Excerpted from the IDC competitive analysis IDC MarketScape: Worldwide IT Education and Training 2009 Vendor Analysis (document #216380), February 2009.
IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to pro-vide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantita-tive criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market, and business execu-tion in the short-term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the circles. Vendor year-over-year growth rate relative to the given market is indicated by a plus, neutral, or minus next to the vendor name.

With nearly 75,000 Red Hat certified professionals spanning 162 countries, Red Hat certifications are among the most highly regarded in the IT industry. That is because Red Hat's perfor-mance-based testing requires more than simple memorization. It requires the ability to perform the tasks required in actual IT en-vironments. Because of this method of testing, our certifications continue to be in high demand by employers and IT professionals.
Red Hat offers a full hierarchy of credentials to provide a compre-hensive and flexible program required by the most competitive enterprise IT organization. Determining the right certification(s) depends on Linux experience, job requirements, and/or career aspirations. Red Hat offers a number of tools to help decide. Exam prep guides and pre-assessment test help assess skillset and readiness to take a certification exam. In addition, in this catalog we outlined the appropriate training courses to help an IT professional prepare for desired certification.

Red Hat Certificates of Expertise are earned by RHCEs who have passed performance-based exams in more specialized areas of system administration. These include:
RED HAT CERTIFICATES OF EXPERTISE™
• Advanced networking services security
• Deployment and systems management
• Directory services and authentication
• SELinux policy administration
• Clustering and storage management
• System monitoring and performance tuning
RHCEs earn more advanced certifications by passing spe-cific Expertise Exams associated with those certifications. Because one need not have an RHCE to take the Red Hat Certified Virtualization Administrator (RHCVA) exam, it is not considered a Red Hat Certificate of Expertise. However, RHCEs who earn this credential may apply it to some upper-level certifications (as described on page 15).
