is God’s

equal. Michael and Satan have tangled before.

9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment,

but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” Jude 1:9

Revelation 12:8 We know that Satan has had access to heaven.

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also

came among them. Job 1:6

Satan’s activities will now be restricted totally to the earth! This is a major step in his ultimate defeat, and Satan is really, really angry about it and full of wrath!

Satan has been thrown down and there is great rejoicing in heaven! The loud voice could be the

martyred saints in heaven under the altar because thy refer to the accuser of our brothers.

11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not

their lives even unto death. Revelation 12:11

Three powerful spiritual weapons are employed to secure the victory of the saints.

1. The blood of the Lamb renders the believer pure and makes possible his spiritual victory

2. The word of the believer’s testimony opposes the deceiving work of Satan in that the Gospel is the Power of God unto salvation

3. The believers are so totally committed that they die as martyrs

Revelation 12:12 Heaven rejoices, but the earth trembles because Satan

has no more opportunity in heaven to accuse the brotherhood. He is livid and will now focus his entire

attention and wrath on the earth. Many commentators feel that this marks the beginning of the Great

Tribulation and, if so, Satan has 3 1/2 years left in his reign on earth and scripture says he knows it.

turn all of his focus and all of his energy on the nation of Israel throughout the Great Tribulation.

many peoples who are with him torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur. Ezekiel 38:22
