In just three years’ time, we at Ridgeback will be celebrating our 40th birthday. Where has the time gone? For nearly 37 years, we have been lovingly designing bicycles for the wonderful riders of our fair country. Over the years we’ve helped you learn to ride, get to work (& the pub) on time, explore distant lands & discover the unrivalled joy that two pedal-powered wheels can give you.
We haven’t lasted this long without learning to change – which you can see from our timeline below – & the 2020 range is one of our biggest changes yet. After the launch of our new re-brand back in February 2019, we have now extended that across the entire range and put in some
long hours to bring you bicycles that we hope you’ll be as excited as us about. This is more than product evolution. It’s a full-scale revolution!
As you flick through the pages of our latest catalogue, the big changes are there to see, but pay particular attention to our new-look leisure & commute range, our best-selling children’s bikes & our ever-expanding collection of electric bicycles. We have even introduced our first-ever E-Cargo model, demonstrating once more that when it comes to bike design, we never stand still.

SWITCH STORMMountain or Street Bike?
Our Urban series was another trend
setter. Developed back in 1998, these
slick-tyred street mountain bikes were
not only lots of fun to ride but provided
a real alternative to the more traditional
style commuting bikes.
They became the Switch series in 2003,
and the line ran right up until 2012.

In 2001, we created the flat bar road
bike. Originally called Genesis, this new
breed of fast commuter sports bike was
regarded as a significant development in
cycle genres.
Despite having evolved significantly, the
DNA of this bike runs through today’s
range.

Launched in 2013, Shimano STEPS popularity has grown quickly with cycling enthusiasts and every day users alike. Designed around a smooth mid-motor design, it offers a cycling experience that is unparalleled in efficiency, squeezing every last drop of power out of your battery. With systems offering 40, 60 and 70nm of torque, STEPS has an option that is perfect for every style of electric bicycle.
New to our range for 2020 is Sport Drive. Designed by our assembly partner in Europe, Sport Drive is the perfect system to compliment Shimano STEPS. Working on a similar mid-drive system, Sport Drive uses a Dapu drive unit paired with a Panasonic battery. Household names in the electronic industry, providing an exciting electric bike experience at a fantastic price point. For 2020 we are offering Sport Drive in two configurations, our E-SUV Arcus model is ready to tackle rough tarmac, gravel and trails whilst our familiar Electron model is perfect for everything from commuting to the weekend spin to the shops.

2019 has been a huge year of change
here at Ridgeback. A complete rebrand,
new frame designs and new models
galore, we’ve really jumped to the next
level. But our most exciting development
has been the rise of the electric bike.
They’re perfect for everything from
commuting to leisure riding - and even
delivery with our new cargo model.
Electric bikes are the future and we have
plans to expand our range even further
over the coming months and years. Our
pick of the current bunch is the X2,
falling in the E-SUV category, it’s ideal
for tackling both track and trail seven
days a week.
FLIGHT R2525th Anniversary
In 2008 we launched the R25 to mark
our 25th anniversary. It was a limited
edition of one hundred very special
flat bar road bikes – at the time it was
Ridgeback’s most advanced flat bar we’d
ever made.
Five years on and it’s clear that the R25
was a precursor of the future of braking
on flat bar bikes as it was equipped
with Shimano Deore XT hydraulic discs.
Today, all Flight series bikes come
equipped with hydraulic
disc brakes.
SUPERNOVA XT30th Anniversary
It’s been 24 years since we launched our
first hybrid bike, the Roxy. That bike was
a predecessor to the Metro series, one
of the most successful commuter bike
ranges in the UK.
To celebrate our 30th anniversary,
last year’s Metro series included a
limited-edition Supernova equipped
with Shimano’s premium level Deore XT
components. The 2014 Supernova XT
offered fifty lucky riders the opportunity
to own a practical and comfortable
commuting bike of the highest quality.
On top of that, each one was individually
numbered from 1-50, making them an
exclusive purchase.
DUAL TRACK ADVANCEBig wheels keep on rolling
The Dual Track was a robust all-rounder
with 29” wheels, aimed at riders looking
for a more comfortable off-road

today’s Dual Track is more off-road

Specified with batteries ranging from 300wh to 504wh, a range of up to 180km is achievable depending on the riding conditions. For convenience the battery can be charged on and off the bike making it simple to top your levels up whilst at work – simply take the battery off the frame and plug it in. As you can see in our timeline, Ridgeback actually started out as a mountain bike brand in 1983 and although we have changed a bit, we have never lost our love for the off-road.
Our latest 4-strong range, named Terrain – are ideal for those that prefer the comfort of wider tyres and front suspension or beginner mountain bikers looking to branch out into more serious off-road adventures.
Built around a dependable aluminium frame, each Terrain model packs 100mm of travel up front to soak up bigger bumps and small drops with a dependable Shimano drivetrain. Rolling on grippy 27.5” Trax tyres, the Terrain range gives plenty of confidence when departing the canal toe paths in search of something more challenging. The Terrain 2 is also available in a low step-over option for those that prefer.
Designing children’s bikes may well be the most rewarding part of the job for us. When we see an Instagram clip of some youngster getting to grips with a balance bike or learning to pedal for the first time, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Our best-selling range of children’s bikes gets even better for 2020. A complete redesign of the Dimension range sees updates to the frame design, a new lightweight aluminium fork, lightweight aluminium handlebars and stems along with a new wider tyre that improves comfort and confidence for all ages. The changes made to the Dimension 16 have saved over 800g in weight against the previous model, making it one of the lightest 16in children’s bikes on the market.
Our long-running MX series has updated colours and graphics and are now paired with an A-head stem on all sizes for 20in upwards. This helps save weight, improves looks but also offers the same range of adjustment as the previous design. We have even added two new models in the Serenity and MX26. Based around a 26in wheel and a robust specification, it’s the ideal bike for those fast-growing kids.
