Best practices of Riga Smart City IMPROVEMENT OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION MANAGEMENT IN MULTI-APARTMENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS
Advanced technical solutions which help to adjust the single-pipe system to provide for the functionalities of a two-pipe system, and, in fact, to have sufficient temperature control for ensuring comfortable temperature in all apartments.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR BUILDINGS
ICT comprise smart meters, automatic reading of consumption data and remote data transmission systems, feedback to the consumers control unit. Special online programmes are used for data analysis, thereby a long-term accumulation of data is provided.
LOCAL BIOGAS CO-GENERATION WITH HEAT UTILIZED IN THE GREENHOUSE COMPLEX
The landfill produces biogas, which is utilized in a cogeneration station. The annual quantity of produced electricity is in the range of 30-34 GWh, electricity is delivered to the power network.
USE OF PROGRAMMED LED LAMPS FOR CITY LIGHTING WITH REMOTE VOLTAGE CONTROL
LED lighting fixtures replace existing sodium lighting fixtures in certain street sections or districts. In the luminary or pole the voltage regulator has been installed for the control of each lamp with a built-in remotely controlled programmable control unit that provides the lighting level adjustment at a specific time of the day.
Best practices of Riga Smart City HEAT RECOVERY FROM FLUE GAS AND COOLING FLOWS IN ENERGY PRODUCTION PLANTS. Condensing economizers, flue gas deep cooling occurs, recovering not only flue gas physical heat, but also condensation (latent) heat. Condensing economiser is economically practicable and appropriate to install for a boiler that works in a basic mode (with constant load). In the cogeneration process, in turn, water flows are used for cooling equipment.
AUTOMATIC READING OF HEAT CONSUMPTION DATA WITH REMOTE DATA TRANSMISSION IN THE URBAN DISTRICT HEATING SYSTEM
Heat units operating in the automatic mode at end user pipe entries set and maintain the exact temperature regime of heating and hot water preparation required by each site. Smart meters for wireless remote automatic reading of consumer data using the developed base station and retranslation board network, sending data to the single dispatch centre of the district heating system.
INTRODUCTION OF E-TICKETS AND DISCOUNTS FOR SPECIFIC SOCIAL GROUPS IN THE MUNICIPAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT
E-ticket is a common electronic ticket – a cashless payment solution, provides a modern and easier payment system, introducing a common electronic ticket system in all means of city transportation and discounts for certain social groups.
DATABASE FOR MULTI-APARTMENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS IN RIGA
Based on the collected data, the actual specific heat consumption of the utilized useful space per square meter is calculated for each building. Residents of a specific building can compare the specific heat consumption of their building per year to the average specific heat consumption of a comprehensively renovated building; the result shows the actual energy efficiency level and heat costs that have been wasted due to lack of comprehensive building renovation measures.
Best practices of Riga Smart City USE OF HEAT PUMPS WITH THERMOPROBES INSTALLED BY DEEP DRILLING FOR HEAT SUPPLY TO BUILDINGS IN THE CITY
Heat pump with thermoprobes installed by deep drilling is an appropriate technology in urban territories with dense building areas, where the land available for heat pump ground circuit construction is limited. Technology is advantageous compared to the new district heating system connection construction for a remote building complex. Equipment operates automatically and is remote-controlled using ICT.
WOOD-BIOMASS FUELLED BOILER HOUSE OPERATED IN AN AUTOMATIC MODE WITH AN EFFICIENCY RATE >100%
Upgrading of heat plants by introducing new and environmentally friendly technologies, e.g. biomass fuels (woodchips) and biofuel-fired water heating boilers. The efficiency of\ the mentioned boiler block is 110% (calculated on the basis of net calorific value). By introducing the bio-fuelled technologies, it is planned to reduce the consumption of natural gas by up to 12 million m3/year.
ELECTRIC CARS FOR PROVIDING MUNICIPAL TECHNICAL SERVICES
Change financial instrument’s support for the purchase of electric cars and setting up of fast recharging stations. Several Riga City municipality departments used this opportunity to receive this co-financing, while municipal agency „Rīgas gaisma” in the framework of the provided financial support is setting up public fast recharging stations.
SOLAR BATTERIES ON THE ROOFTOPS OF BUILDINGS IN THE CITY
Solar technology complex pilot project was implemented installing combined system of solar PV batteries and solar thermal collector. The project resulted in partial replacement of the out-dated, environmentally unfriendly oil products fuelled equipment.
Best practices of Riga Smart City FACILITATION OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN HOUSEHOLDS WITH THE USE OF SMART TECHNOLOGIES
Smart electricity meters are equipped with communication interfaces for remote data reading. This makes it possible to increase the accuracy of data collection. Customers – households - are able to monitor the changes in the consumption in real time and to choose proper energy saving measures.
USE OF SOLAR PUMPS FOR HEATING
Basically, heating of the building is provided by solar collector system. Solar radiation energy is effectively utilized all year round. System efficiency is based on unused by traditional solar technologies, storage in the heat carrier tank, operating as a heat pump source or can be used for ground heat pump circuit regeneration.
WASTE WATER HEAT RECOVERY FROM MULTI-APARTMENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS
Heat recovery from waste water is suitable for buildings with a significant quantity of sewage and hot water demand. These new technologies make it possible to reduce the heat consumption for hot water preparation in the multi-apartment buildings for up to 60 %.
REMOTE READING AND TRANSMISSION OF SMART METER DATA IN POWER SUPPLY
Smart electricity meters are equipped with communication interfaces for remote data reading, this makes it possible to increase the accuracy of data collection, the time spent, as well as promptly receive reports on network damage. Customers are able to follow-up the changes in the consumption in real time and to choose proper energy saving measures.
