WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION

Golazo Cycling Ltd (GCL) welcome you to the first ever ToC100 and ToC67. Both events are part of

the Tour of Cambridgeshire, which is a jam-packed weekend of cycling!

After five years, we’re still learning and growing as an event but in the process, we’re re-defining

the mass participation cycle sport scene in the UK. The UCI regard the Tour of Cambridgeshire as

being one of the best mass participation cycle events in the World and we really hope you enjoy

the experience. We go to great lengths to create an event experience which gives the masses and

many of our competitive elite level riders a real taste of what the best organised events around

the world are like for amateurs and professionals alike. Our vision is to create a pro experience

for everyday amateur cyclists, as well as increase the level of participation in cycling through our

event.

ToC100 and ToC67 is perfect for everyone, including a rider who competes at a high level, the individual who loves a challenge or those of you who are a devoted fundraiser. The opportunity to experience the spectacle on fully supported closed roads is a rare treat in the UK.

We do hope you all enjoy a safe positive experience riding ToC100 and ToC67, and don’t forget,

we’re open to all feedback to ensure we grow and get better year on year.

Finally, we would like to offer thanks to all of those organisations who have partnered with us to create something unique on the British landscape and who have backed us to deliver the Tour of Cambridgeshire. We do hope we do them all proud.

ARRIVAL AT THE EVENT AND PARKING

We would like to offer you a warm and heartfelt welcome to ToC 2019 and wish you a safe

journey both to and from the event.

The Event HQ location is East of England Showground and Arena, Peterborough, PE2 6HE.

TRAVELLING BY CAR

To ensure your experience is at the highest level possible from start to finish, you MUST avoid a

rush and last minute arrivals. Late arrivals can cause major issues and spoil the whole experience

we have created. We encourage all riders to arrive early, soak up the atmosphere, grab a bite to

eat and have a wander through the Bike Show.

To make things easy, we have a huge Event HQ site, with parking available for 10’s of thousands

of vehicles! To get to the Event HQ, use the postcode PE2 6HE. There is Official Event Parking

available at the Event HQ. Tiered parking charges will be in place according to the day and time of

arrival at the Event HQ. All parking charges can be found at www.tourofcambridgeshire.com.

There is no overnight parking within the Official Event Parking areas.

The reason for the tiered parking charges is to encourage as many riders to take advantage of the

free of charge parking prior to 7.00am. To ensure that we can hold future events, we have to

avoid queuing traffic on the road networks, including motorways, around the Event HQ. These

charges have been stipulated by the local authorities.

You will have access to and from your vehicle, aswell as to and from the Event HQ throughout the

duration of the event.

Page 6: Rider Information Manual ToC100 & ToC 67 and ToC67 V1.3.pdf · Club Kermesse Open 09.00 – 19.00 Club Kermesse Race Start 09.00 Start Area Women Gran Fondo Start 09.53 Start Area

TOC100 2019 PAGE 5

When you have parked your vehicle, you will find directional signage to the Event HQ.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

Peterborough Station is serviced by LNER, with the station being only 45mins from London Kings

Cross and approximately one hour from Leeds. The Peterborough railway station is

approximately 5 miles away from the Event HQ.

It is possible to get to Event HQ from the station on bike while avoiding major roads and there is

also a dedicated cycle path.

TRAVELLING BY BIKE OR FOOT

If you’re travelling by bike, the safest route to take is via Oundle Road, Brimbles Way and enter the Event HQ through Dunblane Drive.

If you’re travelling by foot, we have two pedestrian access points – one can be found via the Dunblane Drive entrance and the other can be found off the roundabout north entrance of the site.

WHAT’S IN THE RIDER PACKS

RIDER NUMBER

You’ll find your Rider Number within your Rider Pack. Instructions on where your rider number

needs to be positioned will be found in your Rider Pack. Don’t forget to bring 4 safety pins with

you.

If you have ridden in any other event, ensure you have the correct number on the for the event

you’re taking part in; you will have a different rider number for each event you take part in.

TIMING CHIP STICKER

Along with your Rider Number, your timing chip is very important. Without this, or if you place it

in the incorrect position, you won’t receive a finishing time.

Within your pack, you’ll find a briefing sheet as to where everything is to be placed. At the top of

this sheet, you’ll find a sticker with your Rider Number on it. This sticker contains your timing

chip. Follow the instructions that come with the Helmet Sticker to ensure you place it in the

correct position.

If you have ridden in any other event, ensure you have the correct timing chip number on the for

the event you’re taking part in; you will have a different rider number for each event you take

part in.

If you lose your timing chip before the start of the Race, then a replacement will be available at

the Event Solutions desk for a fee of £20. If the timing chip is lost during your ride, your time will

not be recorded and you will appear in the results as a Did Not Finish (DNF). The consequence of

a DNF is that you will not be entitled to a finisher’s medal and you will not receive a finish time.

TOC100 2019 PAGE 11

COLOUR NUMBER STICKERS

You will find two stickers, one long and one small, with your Rider Number on them. These

stickers ensure that should your bike be lost or retrieved, we can then return it to you.

The long sticker is to be put on your seat post. We want you to have the best snaps of your

amazing experience at ToC, so the small number sticker is for the front on your helmet. This

allows our photographers to put all the photos together of you, rather than you having to trawl

through the hundreds of thousands of images taken over the weekend’s events.

START TIMES AND PENS

We like to be unique, so with this in mind and considering ToC100 is held on a Sunday, we want

to give you a little bit of a lay in, instead of having to be on the start line at silly o’clock in the

morning.

The Event HQ is open from 6:00am and we’ve made sure there’s lots going on in the lead up to

the ToC100 start time of 10:30am.

To ensure all riders get off the start line safely and ahead of the Pace Car, riders are split into

waves, which each have a specific start time:

Group / Wave Pen Opening Time Wave Start Time

Club Kermesse 10:00 10:30

ToC100 10:00 10:32

ToC67 10:15 10:45

All start pens are open to riders on a first come, first served basis. We ask that everyone is

courteous to others, ensuring no queue jumping or entering in front of other riders, as well as

keeping the entrance to the pens clear from any queues before opening.

There are limited toilet facilities available after entering the pens, so we would like to remind

everyone to use facilities prior to entering the start pens.

The most likely time for rider incidents to occur is during the Start so it essential that during the

start phase of the event all riders respect one another and ride safely in a group. It is strongly

recommend that at all times slower riders ride on the left hand side of the road and faster riders

on the right and that overtaking by faster riders is done on the right.

Come along, take advantage of the breakfast options, the amazing Cambridgeshire Bike Show

and the chance to chill and soak in the atmosphere before jumping on the bike to enjoy 100-

miles of closed roads.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW

MINIMUM SPEED

To ensure that we comply with the road closures we have for the event, riders will be required to

complete the route in a certain time. There will be a Pace Car marks the back of the event; any

rider who find themselves behind the Pace Car will be out of the event and must abide by the

Highway Code.

Riders will be required to average a minimum of 12mph around the route inclusive of any stops

or breaks. Therefore if you stop for any reason you will have to ride quicker when you remount..

If any stops are taken, including any Pit Stop breaks, these must be taken into consideration.

Riders will be required to take the shorter route options if they find themselves behind the Pace

Car prior to the route cut off points. These points can be found on the ToC100 route, found on

page 7.

If riders are overtaken by the Pace Car, a member of the convoy team will mark rider numbers to

show they have been spoken to. Riders may wish to travel back to the Event HQ via the Broom

Wagon.

MEDICAL

We have a huge Medical Team covering the whole ToC event. There will be Medical cover

available on the route, at the Event HQ and at each of the three Pit Stops.

All riders MUST complete the Medical Data Sheet on the back of the rider number, even if you

are unaware of any medical conditions you may have. As well as this, please register any medical

information on the ToC Medical Register, which can be found HERE.

If you require medical treatment at any point throughout the event, make yourself known to a

Marshall, Steward or any of the convoy team out on the road where possible. If you’re unable to

do this, call the Medical contact number, which can be found on the reverse of your rider

number.

In the event of minor cuts and bruising, you will find a Medical Post at each Pit Stop.

BIKE SPECIFICATION

Riders may use any type of bike, including road bike, mountain bike, city bike, hybrid bike, cross

bike. If you’re looking to ride a tandem or recumbent bike, please contact us at enquiries before

arriving at the event.

It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure their bike is road worthy. Golazo Cycling Ltd take no

responsibility or liability for an un-roadworthy bike.

TOC100 2019 PAGE 15

MINIMUM AGE

Rider participation age in ToC100 and ToC67 is age as per 31st December in the year of the event.

classification a Parental Consent Form is not required.

• 14 years and over – classified in the Minor age classification. In the Minor classification a

Parental Consent Form is required and must ride with an adult throughout the duration of

the event.

ROUTE HAZARDS

There are very few hazards on the ToC100 route. Hazards will be identified with either cautionary

signage or a static Marshall in Hi Viz clothing, a flag and a whistle. The typical Hazards on the

routes are:

• Narrow Lanes

• Sharp turns or corners

• Road furniture typically central reservations, roundabouts or bollards.

Whilst Golazo endeavours to ensure that the route is in the best possible shape for the event, the

respective roads are owned and maintained by the local authority and respective private owners.

As you can imagine with a route this long some potholes and road degradation can be

experienced through the route. The roads are safe to ride as stipulated by those owning these

roads. You will need to be vigilant and ride with respect to the circumstances that present

themselves within the race.

SAFETY

• It is obligatory that riders wear a regulation safety helmet for ToC100. Riders take part at

their own risk and have signed a disclaimer to that effect.

• Bikes used in ToC100are to be of the type typically acceptable for sportives. Tri-bars are

prohibited as a well as ‘Spinergy’ type wheels.

• Ride on the left-hand side of the road whenever possible, with common courtesy and

good road presence. It’s a riders responsibility to ride safely around and with other.

All photography is provided by a highly regarded team from Sportograf, Germany. They will have

photographers located around the route. They will also have a fleet of motorcycle mounted

photographers to ride within the events and capture images of riders in the event. Be aware of

the photographers and film crew and do not impede on the motorcycles.

Make sure you smile for the camera!!

BAG DROP

Instead of having to walk all the way back to your car to ensure your bag is safe, why not take

advantage of our secure Bag Drop. All you need is your belongings that you wish to leave with the

Bag Drop Team and make your way to the designated area within the Event HQ.

The Bag Drop facility is provided and managed by a local charity. All fees taken for the Bag Drop

facility is donated to charity.

CRITICAL HOUSE KEEPING

We apply a strong environmental policy to our events; we strive to leave all local communities as

we found them and litter free. If we don’t respect this position we will not be welcomed back in

future years, which means there will be no more ToC100.

PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE when using the event facilities and also while you’re out on the road,

specifically in relation to:

1. Waste / litter MUST BE placed in a waste bins provided. These can be found at the Event HQ or

the Pit Stop, so make sure you keep that litter safe until you arrive at one of these destinations.

2. Damage to the grounds either within the buildings or in the car park area.

- Organisers reserve the right to apply a fine for causing damage above and beyond reasonable

wear and tear. The particular concern here is in the event of wet ground and the need to use

some of the grass parking areas.

If you find that your vehicle gets stuck due to wet grounds, please inform the car-park operators

who will organise removal, rather than you causing damage to the grounds.

RIDER INSURANCE

We don’t provide any rider insurance but we do highly recommend that you are covered when

taking part in ToC100.

TAKE A BREAK AT THE PIT STOPS

There are up to three Pit Stops available around the ToC routes (3 x Pit Stops on the 100 mile

route and 2 x Pit Stops on 67 mile route). Each Pits Stop is available for all riders to stop, refresh,

refuel and also use toilet facilities where necessary. You’ll also find medical support at each stop

should you require any medical assistance.

Each of the Pit Stops are filled with water and High5 energy products, as well as fruit, sweet and

savoury options. All of our sweet and savoury snacks are provided by a local bakery.

When you’re planning to stop at the Pit Stop, don’t forget to:

• Be aware of other riders around you

• Indicate to other riders that you’re slowing down and turning off the route for the Pit Stop

• Slow down and get off your bike on entering the Pit Stop

• Be aware that riders may be exiting the Pit Stop when you are entering

• Don’t forget to smile and have a chat to our Tour Makers, who will be looking after you at

the Pit Stop

• Although we want you to enjoy your break, don’t forget that the Pace Car doesn’t stop

round the route. Stay ahead of the Pace Car to stay on the closed roads.

If you’re not stopping at the Pit Stop:

• Be aware that riders may be stopping at the Pit Stop

• Overtake riders on the opposite side to the Pit Stop but always signal before

manoeuvring.

Please note that all refuelling must be completed at the designated Pit Stops. Any feeds taken

place outside the Pit Stops will lead to a disqualification. The fresh baked food may contain or

have come into contact with nuts.

to soak up the finish line atmosphere. You’ve done it!

Huge congratulations to you….
