1st Sunday of Lent
“It is wri en: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” M 4:10
Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, too, must decide to
turn away from worldly power and riches and put God at the center of our lives. Lent is our me to prune
ourselves of earthly things. Ask God how he is calling you to serve.

Wreaths Across America
The St. Mary's Little Hoosier Club meets once a month to learn more about the history and events going on in our great state of Indiana. In November, representatives from Wreaths Across America came to teach us about their organization. Every year, they place Christmas wreaths on Veterans' graves. We were also invited to join in the wreath laying which took place on Dec. 14. The Little Hoosier Club was proud to make a donation to WAA to purchase wreaths for this event. Thank you to Mrs. Donna Stewart (club sponsor) and the Little Hoosier members that joined in this special day to remember and honor our Veterans.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) is an age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word to be offered soon** for ages 5 through 8 (who have not received and are not currently preparing for the Sacrament of Eucharist) at the 10:00am Mass*.
No pre-registration is necessary. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The children learn about the same Scripture readings as the rest of the assembly. They are taught a main message of the readings and are encouraged to share that message with their parents after Mass. Children return to the church before the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Volunteers are needed to read the readings. This is a great opportunity for adults and jr high school/high school youth to help these eager youngsters learn the Word of the Lord.
Email: [email protected] Parish office: 812-663-8427, ext. 204 *There is possibility of offering these ministries during other Mass times in the future depending on need.
**A start date for the 10 am Mass will be announced once we have volunteers ready to begin.
Come and See! Sunday Bible Study in March! The Sunday Bible Study Group (after the 8AM Mass) invite all to come and check out our class on any or all of the Sundays in March. We will be meeting in the Small Assembly Room in March. We will be studying the Gospel reading for each of those Sundays. We will have everything you need, just show up! We are a welcoming group and would love for more parishioners to get involved in Bible Study. Just come and check it out, any questions? Call one of us! Lenten Prayer of the Week (Also available on our Facebook page.)
Merciful God, You called us forth from the dust of the earth; you claimed us for Christ in the waters of bap sm.
Bless our journey, as we walk through this Lenten season….
WE, the bap zed, who seek to live our Bap smal commitment more sincerely. Bless also, our BROTHERS and SISTERS
preparing for their Bap sm. TOGETHER,
refocusing on our Bap smal commitments, we pray for your grace, O God to work in our lives and help transform us
more into the body of Christ. O God – “Lead us to the water,
Bring us to the feast; Fill us with your Spirit
And we will be your peace. AMEN.
Lent 2020 Living Your Bap sm in Lent
“Do you reject sin so as to live in the freedom of God’s children?” Rite of Chris an Ini a on of Adults, 238
This year, during our Lenten season of PRAYER, FASTING and ALMSGIVING, we will reflect each week on one of our Bap smal promises. Easter is about
Bap sm, or about ini a on into the life of Christ. So as we walk together with our BROTHERS And SISTERS
in the RCIA program, preparing to make their Bap smal promises for the first me, we will be
preparing for the renewal of our Bap smal promises on Easter Sunday.
When Jesus started preaching, he said “Repent! The reign of God is at hand!” (Ma hew 3:2) What Jesus meant is “Turn around, you’re going the wrong way! What you’re looking for is right here. FOLLOW ME.” Thru Bap sm God claimed us as his own. We are a Child of God made in the image of God to love one another. This “journey of salva on” started at our
Bap sm and con nues every day as we try to answer Jesus’ invita on
“COME, FOLLOW ME.” *********************** Praying through the Week:
How does looking at Lent through the lens of Bap sm transform or enrich my understanding of this season?
How do my daily ac ons show that I am a child of God?
Psalm 51: 3‐10 Isaiah 1: 16‐18 Ma hew 6: 1‐8 Deuteronomy 7: 6‐9
POPE FRANCIS’ WORDS Do you want to fast this Lent?
Fast from hur ng words and say kind words. Fast from sadness and be filled with gra tude. Fast from anger and be filled with pa ence. Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope. Fast from worries and trust in God. Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity. Fast from pressures and be prayerful. Fast from bi erness and fill your heart with joy. Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to all. Fast from grudges and be reconciled. Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
FYI - LITURGY OF THE HOURS
the official daily prayer for all Catholics. (It is “not a private matter but prayers that belong to the whole Body
of the Church, whole life it both expresses and affects.”) (General Instructions of the Liturgy of the Hours, #20)
This simple quiet Evening Prayer was prayed at the
Tuesday evening Masses during the Season of Advent and it has been requested we offer these brief Evening
Prayers, once again, at our Tuesday evening Masses during the Lenten season.
O God come to my assistance .
O Lord, make haste to help me. Amen.

If you would like to take part in this devotion, please call Joan at 812-663-8427 ext 205. The Assembly’s Book of Petitions will be placed in the back of the church for your special intentions.
Have Mercy on me, God, in accord with your merciful love; in your abundant compassion blot our my transgressions.
Thoroughly wash away my guilt; and from my sin cleanse me….
Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my iniquities.
A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit.
Do not drive me from before your face, nor take from me your holy spirit.
Restore to me the gladness of your salvation; uphold me with a willing spirit.
-Psalm 51: 3-4, 11-14
Anyone who has ever a empted mountain climbing, or has even tried to walk up a steep hill, knows that it is very hard work. The disciplines of prayer, fas ng, and almsgiving that are part of our
Lenten journey help us to build our spiritual muscles to ascend the mountain to Easter. This is no easy task for Chris an disciples. But as the old
cliché says, “No pain, no gain.”
