Ballast Control

Jelec Ballast Control and Monitoring Systems (BCM) provides complete monitoring and control of all tank gauging, ballast valves, throttle valves, ballast pumps and draft data to facilitate ballasting, de-ballasting and maintaining proper trim and heel of the vessel.

The system can also be interfaced with stability software in a real-time mode, for constant monitoring of the vessel’s stability.

Jelec Ballast Control and Monitoring System is an “Open Architecture” system based on components from major manufacturers ensuring worldwide availability of services and spare parts.

The PLC processors are typically arranged in a “Redundant Hot-Backup” configuration and located within the ballast control console, with remote I/O panels located conveniently near the tops of columns, pump room, and MCC rooms.

The PLC’s are interfaced with the remote I/O over a copper or fiber optic industrial Ethernet network arranged in a ring topology, which provides communications redundancy and removes the single point of failure from the network. The heath status of all processors and I/O are displayed at the operator control stations. Optional mimic panels can be used in addition to main operator work stations for control and monitoring purposes.

System Functions• Remote open/close of all ballast and bilge valves• Total fail safe design for all valve and pump operations• Valve status and position indication on HMI screens• Remote start/stop of ballast and bilge pumps• Pump status and running indication on HMI screens• Tank Gauging Information• Draft indications for corner and mean vessel draft• Hull differential indication• Data Logging• System overall health status and diagnostics

Tank Gauging

The Jelec Tank Gauging HMI controls package with the LevelCom 100 is a reliable solution for use in new installations, as well as replacing existing manometer tank gauging systems. The measured the static pressure at the end of the sense line (or the analog signal from a transmitter) and converts the value into a vertical tank. It calculates the values and displays them on the front panel as 0 to 100% of tank depth on the bar graph indicator and in the desired units of measure (as depth, volume or weight) on the digital display. The tank data information is displayed locally (i.e. at the pump room or top of the columns), and also on the central graphical HMI screen.

Our tank gauging HMI / controls solution is flexible and can further simplify installation of various configuration though remote I/O’s to interface with any type of level/pressure sensor technologies, such as radar, ultrasonic and pressure transducers.

Jelec Tank Gauging System is based on the ABS type-approved LevelCom 100 computer, an instrument based on current bubbler gauge technology. The result is a microprocessor-based tank level indicating and process control system which utilizes either pulsed pneumatic (bubbler) depth sensing technology or analog voltage/current inputs.

System Functions

• System Functions• Level indication and alarm of all monitored tanks• Display data in feet, meters, short tons, long tons, etc• Total volume by the sum of all fuel oil tanks, drill water tanks, all

potable water tanks• Draft indications for corner and mean vessel draft• Historical trends and daily consumption tables• Hull differential indication• Self diagnostics line leaks, plugged lines, low supply air • Automatic purge to prevent sense line blockages

Helideck Monitoring

Weather Monitoring

Anchor Line Monitoring

Jelec Helideck Monitoring System (HMS) is used to analyze helideck motion and weather data during helicopter landings to ensure that the safety landing limitations, in hostile weather conditions are met.

The HMS monitors helideck altitude and vertical velocity, wind speed and direction, air temperature and barometric pressure and presents this information to indicate landing conditions. The HMS is typically used offshore on Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit and Floating-Production-Storage-Offloading vessels (FSO, FPSO).

Jelec Marine Weather Monitoring System (MWM) screens display all applicable sensor values and calculated readings in real-time, and offers automatic logging of all measured parameters. Graph / Trend screens display a 24 hour trend graph for all standard and calculated weather parameters.

The MWM utilizes cutting-edge ultrasonic technology providing wind direction and speed measurements, a highly-accurate impact rain sensor, capacitive relative humidity, temperature and barometric pressure readings, all in a single sensor module.

Jelec Anchor Line Monitoring System (ALM) monitors the payout and speed in single or multi-winch applications. Paired with any line tensiometer, it continuously monitors the tension in the anchor cables and provides alarms if dangerous tension levels are measured.

The ALM is a computerized system composed of watertight remote panels for easy installation in close proximity to the winch controls. Line status for all winches is shown on the main runtime screen with the calculated tension line result and additional details for active lines can be viewed by simply clicking on the screen image for each individual winch.
