2. Citizenship of the European Union Citizenship of the Union
is the binding between citizens and the European Union
relationship, defined on the basis of rights, duties and political
participation of citizens. Citizenship of the Union is a dynamic
construction that has accompanied the increasing deepening of the
European integration process.
3. European union The rights of EU citizens are defined in the
Treaties but not exhausted them. In addition to these rights, there
are a number of rights and obligations arising from national
constitutions of each Member and of the fundamental rights
contained in the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental
Freedoms European Convention (Council of Europe) signed on 4
November 1950 in Rome.
4. Principles in the Treaties The principles in the Treaties
have influence on the rights and duties of European citizens, some
are of direct application: - It is prohibited all discrimination on
grounds of nationality. - Non-discrimination on grounds of sex,
racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or
sexual orientation - Member States shall ensure that the principle
of equal pay for male and female workers for equal work or work of
equal value

7. Human dignity Human Dignity is inherent to every human
being, inalienable and independent of the country.

9. Freedom: Freedom from torture; Freedom from slavery; Freedom
of speech; Freedom of thought, conscience and religion; Freedom of
movement.

11. Equality All human beings are born free and equal in
dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and
should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
12. The rule of law The rule of law is a system of rules and
rights that enables fair and functioning societies
13. Respect for human rights including the rights of people
belonging to minorities
14. Move and reside freely within the territory of the Member
States

States Any EU citizen can move, live , work and study freely
throughout the territory of the European Union .

17. Elect and be elected Every citizen of the Union has the
right to elect and to be elected in the Member State of residence
municipal elections under the same conditions as that State.

defend the common European values.
