RIDGELINE OF NEW ZEALAND
Ridgeline began life as a New Zealand owned and operated specialist outdoor clothing brand at the hands of Peter Maxwell. In mid-1993 Peter began working on
the first Ridgeline designs and the product range was successfully launched in the March/April 1994 issue of NZ Guns &Hunting magazine.
Prior to commencing Ridgeline, Peter had manufactured his own range of tough motorcycle and motocross clothing, which gave him a hands-on insight into what Kiwi outdoors people needed - clothing that was warm, light, comfortable and able to
handle a lot of very rough treatment.
In the early years the Ridgeline brand achieved a high level of acceptance with New Zealand hunters, but Peter’s time was always divided between his manufacturing and magazine editing tasks, which meant that Ridgeline did not always receive the attention it deserved. So when Cameron Sports Imports Ltd. indicated an interest in
acquiring the Ridgeline brand, the deal was done.
Since then, with innovation and hard work the brand has grown exponentiallybecoming a market leader in the Australasian hunting clothing scene and now
branching further afield into the likes of the United Kingdom and Western Europe.
The Ridgeline philosophy has been consistent from the early beginnings until now - to ensure that comfortable, durable performance outdoor clothing should be
affordable. With grass roots in the rugged New Zealand Mountains, Ridgeline has developed a specialist range of fabrics to suit just about any challenge your

GUARANTEE AND SATISFACTION
Ridgeline makes every effort to ensure that it’s products are produced to the highest of standards and that they perform to these standards too. We are constantly working on new innovations as well as using the latest in fabric technologies to provide a product that meets and exceeds your needs.
We have a very stringent quality control process in place that is tracked throughout the manufacturing process and this ensures that the garment you purchase is made to the highest of standards.
In the unlikely event that you do experience a problem with your Ridgeline purchase, we will make every effort to ensure that the product is replaced as soon as physically possible.
All Ridgeline products come with a full 12month statutory warranty which covers against manufacturing faults including membranes, fabrics, closures, fasteners and zips.

If a garment is returned with a fault we will happily replace it however please be aware that this warranty does not cover the following:

The location was to be the island of Tarnasay and the accommodation was billed as the luxurious Borve Lodge on the Isle of Skye. Invitations had been sent out to six of the world’s most prominent hunting journalists. They had been asked to join four highly respected hunting brands, one of which was Ridgeline, to experience what they had to offer in some of the most testing conditions in the United Kingdom.
What the journalists didn’t know was that this was all a cover for a ground breaking social experiment.
After a few hold ups and a couple of re-arranged travel plans everyone arrived at the sumptuous Borve Lodge to meet each other and listen to the opening brief.
They were told about the Island of Tarnasay, and its population of approximately 200 red deer, a number of which need to be culled to allow the breeding stock to remain healthy and keep the numbers manageable. Using the equipment supplied, the hunters would take it in turn to stalk. After three days they would evaluate the equipment, then return home and write about their experiences.
The reality would turn out to be rather different. After a relaxing evening and a fantastic meal, the hunters went to bed unaware of the fate that waited for them in the morning, and dreamt of red stags in abundance and trophies that would be adorning their walls very shortly.
After breakfast and a number of informative instructional presentations, the hunters dressed for departure. Steve Woodall, the deer manager for the estate, gave a safety briefing, and, as we were to depart on an old Falkland Islands landing craft, issued life jackets.
Once everyone was ready, they left the luxurious surroundings of Borve behind, and set off for the remote island in search of their prey. A smooth crossing and the sight of sea eagles and sea lions ensured the guests were relaxed and in a good mood for the day’s activity.
Once on dry land the group gathered together, then the bomb shell was dropped: they would not be going back to the lodge that evening. The guy they had thought was a photographer was actually a survival instructor. The landing craft would not coming back for another 72 hours.

Now the emphasis was on survival and not trophy heads; now the priorities had changed; now the hunters had to think about what is the most important thing to do next based on the ‘rule of three’: 1. You can survive three minutes without oxygen.2. You can survive three hours without shelter.3. You can survive three days without water.4. You can survive three weeks without food.
Oxygen was not a problem, and, as for shelter, the hunters had the best clothing that they could wish for, but they needed to establish a camp and get a fire going as soon as possible.
Luckily, there was plenty of driftwood and other useful items washed up along the coast, which could be used. The hunters gathered as much useful stuff as they could and headed to an area where they could establish a shelter with water near by. It was a hard walk uphill to the base camp location and, as we were carrying all the scavenged essentials with us, we had to construct makeshift carrying apparatus to even out the load.
Though it was a strenuous march, every one bore up and eventually we got to what could be our home for the next few nights, which was an over hanging rock next to a water source. The next thing that was needed was a shelter, so a tarpaulin was erected using the overhanging rock as the anchor. At the same time, a hunting party was gathered and set off to get that evenings meal. Whilst the hunting party was away, the others built the shelter, collected water, and received instruction on fire lighting techniques. After that, a fire was lit ready for the hunters to return with the evening meal.
But the hunters had no such luck: they returned empty handed. It was getting dark and it was time to bed down for the night as there was nothing else that could be done. On top of everything else, that there was a massive weather front approaching and conditions was deteriorating rapidly.

That evening the wind reached gale force and the rain was being blown sideways by the strong winds. The group huddled under the tarpaulin for shelter and sat tight. At approximately 3 am, there was a thud. A rock, which had been used to anchor the tarpaulin, had been dragged off and landed between two hunters. This could have been disastrous if it had hit them, as it was a no-fly condition for any helicopters. An injury at this point would have put an end to the adventure. The tarpaulin then blew from its anchor points, so the hunters decided to wrap themselves in it to shelter and protect themselves from any more danger.
It was an uncomfortable and dangerous night, but dawn finally broke over the mist covered the hills. Visibility was poor. The first priority was to light a fire, then get a hunting party together to see if a beast would give up its life for a party of bedraggled and hungry hunters.
The hunters gathered, led by the ever-professional Steve Woodall, and set off in search of a red stag that would satisfy the group’s growing hun-ger. The rut had started, and the sounds of stags roaring echoed through the valleys.
The party headed up the hill to avoid being seen: keeping in dead ground and approaching from above seemed the best tactic to employ. Then they came into sight of some beasts. They were around 400 meters away, which was too far for a safe shot, especially when visibility was not good. So it was decided that the hunters should traverse and come down to approach from the rear. This didn’t work: the deer were spooked and had moved further away. It was frustrating. This carried on for four hours and the party was getting weary. Lack of sleep and food meant that they had to cut the stalk short and head back. Energy levels were low and there was a danger that this could have a seriously bad out-come.
The hunting party arrived back at base location and its members were seriously ashamed that they couldn’t provide food for the rest of the team. Now things were starting to look bleak. It was obvious that being so high in the hills was a disadvantage to a successful stalk, so camp was broken and the team headed down to lower ground. The term ‘team’ is used at this point as this now became a team effort to get food and although some welks were gathered to make a tasty broth, it wasn’t enough to sustain a party of 11 people.
Another factor that had to be considered at this point was that the continued lack of food, the cold weather and the lack of sleep would considerably heighten the chances of cold weather injuries, such as exposure and hypothermia. The ability to make rational decisions would also be affected, so food was urgently needed.
We have taken the classic Kiwi fleece trousers to a different level. The team made a short hike to a nearby bothy, taking all the essentials with them. This would provide shelter for the foreseeable future, but the lack of food and sleep was starting to take its toll and energy levels were waning quickly.
Food was needed to address the hunger, but low energy levels limited the stalking options. Keeping to low ground was a must as climbing hills depletes energy reserves quickly, and the further away the prey was, the riskier the stalk would be. With this in mind,the next group of hunters was despatched to bring home the Venison.
As the rest of the team remained in the Bothy, they lit a fire and sat in silence so they would be able to hear the shot that would bring back the all-important food. The shot never came; again the hunters returned with heads lowered. The feeling that they had let the rest of the team down was written all over their faces. As ever though, the team spirit and everyone’s understanding of the difficult hunting conditions allowed them to put this failure to one side and look forward to the next opportunity. This would come the next morning, so everyone bedded down for the night.
As the light started to filter through the low cloud and the roar of the stags began to echo around the hills, the first hunters began to stir. Through the open door of the bothy, the silhouettes of two red deer could just be made out on the hill. They were about 100 meters away. The hunting party was gathered and, in silent anticipation, they started to prepare. The deer were spooked and moved further away, but the hunters began to move silently through dead ground to try to get within range to ensure that all-important clean shot. By now all the hunters had experienced the difficulties of hunting the Taransay red deer, so had enormous respect for the prey that would hopefully give up its life so they could eat.

From the bothy, the remainder of the party could see the stalk in all of its entirety. They watched as a lone stag appeared in the distance, half way down a hill but in range of the hunters. It stopped, looked over its shoulder, and turned, but didn’t move off. He changed his mind and started to graze. The stalkers moved into position. The range was good; the position was perfect, all that was needed now was the shooter to squeeze the trigger and ensure that the bullet struck true.
A shot rang out and the stag fell. Cheers rose from the bothy and the team started to anticipate venison for breakfast. After 72 hours without food, the wait was over. The team made its way to the prize. They were all keen to pay their respects to the shooter, but, more importantly, to the stag that had given up its life to ensure their survival.
For the shooter who had been behind the trigger, this was his first red stag. The emotion was easy to see, and he could not hold back his feelings. This was not only because it was his first beast, but also because of the immense pressure that he had been under to provide for the team. He was rewarded with the gratitude of his team members and was blooded in traditional style.
It didn’t take long for members of the team to butcher the beast. While they did this, others prepared a fire on the beach, making it ready to receive the prized meat. The team helped to drag the beast to an area that would be suitable for the butchery and this began in earnest with everyone helping out.

The choice cuts were butchered on the spot and the remainder of the carcass was divided up so that it could be transported back to the mainland. Nothing would be wasted. This animal gave his life for the team, and it would have been wholly disrespectful to waste even an ounce of meat.
The team prepared and cooked the hard-won food over the open fire with simple preparation and seasoning, then ate it together. This had been a true team effort and the deer belonged to the whole team: as the saying goes “there is no I in team”.
So there this adventure ended. The team was collected and returned to the mainland to tell the story of castaway 2015. But this adventure could have been a lot less exciting: the original intention was not to suffer such hardship, but to demonstrate the effectiveness of the equipment provided. The hunters could have all shot their intended stags, but then it would have turned into a story about the hunter who shot biggest trophy.
The experience certainly demonstrated the effectiveness of Ridgeline, as all of the hunters remained warm and dry throughout, but it also reinforced the need to be prepared when venturing out into the field. It was also a reminder that, as hunters, we must respect our prey and acknowledge that we are not equal to it, because we do not endure the hardship it does, nor could many of us survive in the conditions that our quarry endures, day in and day out.

CARE ADVICE
Caring for Ridgeline Waterproof clothing
Dirt and grime will affect the performance of Ridgeline waterproof clothing so keeping the garments clean is vital for maintaining its effectiveness. All waterproof clothing contains a membrane, which makes the garment waterproof and breathable. This membrane can be damaged and will cease to function correctly if the garment is not cared for correctly and as per the care instructions, which is normally located in the collar of the garment.
Avoid using the following cleaning products:
• Ordinary detergent• Detergents containing fabric conditioner• Fabric conditioner• Bleach
We recommend that you use a specialist-cleaning product that is specifically developed for washing clothing, which contains a membrane. These are available from most good outdoor retailers and will include instructions for the use of the product.
As most Ridgeline clothing is seam sealed to ensure that the garments are 100% waterproof. We recommend that you avoid allowing these garments to come in contact with direct heat. This will cause the seams to part from the main body of the garment and the garment will become unusable.
Examples of direct heat are as follows:• Laying garments on radiators• Drying the garment in a tumble dryer• Drying the garment on hot water pipes• Placing the garment in front of an open fire• Placing the garment in front of an electric blow heater or radiator• Airing Cupboard
