Nativity of Our Lord & St. John Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time This week our first reading is from the Book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a prophet who lived during the Babilonian Exile, although he was not hauled off into Babylon, he remained in Jerusalem until he was taken forcibly into Egypt. These were difficult and turbulent times and under the Kinship of Josiah things were going relatively good. But then King Josiah died, and during the reign of King Jehoiachin, the old practices of idolatry returned amongst the leaders. It was during this time that the army from the King of Babylon would enforce his dominance and take King Jehoiachin off to Babylon. This background provides some valuable understanding of our first reading, about those who were to be shepherding the people. It also gives an explanation of why the people were exiled and Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed in 587 B.C. In our Gospel, Jesus once again presents himself as the Good Shepherd. If we remember from last week, the dis-ciples were sent out in pairs and many people were healed. A Bible Commentary notices how the apostles remained under the Lord's authority. But what the lection-ary has chosen to skip over, is King Herod’s curiosity about Jesus and Herod’s beheading of John the Baptist. In today’s reading the apostles have returned and are gathered together reporting to Jesus all of what had hap-pened. But even as Jesus tries to bring them away to a deserted place the crowds somehow follow them. Curi-ously, they somehow knew where they could find Jesus and the apostles. It is also notable that at this particular instance, is where Jesus usually provides some type of healing. However, Jesus instead began to teach them many things. He had seen how the crowds were like sheep without a shepherd. But this instruction is also a form of healing; when it is taken that this is God who is teaching the crowds about heaven. It is like a healing ointment upon the hearts and minds of those who were gathered around Jesus listening to him. Of course this compassionate response of Jesus is available to everyone and anyone who desires to seek out where he is and lis-ten to his teachings. And for all of us, may we all pray that many more people may seek out his pastures, especially by what they see through all of his modern day disciples. Fr. Chris

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Holy Sac-rament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I em-brace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

For a full job description, please contact the Parish Office at 715-499-1993. Resume and cover letter may be sent to [email protected] or mailed to: Nativity of Our Lord

Live Your Faith And Join Our Team! Did you know that Nativity of Our Lord thrift stores have been in operation in our community for over 52 years? Through the many years of working with community members, the ACES Program (ASSOCIATION OF CHURCHES FOR EMERGENCY SUP-PORT) and our great volunteers, this ministry has helped thou-sands of people in need. Our volunteers find the work of sorting through donated items, pricing, stocking shelves and helping customers a rewarding experience. Many who give of their time often mention that they enjoy working for a great cause and the companionship of working with each other. To keep our ministry going we need your time and talent. It’s easy and very rewarding as your efforts not only help those in need but also help our Church and School. Come on out and give it a try. All our volunteers can work flexi-ble days and hours. So if you have any time to give on a Mon-day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday (Brown Street Site) or on Mon-day, Wednesday, Saturday (Pine Lake Site) come join the Team! If you are interested, contact Dorita Dolezal at 715-605-2369 for further information. Thank you.

How to foster your faith in the summer! Summer, a time filled with adventure, busyness, vaca-tions, and sun. Our schedules or routines lack the struc-ture of the year. For some we lose contact with those who have supported us to continue to grow all year long, for some we are so busy we just forget about our faith when the lake is calling. For me, it is a time to become closer to God and kick start my personal faith goals but where do we start? Here are a few simple things you can do during this time so you will continue to wake up hungry to see God moving in your life! Set a weekly date for you and God that is NON-NEGOTIABLE-It can be as little as 5 or 10 minutes or as long as you want. Set the time and don't break it. Formed.org has many programs commit to watch 1 a week. Plan an adventure with friends and while you are together talk about your walk with God. The ups and downs of your faith and the dryness of summer! Make a commitment for your walk with Jesus and at the end of the summer you can look back and say... This sum-mer I committed myself to Jesus by ..... you fill in the blanks...
