Short-term (2016) recommendation on Curriculum
In making recommendations to review the NSS Visual Arts curriculum and assessment, our major considerations are:
• The need to maintain the curriculum framework • Views of different stakeholders, including
• Teachers • Students • Tertiary institutions • One-committee on Visual Arts (SS) and Subject
Committee on Visual Arts (SS) • Employers
• Teachers’ and students’ workload • International benchmarking
• The NSS VA curriculum focuses on developing students’ abilities and is not a content-based curriculum.
• The curriculum provides flexibility for teachers and students to select learning &teaching materials to cater for learner diversity.
• The ‘Learning Objectives & Opportunities’ and ‘Broad Learning Outcomes’ in the Visual Arts Curriculum and Assessment Guide (S4-6) provide guidance to teachers on the selection of learning materials.
