BIG WEEKEND

For over 50 years, Paul Hawken has dedicated his life to sustainability and changing the relationship between people and the environment. The face behind Project Drawdown – the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming – and author of seven other influential books, including ‘The Ecology of Commerce’, Hawken is a renowned thought leader on sustainability and climate change.

Drawdown is his latest publication, comprising of a collaboration between researchers, scientists and others to bring together 100 of the most substantive solutions to global warming. The best part is that many of the solutions already exist. Our work now is to accelerate the action and growth of what is possible fast!

“When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer is always the same: If you look at the science about what is happening on earth and aren’t pessimistic, you don’t understand data. But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren’t optimistic, you haven’t got a pulse.”

Can the global fashion industry adopt sustainable practices at a meaningful rate in the wake of our current climate crisis? Sustainability is a big buzzword in the business of fashion right now. But what does that really mean for a $2.4 trillion global industry that is often deemed to be one of the most wasteful and polluting on the planet?

Wardrobe Crisis author Clare Press leads a dynamic panel discussion on circularity, innovation and responsibility in the fashion industry, joined by Australian change-makers.

TESLA TINY HOUSE POWERED BY POWERWALL AT THE BIG WEEKEND 9 – 11 FEB FED SQUARE

This is the debate of all debates! The chance for us to create a sustainable world now rests precariously in our ability to reverse dangerous global warming. So is it now possible to restore climate conditions back to those safe for human civilisation?

This feature Festival event boldly sets out to make the seemingly impossible, possible. Exploring the vital role carbon ‘drawdown’ could play in helping reach a below zero emission world. What will Australia’s role look like in mounting this historic social, political and technical mobilisation to cool the planet fast?
