honours at the recent
SA State Dressage
Championships
The Team consisting of Ann Dodd and Weltmaya, Nat Goldsworthy and
Duart Rise Bradman and Kristine Hancock and Kinnordy Respighi banded together and
brought the accolades home to the South East. On Ya Girls
Ann and Weltmaya went on to win not only the new category of Amateur
Owner Rider Preliminary Champion but also Preliminary Champion and best
performed Warmblood.
Amity Hancock riding Uhavta Imposter also flew the South East Flag and brought
home several placings and wins in the Young Rider Classes and Pony Prelim and
Novice Classes
Full results can be seen on www.equiscore.com.au
Our club contributed to admin support for the champs by producing and printing the
thank you cards for judges, pencillers, commentators and administration staff.
Susan Thornley officiated as a judge and spent a great weekend sharing thoughts and
much discussion about judging and training and fun with interstate counterparts.
The weather was a trial for everyone as it rained fairly consistently across the three
days of competition.
Hats off for the State Dressage Committee for pulling off a very successful weekend
under difficult conditions.
Arenas looked resplendent at the beginning of three days and where a credit to the
Mount Crawford Dressage Club as they were just as good at the end of the three days
despite the weather. I don’t know of another ground that would have held up so well
to the rigorous activity. I believe they held up better than at Werribee.

April Training Weekend
Weather forecast……….Gale force winds, rain and cold. Mmmmmm was this
such a good idea! No matter all is set in place, need to march on.
First morning the sun was shining, beautiful weather, what was the worry?
And so it began with the usual enthusiasm, good instructors, lots of laughs
and fantastic food. When the shower of rain came it was compensated by
chocolate cake, orange cake, apple slice, beef Stew and chicken rice curry and
so much of it. Thank you Colleen and Amanda. A patio heater and great
atmosphere to sit and chat, provided great catch up time. Thank you
Then off to the Flicks
Fantastic night, best ever way to fund raise having a super night at the
pictures. Lots of popcorn, even heard someone buy a packet of Jaffas.
The audience was 95% horse riders so there was a big reaction when the
female star having her first ride on a horse applying the wrong aids resulted
in the horse doing non stop rein back. The knowing audience again laughed
out loud when she bounded off in canter showing lots of air time in each
canter stride. There were lots of ooos and arrrrs when the bull rider was
bucked off and when he took his shirt off!!
After the debriefing in the foyer young ones went Clubbing (whoops I mean
Pubbing) and the oldies travelled home with lots of chitter chatter.
Cant wait for the next Flicks night. Club raising over $200 just enjoying
themselves.

Why do some riders look so good
in the saddle ?………………..
We all hear about a riders having and needing an
independent seat.
How do we develop an independent seat? Good
Balance is the key. Independent of the horse we need
to be able to balance ourselves. Have you ever piggy
backed anyone, yep, and they wriggle around on your
back. Whoow you have to work so hard to stay up and
balance them and yourself. Now put your horse in
that position. Do you keep good balance? The key
ingredient for that is good core strength.
How do we achieve that? Some people do yoga.
Others can do Pilates. Charlotte Dujardin is a great
role model, her core strength is so good, but she
works hard at it. On a fit ball she can do up to one
hundred squats. Can you do one hundred correct
squats on the ground, let alone on a fit ball!!!
Pilates creates more body awareness , regular
breathing, respite from back pain and improved
posture
Good balance is the key to helping the partnership
between horse and rider develop harmony and is the
key ingredient to the outcome of your collective marks
at the bottom of your dressage test.
Upon reflection I am not sure the halt at X shown in
the diagram to the right will get you more marks
The winning edge is core strength
mmmmmm in both horse and rider
Winter Series Teams Rules
Teams shall consist of 4 combinations.
3 of 4 combinations must compete at each Winter Series.
Each team member must compete at a minimum of 3 Winter Series events.
Team members can be from any levels, league, or age group.
Each competition day only the 3 best percentages will count towards the title of
“THE BEST TEAM OF THE SERIES”
So get together with any club members and sort your teams. This is a fun way for
more members to get to know each other. Ask committee members if you need help,
they are there to help you and are very enthusiastic to help you find a team.
There will be a prize for the most innovative Team Name which will be judged by an
independent judge outside the sport.
Thinking caps on……….the funnier the more likely to win a special prize

Committee Chatter
At the committee’s last meeting, there was a member request to include Tiny Tot Led Dressage Classes. To date there has
been many phone calls to our affiliated bodies EA and HRCAV and insurance companies to see how we can allow these
additions to our program. As soon as we have clear directions from all bodies concerned we can then know what direction we
can take. Fingers crossed a good outcome can be achieved as the club has many young mums with kiddies who may like to be
included in activities.
Uniform info for new members
There has been some enquiries re the HRCAV winter official uniform. A smart navy knit jumper worn over the blue and white
stripe shirt is a smart and time honoured item which can be purchased easily as many schools have it as part of their uniform.
The club has a supply of the orange and navy striped tie. Just ask our helpful secretary
for assistance!
Below are some pics of the official uniform for both summer and winter.
Shirt and waistcoat - either with stock or tie
Ties are available from the
Secretary
Navy woollen jumper with tie & shirt
As per the HRCAV rules, the MSEDC uniform for our members is
as seen above. Logo badges are available from the secretary. If
you are unsure of anything, please ask. All apparel to be worn
with white or very pale champagne jods/breeches and regula-
tion boots. Navy or white gloves to be worn with navy or white
saddle cloth with HRCAV logo. Stocks must be predominantly
navy and/or white, with only a small splash of orange. Orange
must not be the dominant colour. You can also wear a tie.
We hope you like our choices and we are happy to help you
source these items at any time. We have the logo set up with
our preferred embroiderer, so please contact us if you are
needing embroidery.
The first team name to hit the entry desk is a cracker,
“Two Red Herrings on Boord” (I wonder who they are!!!!!)
Hurry and join in the fun, get your team’s name entered, remember there is a decent “team name” prize…………..
Kim Zohs sends a big smiley hello from up North. She has found her new club (Southern Flinders ) very interactive with happy
people also another club at Port Pirie who are very active in all disciplines. Maybe a visit during one of the winter series
weekends might be on the cards………..
Gossip from outside the arena
Welcome to new and returning members
Andrea Riedel—Carrison returning member, great to see you embracing HRCAV too, look forward to seeing you out and about
during the coming months
Welcome to the fold Abigail Goodman, we hope you enjoy all the activities that the club offers.
Colleen Smith’s Team
..are very sad after a very successful April training weekend their lovely new horse, Sam, did himself a
nasty injury, but with Colleen and Mel's dedicated nursing our fingers are crossed for a full recovery in
some months. All our thoughts are with you.
Margie Stuart has been off camping, Yes that’s right CAMPING for more than a week too. Well done Margie we are all very
impressed.
Michelle Dupree has been busy entertaining many horses and riders and harness combinations on the annual MAY RIDE. After
7 days of riding and driving and camp fires, I expect a warm bed and rest would be welcome.
Tara Batt and Georgia Robbie have been very consistently successful on the eventing scene. Well done girls proving that the
dressage score is all important.
Kristy Boord and Kristy Debruin have been level assessed for HRCAV dressage. Well done girls, look forward to watching you
enjoy the new tests.
Amanda Lock is riding the high level tests for the Naracoorte Horse Trials Committee (so the judges can get their eye in for
judging the field) as a fundraiser for the MSEDC. Thank you Amanda, holding up the flag for the dressage fraternity in the South
East. Not an easy task to be warming up at 8.00am and hang around all day just to help out.
