Why United Way?

• Rice supports Houston because Houston supports Rice. (V2C commitment to positively engage our community)

• It is the most efficient way to make our community better for all:

• United Way researches our community’s most pressing needs

• Finds and funds programs that address those needs

• Trains volunteers to monitor those programs for best ROI

• BBB says 35 percent is a reasonable fund-raising “overhead;” United Way of Greater Houston’s overhead is just 12 percent.

• The remaining 88 percent goes to local United Way agencies that must use all of it for their programs, not for their own “overhead.”

• The 12 percent also funds the 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE: connects ~1 million Texans to needed United Way services annually.
