Opening of Classes:School Year 2020-2021• PWU Undergraduate Classes: August 3, 2020• PWU Graduate Studies: August 8, 2020
The Philippines TodayGlobal realities have defined the world that we live today. Borderless
communities, distinct historicity, varying levels of economic development and sustainability, safety and security in life, governance, migration and population growth, intercultural sensitivity, communication and changing lifestyles and developments in information and communication technology have radically changed the way we think and do things.
Education is no exception........Compelled to take a closer and deeper perspective, institutions of
educational learning are compelled to adjust, align and rethink on how education can be delivered to optimize learning. In particular, calamities in the form of typhoons, tsunamis, earthquakes and pandemics have significantly changed the paradigm of delivering instruction. These adversities have in one way or another affect teaching and learning. Rains and flooding prevent students from coming to school, earthquakes and tsunamis dislocate teachers and students and pandemics impose social distancing and work from home (WFH). With these actualities, institutions of higher learning whether public or private, have no other choice but to adopt a change mindset.

Online Learning Explained• In theory, a continuum of learning exists, ranging from traditional
face-to-face instruction on one end of the pendulum to fully online teaching on the other end of the pendulum with blended or hybrid learning within the swing.
• Online learning is an alternative form of education. It is a type of distance learning, oftentimes referred to as e-learning. It is education that takes place over the Internet.
• This mode of learning allows learners to experience three things: connectivity, convenience, and interaction.
• In addition, online learning may be instructor-led, self-directed or self-paced. Self-paced learning allows for flexibility with regards to time and place of learning.
• It can be defined in multiple formats and can be delivered in various methods of learning.
• Lastly, e-learning is dynamic. As technology continues to evolve, e-learning continues to adopt better and more innovative learning management platforms and takes on new and exciting forms of delivery of learning.
3
