Problem statement
To avoid transmitting the excess power from solar, back to the grid when the load is less (especially during weekends) so as to reduce excess tariff.
Reverse power
The power developed by the solar panel is supplied to the load via power house where the EB meter is running
When the excess amount of power is generated , it is returned to the electric grid and the power is transferred.
Why Net metering is not used?Advantage of Net metering is that when the
reverse power is generated , the meter reading gets reversed for the return power supplied to the grid
But in TamilNadu , it is not yet implemented
Hence, the better way is to turn off the inverters.
What is the problem?
When the excess power gets reversed in the solar panel to the grid. EB meter reading gets accounted during this time. Since there is no net metering practice.
So the power supplied to the grid, from the solar is considered as it is drawn from the grid itself.
So tariff is increased.
Solution To avoid this and make it as a cost efficient,
inverter can be turned off when the excess power is generated and also net metering can be used.
