W E L C O M E F R O M T H E   C L A S S I C S F O U N D E RWelcome to our third Noosa Classic! Like you, we are very excited about showcasing this truly amazing region. The Noosa Hinterland is one we have long-admired here at Bicycling Australia. Organisers are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our funding partners Tourism & Events Queensland and Tourism Noosa. It’s encouraging to see regional areas such as Noosa receiving solid support from the state government.

I also thank the Mayor of Noosa, Clare Stewart, and Noosa Tourism’s Melanie Anderson who have continued to back us. The amazing team at Noosa Council have warmly welcomed us all to the region and we will do all we can to make them proud. Riders are absolutely everything to us and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.

Some of you are doing your first Classic in our series of events, and some are doing your 9th! We say thank you, and wish you all the best over the event weekend. Enjoy the experience and ride safely. Noosa has a deep and rich history, as do the surrounding villages of Cootharaba, Kin Kin, Cooran and Imbil. Your presence in these towns will be welcomed and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the amazing scenery around this stunning region.

We are dedicated to creating an environmentally sustainable and close to plastic free event as possible. Please respect the region and dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided at the rest stops or Event Village. And keep an eye out for our volunteer Waste Warriors, who will be around the Event Village helping sort your rubbish.

To our sponsors, thank you! Your support makes this event possible and we encourage all participants to meet our partners while enjoying the Event Village. These companies are leaders in their field and we are very proud to have them as part of the event.

Staff and volunteers are critical to events of this magnitude and I thank all involved – a lot goes on behind the scenes to ensure your safety and a smooth ride.

On behalf of the Noosa Classic team I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing you on the Start Line and at the post-event celebrations in the Event Village. Enjoy the ride, and ride hard but safe!

Sincerely, James Yaffa, Founder, The Classics

W E L C O M E F R O M T H E R I D E   D I R E C T O RWelcome to the 2021 Noosa Classic – our 3rd Edition of the event. The 2020 Noosa Classic was postponed due to COVID 19, so I am extremely happy to welcome you all here on the Start line for the 2021 event! I hope that you enjoy your experience.

This year we have 3 Fondo courses to choose from – the 160km Maxi Classic, 120km Challenge Classic, and the brand-new 65km Rouleurs Classic. These events showcase the best that the Noosa Hinterland has to offer!

This guide will give you all the details you need for the event, for each course, how to prepare and what to bring on the day. If you then have any further questions before the event, please don’t hesitate to flick us an email at [email protected]. Otherwise, come ready to ride an unforgettable cycling event around a scenic course.

Keep safety at the forefront of your mind when out riding. The roads are still open to traffic. Shout out a “Hi” or words of encouragement to other riders on course. Let them know your intent to pass by saying “rider right” to ensure safety on our roads. Remember that this Gran Fondo event is a ride, not a race. Ride to your abilities and respect all road rules, other riders and road users.

There will be traffic controllers out on course for your safety, we will also have volunteers on the course to provide direction for you, so please follow their direction and listen to their warnings.

Also please remember that this is a COVID safe event, so please be considerate of social distancing and use the sanitising stations provided around the event regularly. We will also have QR codes to check-in when required for contact tracing.

We will be at the Finish Line to cheer you in as you get to the Event Village. You have done it, you have conquered your course! Encourage your family and friends to come down and cheer you in, as well as experience the Event Village atmosphere with you. At the Village you can enjoy a well-deserved cold drink (a complimentary one for riders), grab a bite to eat from some of the local food trucks and restaurants, or enjoy the live entertainment while you sit back and relax on a comfy beanbag. If you feel that you need it after pushing through those kms there is a massage tent for a quick complimentary rub down!

Cheers, David Kemp, Ride Director

W E L C O M E F R O M T H E Q L D G O V E R N M E N TMessage from the Minister for Tourism Industry Development and Innovation and Minister for Sport The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP

Welcome to Noosa Classic, a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the Sunshine Coast’s local culture and community, and hopefully explore some of the superb tourism experiences on offer here.

The impacts of the pandemic have provided incredible challenges, but thanks to the hard work of Queenslanders our state was one of the first to put in place a COVID Safe Event Framework which paved the way for events such as this one to take place.

The Queensland Government is proud to support Noosa Classic, through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program and it is a feature on our It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar. Events are an important part of our state’s economic recovery from the pandemic because they attract visitors to the region which stimulates the local economy and supports local jobs. Events are also an important opportunity for communities, friends, families and visitors to come together, creating community pride and reconnecting us.

Congratulations to the event organisers and all those involved in organising this event – may it be a successful one.

If you are visiting for the event, I encourage you to make some time to explore the diverse tourism experiences on offer in this beautiful region.

The Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Tourism Industry Development and Innovation and Minister for Sport.

C O V I D - 1 9 S A F E   E V E N TThe Noosa Classic will be operating as a COVID Safe event.

We have been working closely with QLD Health and relevant Government agencies to ensure best COVID Safe practices are adopted throughout the event. The Noosa Classic has a COVID-19 Safety Plan for both the on-course and village areas.

OUR COVID SAFE EVENT STRATEGY* IS: ● All riders must wear a face mask when not riding, e.g. at the Start Line, at rest stops and at the Event Village.

● If you, or your supporter are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms (such as a sore throat, cough or fever), please do not attend the event.

● Practice social distancing across all event areas. Follow event signage (including ground signage) regarding appropriate social distancing between other participants and event staff / volunteers.

● Hand sanitiser will be available at the Start Line, all rest stops and in the Event Village. All participants, supporters, staff and volunteers are to use the hand sanitiser to ensure good hygiene practice.

● Participants will commence the event at staggered start times and encouraged to arrive just before their nominated time to reduce gathering at the Start Line.

● Record keeping for all participants will occur via the unique seat post identification stickers. All supporters, staff and volunteers must check in using the Service QLD QR code at our information desk at both the Start Line and the Event Village areas.

● Additional cleaning of toilets, services and high touch areas will occur throughout the event.

● Event signage will be displayed prominently through the event.

(*Please note: The information above is based on the current Public Health Order. COVID guidelines may change and we will update the event website accordingly)

Your personal details are recorded with this number and it will be used for identification if medical attention is required.

If driving, please do not put the seat post sticker on your bike before arriving to the event. Going along the freeway at 110kph is not advised for the stickers as they will deteriorate and become ineffective.

COVID-19Event Organisers are working closely with QLD Health to hold a COVID-safe event. We advise participants and / or spectators not to attend if they are displaying any COVID symptoms.

In accordance with QLD Health regulations, you must carry a face mask with you at all times unless you have a lawful reason not to. You must wear the mask when you cannot maintain 1.5m distance between others, e.g. at the Start Line, rest stops and Event Village.

WEATHERThe average weather in Noosa for October is 26° / 17°. The day will likely be sunny and dry, so come prepared. However, there is always a chance of showers, so riders should be prepared. Please ensure we have your correct contact phone number as any weather updates will be sent to all riders by text.

NUTRITION AND HYDRATIONThis is a Sunday ride, but not like your usual hit out. Two factors cannot be underestimated:

● Even at 30km/h riders will be out for 5-plus hours on the bike. ● Riders should consume 1g of carbohydrate per kilogram of body weight per hour.

Every rider should carry some nutrition to start the ride e.g. gels, bananas, muesli bars. Also riders are encouraged to carry two 750 ml water biddons. Plan to drink all your fluids by the time you get to the next station. Do not wait to feel thirsty before you drink, by then it will be too late.

DROP RUBBISH ZONEThe Noosa Classic is an environmentally friendly event. Please retain all rubbish (such as tubes, canisters, gel and food wrappers, etc) and discard in bins at the Rest Stops. Anyone caught littering will be removed from the event.

PHOTO RIGHTSUpon registering for the event, the rider acknowledges the event organisers can freely use their images and footage for publicity and promotion of the event in all media (television, radio, press, internet, posters, cards, flyers, pictures and videos), without the right to receive any financial compensation from the event organisers.

EBIKES & SPECIAL EXEMPTIONSeBikes are only permitted in the 65km Rouleurs Classic and must be unmodified and comply with Australian safety standards.

Time Trial (TT) bars are not permitted in the Noosa Classic. Riders need to confirm with the event organisers to use special bikes such as Tandem/Hand Bikes, etc. Please also communicate with event organisers if you require assistance due to a disability. Please email [email protected].

QLD Police mandate that participants are not permitted on a road during periods of poor visibility due to inclement weather or fog, or where there is insufficient daylight to render a person dressed in dark clothing to be discernible at a distance of 100 metres.

The Noosa Classic rides are not on closed roads.

● Ride on the left-hand side of the road. ● Wear an Australian approved helmet at all times – no helmet = no ride.

● Respect all road rules. ● Respect all road users, bikes, pedestrians and vehicles.

● All bikes are to have a bell. ● Each rider is required to respect the environment and the natural areas visited. There is a zero tolerance on littering including paper, plastic packaging etc on the event course. Any rider caught throwing waste on the event course will be disqualified.

● It is NOT permissible for any rider to use a personal music device this includes earphones &/or speakers.

● At the Ride Referees discretion, riders may be withdrawn from the event if they are outside the designated cut-off times and their safety cannot be reasonably ensured.

● While every effort has been made to mark out and officiate the course route, it remains the rider’s responsibility to be conversant with the ride route.

● Cyclists are reminded that road cycling can be considered a dangerous sport and whilst all reasonable care is taken by organisers and officials when organising an event, all participants have an equal responsibility to ensure they take all reasonable care by adhering to the road rules and other conditions imposed by ride officials, ensuring a safe ride environment for all concerned.

R I D E R B E H A V I O U RFor this event to be run to a high standard, particularly for safety, there will be Noosa Classic staff involved in the event. These supervisors will act as necessary to apply penalties for any rider who does not comply within the event rules.

The Noosa Classic is not a race. Safety is our first priority.

There is a high possibility that at some point during the event, riders will overtake other riders from other courses who are doing shorter courses. Riders MUST do this in a safe and orderly fashion.

SAFETY BRIEFINGSA comprehensive Safety Briefing Video will be emailed out to all riders. Please ensure you have reviewed this prior to the event day. It is also available to view online: www.noosaclassic.com.au/rider-information.

EVENT TIMINGAll courses will be timed. The Noosa Classic is not a race, this is an opportunity for riders to set a time which you can improve on in future years. If you believe your timing is incorrect, please visit the Tomato Timing tent at the Event Village or email [email protected].
