If you haven’t been to the website to check out
the calendar of events lately, please do so. It
shows the magnitude of the commitments that
our club has in just this month!
Starting July 3rd we have the Reynoldsburg
Fireworks, where the food trailer will be set
up, circus tickets will be sold, friends pins will
be sold and membership info will be distributed
to all interested people, and games for the kids.
We need people there from about 5:00pm on. July 4th will be the parade, where we are
needed around 8:15am to marshal the parade,
followed by walking the parade and handing out
circus fliers.
July 11th we will have a booth at the Jazz & Rib
Fest in Reynoldsburg, soliciting members and
getting the word out about the club, from
about 6-9pm.

PCC Dave Risen is this
months’s spotlight Lion.
If it has to do with Lions,
Dave’s done it, on the
club, district and state
level. He’s had many
accolades, and has
earned every one of
them. In service, in
financial support, in
advice, in loyalty to his
club and his community.
We thank Lion Dave for
everything he has done!

Thanks to the efforts of Lion
Mike Slonaker, who pulled the
event together for us; and
Lions Neal Bennett, Norm
Brusk, Bob Theisen, Bob
Marburger, and Mike S for
doing the job of running
games at the Special Olympics
Tent Town; we had a good
showing representing our club. Definite recognition and
thanks needs to also be

July 19th will be the golf outing, and we need a
LOT of help with that—not only at the event,
but now, getting hole sponsors and raffle prizes,
and teams to play!
Finally, we have the Carsons and Barnes Circus
coming on the 28th and 29th, two shows each
day. We need people in the office and especially
out parking cars from about 2:30—7:30pm
both days. We need about 12 people each day.
This is also another event where we need
people out now, selling circus sponsorships.
We would also welcome any donations to
either the golf outing or circus from any
members who wished to contribute to the
cause.
The Reynoldsburg Lions members have always
managed to come through when they are
needed. Right now they are needed more than
ever. Please help YOUR club in any possible
manner you can, and thanks for your support.

assistance!
This is an important event for
us to be a part of, on several
levels. Now that we know
what we’re doing, perhaps
next year will be even better!
Special Notes:
DUES notice! If you have
not paid your dues yet,
please contact Lion

The Reynoldsburg Lions have two
major events coming up in July, and
need sponsors for both!
The golf outing on 7/19 is seeking hole
sponsors at $50/hole.
The circus on 7/28-29 is looking for
sponsors, ranging from $50 to $2000.
On either one, sponsors can be
corporate or individuals.
We encourage Lions to take out sponsor forms from both events and hit
anyone and everyone who they see:
doctors, employers, friends, neighbors,
stores frequented, other organizations,
etc. Forms are available at meetings in
hard copy form, or available from Mike
Kerek in pdf form via email.
Of course, Lions are also welcome to
support and sponsor either or both
events themselves, and a couple are
doing that already.
Sponsorships are where the money is
made, and we need them to help make
up for revenue lost through events no
longer happening. We need all
members, active and otherwise, to
make this a priority and hit the
pavement! (REPRINT!)
SPONSORS!
The Reynoldsburg Lions have an
opportunity to join forces with The
Simple Church in a winter event that
could become a great time annually for
the community!
Based on the hit show, “America’s Got
Talent,” and with a template that the
Westerville Lions have successfully
incorporated for their version of the
show, we are looking to create our own unique show. Representatives of
The Simple Church have agreed to
supply sound system and back-stage
knowhow, and between the two
organizations, we have enough contacts
within the schools to get a great
response.
This event would fill a large void in our
calendar, provide a great opportunity
for people of all ages to shine, and get
good exposure within the community,
while also making it a fundraiser for
both groups. It’s a win-win on all levels!
The board will be considering this
proposal at the July Board Meeting,
being held the Slonaker home on the
23rd.
Club Pres ident Nea l Bennett
continue to make this the best and
most active club around.
My goals this year are pretty simple,
though are critical for the long-term
success of the club:
We have to increase membership with
new, active, preferably younger
members who aren’t afraid to jump in
and help where they can. It was
wonderful to see Jessica, Darwin, and
Lee out as much as they were; Mike
Coy managed to get to turkey shoots
when he could; and I know Tony will be
great. But we need more.
We need to think outside the box
more often, looking to projects that can
replace ones we’ve lost. The circus will
(hopefully) cover the lost income from
the Civil War reenactment, but that’s
one event. We need some new,
innovative ideas, and open minds from
the club members.
Finally, we need to focus on what our strengths and weaknesses are, using
surveys from the club members and
community to determine how we can
change for the better. From stagnation
comes death. We have 66 years in—we
need to change to have another 66!
On August 15-16, we will be participat-
ing in the Tomato Festival. We have
three stations that we need to man: the
trailer, which will take at least 6 people
at all times both days (it would be
more, but we are not allowed to sell
sno cones at the event due to an out-
side vendor exclusivity agreement; the
friends and membership station, which
will take 2-3 to make it work; and the vision screening in the building, which
will take another 2-3 members who are
trained to use the SPOT machine.
Any help, any time, anyone can give to
the Reynoldsburg Lions would be ap-
preciated.

VP; Lynette Linville, Secretary; Dave Risen, Treasurer; Mike Slonaker, Membership Chair; Norm Brusk, Tail Twister; Bob Marburger, Lion
Tamer; Bob Theisen, Paul Glowa, Leonard Burkhart, and Lee Pelphrey, Directors. Non-voting board members appointed: Jessica Pelphrey,
Communications Liaison; Mike Kerek, Operations.
“Out of the frying pan, into the fire!”
Those were the thoughts that went
through my head as I looked over the
calendar of events for the next two
months on the 1st. 7 events, 4 of them
major events with a lot of prep work to
do in addition to the numerous people
needed to man the stations.
Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of so
many of our members, things seem to
be under control.
I’m looking forward to being the
president of the Reynoldsburg Lions
this year, but like any new position, I
come in with great enthusiasm and the
understanding that I will have to learn
on the job. I ask at this time for the
club’s support and help, just as the
members were there for PCC Dave, to
