Rihanna

Homage Does your chosen artist use other people’s music in a respectful way?

Are they bringing apotentially overlooked or forgotten style to a new audience?

I would say that Rihanna has influenced others as a young artist as she has 5 albums out already at the age of 26 years, she doesn't try to be something that she's not which a lot of musicians do to the modern day.

When Rihanna was awarded an award she was seen wearing this dress pictured on the right, this is overlooking forgotten style as she has the Charleston style in the 60’s.

S&M Video • Rihanna's new music video for S&M is not just racy, according to photographer David

LaChapelle – it's a rip-off. LaChapelle, one of the world's top fashion snappers, has filed a lawsuit against the singer, her label and video production company, alleging that S&M is "directly derived" from some of his magazine shots.

• Almost 12 million people have watched Rihanna's S&M video on YouTube since its 31 January launch, despite – or perhaps because of – it being banned in 11 countries. While the song itself has been edited for daytime radio in the UK, the video is more suggestive than pornographic, with whips, latex and the kind of sexual imagery that Madonna used in 1985. But naughtiness may not be the video's worst offence: according to a lawsuit by LaChapelle, the Melina Matsoukis-directed video was based on, and is "substantially similar to", eight of his own previously published photographs.

Brickolage • An example of Brickolage is the image below the

same pattern on the background matches Rihanna's outfit. It contrasts the artists painting through the outfit she is wearing also with the same black and white pattern on the zebra in the picture.

Intertextual references • Rihanna does quote from other songs in her music

but most artists do it and sometimes without even realising, an example of Rihanna's work doing this is one that I have found below;

Simulacrum• Rihanna I’d personally say is a real artist as she

sings about experiences and also, yes her image is important but I feel that it isn’t all about that with her she can inspire others, se can sing in all sorts of styles and is a real artist.
