Objectives and Preliminaries: For this first project I will need to create a sentence that describes me and make a model that reflects it. After forming a sentence I used a thesaurus to find definitions and synonyms After understanding my sentence I went on to find out what suitable materials I had andWhat techniques I could use to build the model.

Icebreaker Id.1 exploratory models

Before creating the ice breaker model I make some models to understand how to model with cardboard

> the score and bend method (left) proves useful for curvilinear shapes > flap and glue method (above) is a strong connection but unsightly

> Thought since the models were not to have bases that they would be handheld hence i didn't know how the model would sit on the table > Fulfilled program by having multiple points of intrest and unity > There is a craft issue as there is printing on front of cardboard which detracts from the model

>attempted to improve on first design>lengthed and visor portion to stretch it out> created front area of curvilinear shapes to look like swirling mass> pushed rods through farther in order to emphasize penetration

> the curvilinear front looks like a goalie mask > it is still symmetrical in one direction > the penetration of the rods still doesn't read

> analysed the major components of the first two models

> simplified the parts of the model and multiplied them> designed kit of parts and make carbon copies onto cardboard >tried for and ascending structure

>said to be more interesting than the second iteration >the front/bottom curved cardboard structure could be better articulated in my view

Proportions Exercise

> did not complete got fixated on the parts i would give proportions to as opposed to just exploring different proportions >the model below is too symmetrical the one above while more interesting is two dimensional from the top down

Space Matrix

>first created my own matrix used it to create some models (left)>then stuck to the directions and tried to explore the different generic possibilities while still making each one interesting (very time consuming but fun)

Study of Biomimetic Design Note: I broke from the program in order to satisfy the program as I could not find a design from the list which used biomimetic design beyond an aesthetic level

>used shape of boxfish to give the car a low drag coefficient

> the lit frames on exterior of building turn on automatically when night falls the building has photo sensors that detect sunlight which sends a signal to the lightsto turn on when its night and turn off in the morning

Objectives and Preliminaries: what is required for this exercise is to build an Inspiring site and create a model that directly responds to it surroundingsPlans/ Concerns: I will need to figure out what kind of terrain I will make which will decide what I will be responding to as well as how my site will be constructed. I am interested in an idea Jerry proposed that the site and structure could be frame expressions if it were apart of my concept

> attempted to create a cosy space hidden in a platou in a mountain side

>tried to differentiate the frame structures with different frame styles > turned into a devils postpile and didn't read as a site>site and structure are not unified

> attempted to make the "Devil's Post Pile" read more like a site by making the array denser 12 x 5 instead of 6 x 5>made a temporary structure that stands in place of a framed structure> the three distinct areas are oriented vertically in order to respond to the verticality of the site

Critique

> the structure IS NOT A FRAME, even though it its a stand in I should have drew on where the frame will be >the structure is more responsive to the site than site id.1

Objectives: to make a framed structure on the site that unlike the last one is

+ model was read as a dueling on the cliff face + the two tone of the structure of brown and pink was interesting + the frame of the structure was said to be interesting it the critique

- structure does not fully read as a frame-how would a person move around?
