  • RIB iTWO 5D End-to-End Enterprise Solution for Construction Planning and Execution

  • 2Discover planning and construction at a new level: RIB iTWO 5D End-to-End Approach

n With iTWO, RIB takes its place at the head of a global

trend towards using an integrated model-based work

method in the field of construction. The model-based

development and production process is already the basis for

innovation and a competitive edge in many sectors with

regard to time-to-market, costs, design and quality.

For the construction and process industry too, virtual

construction management is the key to being able to

manage high pressure scheduling and cost confines

    effectively.1

The planning and construction process using RIB iTWO with

BIM 5D standard gives you faster, more accurate informati-

on about the project status and further project progress than

conventional work methods. 1 Nearly three-quarters (74%) of BIM users in Western Europe have rated the ROI

(from BIM) positively. Source: Mc Graw Hill Construction Smart Market Report:

The Business Value of BIM in Europe, 2010.

The basis for this is the systematic integration of all

information from all the various CAD and specialist

applications into the 5D model and its continuous

    visualisation.

As the project progresses, the geometric data is

complemented with updated information. This includes

quantities and equipment, costs and revenue as well as

procedures with equipment, materials and personnel

deployment. The quality and consistency of the

information throughout all project phases improves the

coordination among all the involved parties and is the

basis for planning, calculation, work preparation,

logistics and additional processes. The clearly illustra-

ted numbers, work procedures, and correlations are

interpreted much more easily and with greater certainty.

  • 4Draft, planning, CAD model integration

Complete control, right from the very start

n Control the costs right where it is best for you: in

project development and planning. With the graphic

sample and equipment, the model-based quantity

calculation and collision testing, you have powerful

tools to sustainably improve planning and project

quality and to realise significant savings in time and

    money.

    Conflict-free planning

n The CAD integration into the BIM 5D model makes

coordination and communication among all project

participants easier on the basis of a joint model. Less

data loss and consistent data enhancement lower the

customary project risks in terms of quantities or

feasibility. The construction process is safer and the

pre-planning phase can be significantly optimised.

Collision test: the integration of planning-related and specialised data brings potential collisions and problems with construction progress to light.

Integration and qualification of the CAD data in an iTWO project model: sample with cross-section view in the 3D viewer.

    Your benefits:

Better planning quality and certainty in

terms of quantities and costs, for less

    investment

    Fewer plan revisions and supplements

    Sustainable optimisation due to plan

    variations and simulation

    Faster decision-making processes

    Improved coordination and networking

    Using certified interfaces, iTWO combines

all available CAD data into one consistent

    model

  • 5Specifications, estimating, awarding

Complete, clear and always up to date

n When it comes to describing, testing or analysing

planning and construction-related services, the superior-

ity of the BIM 5D platform is evident: because a geomet-

ric model, quantities, specifications and schedules are

communicated and updated transparently at every

planning and contract stage instead of being repeat-

    edly transmitted.

    Quantities as the key element

n Quantities are the key element as a basis for

services and costs: The construction-related informa-

tion from the CAD data is transferred to a comprehen-

sive quantitative framework, which is used by staff from

planning through billing and beyond by the manage-

    ment.

    Your benefits:

    Optimised risk management for

    contract awarding and offer

    processing

    Reduced need for supplements

Improved offer quality as a valid

    competitive factor

    Systematically reduced quantity risk

for planning, calculation or bill of

    quantities

    Reduced process costs through BIM

    workflow for calculation, work

    preparation, acquisition, etc.

    Simpler and more transparent

    documentation of contract and

    awarding documents

Above: A comprehensive quantity model visually assessable lowers quantity-related risks in planning, tender specifications, calculations and controlling. Right: Tender documents in a new quality: Contract packages include all the necessary information in terms of the service to be provided and price determination. Illustrative, visually assessable, plausible and paperless.

  • 6Construction process and logistics

    Increased efficiency through lean production

n If the relevant model data is put onto a timeline, the

construction progress, procedures, costs and quantities

can be simulated and visualised for a period of days,

weeks or months. A detailed simulation enables a

significant increase in efficiency without sacrificing

quality, because waiting or idle periods due to insuf-

ficient collaboration or delivery delays are reduced.

Problems in the construction process with the coordina-

tion of crews and suppliers are recognised in advance

    and eliminated.

    Planning just in time

n iTWO has a procedure model that you can freely

define or create and enhance based on BoQ or

calculations. Using the iTWO internal calendar or in

PowerProject, Primavera or MS Project, a procedure

and schedule can be created for the construction site.

Alternatively, you can import entire complex

external schedules into the RIB iTWO procedural

    model.

    Your benefits:

    Increased efficiency in construction

    Minimal disruptions to construction

    process

    Targeted advance control of changes

    in the construction process

Just in time production and logistics

    with the involvement of ERP/PP

    Model-based control of machines and

    production systems

Above: A simulation of the construction progress on a timeline with schedule and cost overviews graphically illustrates the continuing project progress.

Right: Overview of production control, e.g. as machinery control for road construction or the production of components based on the geometric model.

  • 7Transparent preview of excess quantities and shortages.

    Cost control, monitoring

100 % transparency at all times

n The model representation in the BIM 5D model

provides continuous monitoring in terms of technical

and commercial issues with work performance,

forecasting or the simulation of excess quantities and

shortages and of analyses based on construction

material qualities (steel, masonry, concrete, etc.).

With the model-based simulation, you can monitor

and "adjust" target values in the very early project

    stages.

Hand in hand: Technical and commercial

    budget monitoring

n The monitoring process with RIB iTWO transparently

combines the technical project perspective and the

commercial, business-related perspective. In this way,

you can break down the commercial perspective at the

management level all the way down to the detailed

technical resources. And conversely, the technical

resources or structures can be applied to the commer-

cial view of the acquisition or billing department.

    Your benefits:

    Transparent evaluation and projection

    possibilities with various levels of

    detail (drill down)

    Continuous testing and optimisation of

    project objectives based on the

    simulation

Deriving key values from the BIM 5D

    simulations for future planning

    processes

    Continuous graphic feasibility testing

in terms of quantities and performance

    with the model

Model-based performance status of the concrete work.
