We should know that treating diseases with Chinese medicinalherbs is to make use of their cold or hot nature to correct thephenomena of overabundance of heat or cold in the body torestore them as much as possible to the normal state. Therefore ,on the base of syndrome differentiation , you mustdistinguish heat of cold nature of disease, and have a goodunderstanding of the cold or hot property of Chinese medicinal
herbs, and then selectivel apply corresponding medicinal herbsso that you can achieve the desired results. Such asGanjiang( Rhizoma Zingiberis) and Huanglian (RhizomaCoptidis) can both be used to treat diarrhea, but the former ishot in nature, therefore , used to treat diarrhea of cold typewhile the latter cold in nature is indicated for diarrhea of heattype. If you don’t consider their properties, cold or hot, whenyou apply medicinal herbs to treat heat or cold syndromesrespectively with hot or cold medicineal herbs , you cannotachieve desired results of treatment and even bring avoutharmful results.

lifting,lowering,floating and
sinking properties• Lifting, lowering, floating and sinking refer to four different
directions of actions of Chinese medicinal herbs in humanbody when they are taken.
• Varying diseases often appear to bear a tendency to moveupward , downward, towards the exterior or the interior. And forthe state of a disease, they are distinguished into those due toadverse ascending of pathogenic factors and those due to
invasion of pathogenic facors sinking deep;y into the interiorand lowering down to the lower energizer. While treating adisease, according to its different cause, a doctor should selectcorresponding medicinal herbs and make the best use of theirlifting, lowering, floating and sinking actions to help dispelpathogenic factors, correct the disorder of the body’s functions
and restore them to the normal.
