What a Hassle Those Computers Can Be! When we were
kids, somehow we learned just fine with paper and pencils.
Back then, somehow our parents had successful careers, us-
ing only graph paper, slide rules, and maybe an adding machine.
But now, all of us use not only an email account, but also a
smartphone, a desktop, maybe a laptop and a tablet too.
All of this IT has not only a monetary cost but also a time
cost and many risks. Sure, that new software will eventually in-
crease your employees’ productivity, but not without first consuming hours upon hours of
time as they learn to use it. Sure, those new computers will immediately increase your
speed, but is the firewall connecting them to the internet configured for optimal security?
Are you confident you haven’t accidentally left a “criminals welcome here” sign hanging in
cyberspace outside your network’s back door?
Managing Information Technology can be a complete hassle, driving up your
expenses and weighing down your productivity. But our clients instead use their
IT as a leverage— to increase profits, increase productivity and decrease stress.

“Make Your Space Beautiful” is one of the
mantras of the Lighthouse Supply team. But
it’s not just about beauty—their solutions are
also practical. Some lights literally pay for
themselves by reducing your electricity bill
more than what you pay to buy the bulbs.

nesses in our region for over 20 years, and
they’ve recently expanded to serve homeowners
too. Check out shop.lighthousesupply.com for

Cybersecurity Book Coming SOON!
Alison Meredith and 14 other authors have been researching, writing, and collabo-rating for months. Now we’re just “waiting on the press.” Details Inside!
Inside: TWO Shiny New Gadget Reviews
One we like, one we don’t.
The problems they claim to solve:
• Using your GPS while still keeping your
eyes on the road
• Protecting your valuables while you take
a dip in the pool
One seems to work—the other, not so much.
To find out which is which, see inside!
FlexSafe: Protect Your Valuables
Revolutionizing Your Dashboard? When it comes to driving, the forces that aim to keep us safe seem to be in constant battle with convenience.
We’re supposed to keep our eyes glued to the road while trying to navigate through Google Maps —without missing a single turn. It’s a dangerous combination. With their new VIZR tool, FIXD Automotive hopes to change this. Here’s how it works: Select the features you like, connect VIZR to your phone, and place it on your dash-board. It then creates a transparent display. This way, FIXD says, you can seamlessly navigate without ever glancing at your phone and putting your life in jeopardy. Though VIZR is a great idea, the reviews indicate it might not be all it’s cracked up to be. Our advice? Wait until all the bugs are sorted out. For now, just keep your eyes on the road the old-fashioned way.

Insider Tips to Help Your Business Run Faster, Easier, and More Profitably
June 2019
Microsoft keeps rolling out new
apps and features. Most of us ig-
nore them. Email works, we’re
used to email, let’s just keep doing
that. Right?
Well, sure. Nothing wrong with
that . . . except that you might be
missing some tools which can
greatly enhance your productivity.
Start with Teams. If you have
a Microsoft 365 subscription (and,
if we provide your email, you do),
you have Teams. You just need to
start using it. Why? Here are
three quick reasons you’ll love it:
1. Teams is a HIPAA compliant
way to chat. We know you are
texting secure information to each
other, with whatever free texting
app came with your phone, which
is NOT secure. Stop doing that.
Replace your insecure texting
with secure Teams chatting. You
can chat one-on-one or as a group.
This dramatically frees up your
time and brainspace, to know that
you can safely send secure infor-
mation . . . without figuring out
how to write in code to each other.
(We know you’re doing that too.
“Patient in Room 2,” “Account we
discussed at coffee,” and all that
mess cluttering up your texting).
Just stop all that and start using
Teams for secure messaging. We
here at Holston IT have been using
the Teams app for months now
and we’re very happy with it.
2. Use Teams for video calling.
Yes, you heard that right: you can
make phone calls within Teams.
When you use your smartphone
(as opposed to calling from your
computer), you can even switch
the camera direction. Say to your
colleague on the other end of the
line, “This is what I am seeing”
and point to it with your
smartphone camera. In many sit-
uations, this is more practical than
displaying your own mugshot.
3. Attach documents and
files to your chat. Teams
combines the best of texting
and emailing. Easily attach
the file everyone needs to
consider within the conver-
sation about that file.
We’re here to help! Just ask!

YOU Are the #1 Target: Why
Your Business is More Likely to
be the Victim of Cybercrime
Now than Ever Before, and What
You Can Do to Stop It
Alison Meredith is an author of
this book, which will be published
soon. Here’s her story:
“Last summer, at a networking
event with IT experts, a few of us
started a conversation which quick-
ly evolved into a lament. Few
small business owners know that
they are the primary target of
cyberattacks. Even fewer know
how to protect themselves.”
“We decided to do something
about this! We’ve teamed up to
write a book full of information and
practical tips. We’re giving all pro-
ceeds from the sale of the book to
St. Jude’s.” Watch your inbox
for news of how you can get a copy.
