The following business- es donated $320.00 which was the cost of the program: Dowell and Martin, Cox Funeral Home, Bank of Mt. Vemon, Citizens Bank, Young's Pharmacy, Western Auto, Say- lor Pharmacy. The reason more businesses were not asked was due to getting the exact amount from the above businesses. The fol- lowing people were paid to open the gyms. Livingston Elementary School decided to not take part when the program began. I would like to thank all the coaches and everyone for mak- ing the program a success. WilliamD. Riddle April 19, 1980 Editor. Mt. Vemon Signal Mt. Vernon. KyT* I recently read in an issue of the Mt. Vemon Signal of the failure of the Rockcastle County School Board to renew the coaching contracts of Mr. Riddle and Mr. Norris. As a former basketball, baseball and track team mem- ber under Mr. Riddle and a teammate of Mr. Norris, I feel I must voice an opinion concern- ing the obvious oversight of the school board. In today's times, everybody seems to put all the emphasis on winning at any cost. Though winning is the ultimate goal of every team, we seem to forget the role our teachers, leaders and yes, even coaches, play tar shaping the character of our young people. Mr. Riddle was interested In the molding of his players into responsible people. He al- ways set a good example for us to follow. He demanded the best from every player and usually got 100%. He was respected by everyone that ever put on a uniform for him. I feel that Mr. Riddle helped a great jieal in making me a better person and preparing me for today's life. His coaching ability and that of Mr. Norris cannot be questioned. The year Brodhead went to the state tournament, the comment was made on WHAS radio, by a respected college coach, that Brodhead had the best-coached, most dis- ciplined team at the tourna- ment. I have a young son and, win or lose, I would rather have him play for Mr. Riddle then any coach I know of.* It seems a sname that two men of character and ability that cannot be questioned, must suffer because a gym is not filled. Maybe the school board -and school officials are not doing their job by promoting and organizing home games. Whatever the case, young peo- ple need and desire leadership they can respect and believe in. They had that in Mr. Riddle and Mr. Norris. Paul Cox Legislative Report DE MARCUS REPORTS By: Rep. W. Harold DeMarcus Kentucky's 1980 General Assembly has now adjourned it's regular session. 1,396 bills were introduced and 391 bills or 28 percent were passed by both the House and Senate and de- livered to the governor. The General Assembly has made many mistakes during their sixty legislative days. As a result, in many ways, the needs of the people have not been served. On a more positive note, the legislature did make some strides in the area of senior citizens: ~ Under Senate Bill 39, the General Assembly appropriated $100,000 for the creation of a statewide senior citizen dis- count program. The program will consist of voluntary partic- ipating businesses with the staft coordinating the effort so that everyone will be aware of how and where the discounts will be available. Another measure, House ' «bill 105 will prohibit insurance companies from cancelling automobile insurance policies solely on the basis of age. This bill should eliminate a portion of unjustified discrimination. The General Assembly en- acted House Bill 408 which will abolish the three-day waiting period and blood-testing re- quirements for persons over 60 wishing to marry. Also, House Bill 436 •d'ill allow retired teachers to teach part-time or substitute for a maximum of 100 days and still be able to draw all their retire- ment benefits. I recently read in an issue of the Mt. Vemon Signal of the failure of the Rockcastle County School Board to renew the coaching contracts of Mr. Riddle and Mr. Norris.

As a former basketball, baseball and track team mem-ber under Mr. Riddle and a teammate of Mr. Norris, I feel I must voice an opinion concern-ing the obvious oversight of the school board.

In today's times, everybody seems to put all the emphasis on winning at any cost. Though winning is the ultimate goal of every team, we seem to forget the role our teachers, leaders and yes, even coaches, p l a y tar shaping the character of our young people.

Mr. Riddle was interested In the molding of his players into responsible people. He al-ways set a good example for us to follow. He demanded the best from every player and usually got 100%. He was respected by everyone that ever put on a uniform for him. I feel that Mr. Riddle helped a great jieal in making me a better person and preparing me for today's life.

His coaching ability and that of Mr. Norris cannot be questioned. The year Brodhead went to the state tournament, the comment was made on WHAS radio, by a respected college coach, that Brodhead had the best-coached, most dis-ciplined team at the tourna-ment.

I have a young son and, win or lose, I would rather have him play for Mr. Riddle then any coach I know of.*

It seems a sname that two men of character and ability that cannot be questioned, must suffer because a gym is not filled. Maybe the school board

-and school officials are not doing their job by promoting and organizing home games. Whatever the case, young peo-ple need and desire leadership they can respect and believe in. They had that in Mr. Riddle and Mr. Norris.

Kentucky's 1980 General Assembly has now adjourned it's regular session. 1,396 bills were introduced and 391 bills or 28 percent were passed by both the House and Senate and de-livered to the governor.

The General Assembly has made many mistakes during their sixty legislative days. As a result, in many ways, the needs of the people have not been served.

On a more positive note, the legislature did make some strides in the area of senior citizens: ~

Under Senate Bill 39, the General Assembly appropriated $100,000 for the creation of a statewide senior citizen dis-count program. The program will consist of voluntary partic-ipating businesses with the staft coordinating the effort so that everyone will be aware of how and where the discounts will be available.

Another measure, House ' «bill 105 will prohibit insurance

companies from cancelling automobile insurance policies solely on the basis of age. This bill should eliminate a portion of unjustified discrimination.

The General Assembly en-acted House Bill 408 which will abolish the three-day waiting period and blood-testing re-quirements for persons over 60 wishing to marry.

Also, House Bill 436 •d'ill allow retired teachers to teach part-time or substitute for a maximum of 100 days and still be able to draw all their retire-ment benefits.
