RHODE ISLAND AVENUE NE

ANNUAL REPORT 2015
A Letter from Kyle ToddExecutive Director, Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street
In our first full year as a designated Main Street, this has been a truly remarkable (and busy) year. Fall Fest 2014 was our biggest and best – so far – and our partnership with Cultural Tourism DC brought even more music to the community in the form of Porch Fest. And for the first time in decades, Santa Claus arrived on the Avenue to help bring
in the season with a holiday tree lighting at Rhode Island Row.
We have welcomed 12 new businesses to Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street, and more are on the way. Our façade improvement program has already invested over $85,000 in locally owned small businesses, and we’ll spend more than double that amount by the end of this year. As the Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street family has grown in size with all of the new businesses, we’ve provided all of the corridor’s small businesses with access to training and business support programs to grow and expand with the ever-changing DC market.
On top of all of this, the hard-working Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street Clean Team is keeping trash and recycling picked up and ensuring the tree boxes are free from weeds. Best of all, despite this winter’s bitter cold temperatures, snow didn’t stand a chance against the Clean Team. Every day they make our community a little better, so please be sure to let them know how much you appreciate their work.
But most of all, thank you for rolling up your sleeves as volunteers. Thank you for showing up and supporting locally-owned small businesses. Thank you for letting me know, every day, that we’re on the right track. And thank you for believing in Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street.

A Letter from Danielle M. HenryChair, Board of Directors, Rhode Island Avenue NE Main Street
It’s been a great first year! The organization got off to a fast start after we were awarded the Main Street designation from the city. We wasted no time setting up our offices andgetting the Clean Team out on the streets, and helping existing businesses get some necessary work done on their facades. We’ve also been working hard with area businesses on ways we can help them thrive in our community.
I’m sure you also came to celebrate Fall Fest and enjoyed the electric musical offerings of Porch Fest. We can’t wait to expand our Fall Fest celebration in the coming years to celebrate all the reasons we have to be proud of Rhode Island Avenue.
Exciting new businesses. Cleaner streets. Gorgeous new facades and signs on existing businesses. It’s an honor to be a part of all of this, but the fact remains that we couldn’t do it without the support of this amazing community and our dedicated volunteers. Thank you for your financial support, your sweat equity, and all of your hard work on behalf of the Avenue. I look forward to celebrating many more successes with you.
