Thirty-Third Sunday November 15, 2015

Dear Parishioners, Next weekend we welcome back home our seminarian Shalindra who will be speaking at all the masses about the Annual Seminary Appeal. It is through your generosity to this Appeal that no man is ever turned away from studying and discerning to be a priest.

Tuition for a seminarian working towards his B.A. in Philosophy is $32,975 per year. Undergraduate courses include classical language, literature and philosophy. The undergraduate program prepares seminarians for advanced Theological studies.

Tuition for a seminarian working towards his Mas-ter of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees is $34,925 per year. Graduate courses include Sacred Scripture, Moral and Systematic Theology, Homiletics and Sacraments. The graduate program equips seminarians with skills necessary to support parish life.

The following is from Bishop Senior

the Rector of St. Charles:

Dear friends in Christ,

Prominently, across

the top of the seal of the

Seminary is the word

Humilitas: the motto of our

patron, Saint Charles Bor-

romeo. At its core, humilitas,

or humility, is an attitude of

awareness of our absolute

reliance upon the goodness

of others ~ ultimately upon

the grace of God ~ for our gifts, our successes, our

very existence. Following the ideal of Jesus Christ,

the example of Pope Francis, and the legacy of our

patron, we strive to maintain and reflect that spirit of

humilitas in every aspect of Seminary life.

Allow me to share with you some of the ways in which

our Seminary is being transformed in grace today by

innovative programs, new partnerships, and a renewed

spirit of joy thanks to the recent visit of Pope Francis.!!

FROM MY HOUSE

TO YOURS

In the spring of 2014, an innovative partnership

was launched with Saint Joseph’s University (SJU). The

SJU Haub School of Business has developed a leadership

training program in the principles of Servant-Leadership,

for our seminarians in their third year of Theology. In the

spring of 2015, renovation of our theology buildings began

with new roofs on our student resident halls. As the new

academic year opened in August of 2015, we welcomed

seminarians from two additional religious congregations

who have selected Saint Charles as their Seminary. The

visit of Pope Francis to our Seminary in September has

been an incredible inspiration for all of us.

Our School of Theological Studies, under the lead-

ership of Father John Ames, has taken on renewed energy;

fidelity to the Magisterium and academic rigor have made

the Seminary’s STS a magnet for both lay and religious

students who want to challenge themselves to understand

more deeply their Catholic faith. The Seminary campus is

enriched also by the presence and pursuits of those pre-

paring for the permanent diaconate ~ men who feel called

to learn new ways of serving their communities and par-

ishes.

As Rector here at Saint Charles, in a spirit of

humilitas, I take immense joy in our mission of forming

servant-leaders after the heart of Jesus Christ for the

Church of today. As a member of the faithful of the Arch-

diocese of Philadelphia, you too share in this mission. Our

seminarians and students are preparing for the day when

they can serve the people of God in our parishes, schools

and charitable works. I welcome you to visit Saint Charles

~ bring your family and friends, and experience first-hand

the new momentum here.

Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is worthy of your sup-

port. I encourage you to renew your commitment today

with a financial gift. Our seminarians and students need

you ~ and our communities and parishes need them!

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior

Rector

At this time you should have received your

Seminary Appeal Letter and pledge card in the mail. You are more than willing to drop it off in the collection next weekend to be mailed back to St. Charles. On behalf of all you do, thank you so much for your support and generosity to this Appeal.

God Love Ya! Fr. Reilly

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

NOVEMBER 22

The Liturgical Calendar ends the Church Year with the Feast of Christ the King and begins the

year with the first Sunday of Advent. This year we have chosen the Feast of Christ the King to

have a special blessing for all those children who will be receiving the Sacraments of Penance and

Holy Eucharist for the first time

and the Sacrament of Confirmation for the only time.

The blessing will take place during the 11:30 a.m. Mass

and everyone present will be asked to pray for these children

Immediately after 11:30 a.m. Mass ,

we are having an end of the Church Year social in the School Hall.

We are looking for donations of “breakfast goodies” or cookies, brownies, etc.

We also will be offering both an Advent and Christmas service project for individuals and

families. For Advent, we are putting together, with felt and popsicle sticks, a little “Crib for Christ” as a re-

minder for us to do good works and give our gifts to Jesus during

Advent. For our Christmas project, we will be putting together candy canes using pipe

cleaners and beads, for our parish homebound. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DONATING TO THIS SOCIAL OR

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL MARYELLEN AT THE RECTORY.

• How do I relate to

and share God’s

Word?

• How do I remain

connected to Christ

and others?
