EDITORS NOTE:

Well we are still going strong and here it is... Our final

issue for 2010! And what an amazing year it has been for

RIME Entertainment. The launch of RIME Showcase;

meeting and interviewing great artists; travelling and

meeting influential people from all over the globe;

building a successful team of writers from around the

world and getting the opportunity to go to some fantastic

gigs and review them just for you.

Our third issue is once again packed with more interviews

and more reviews.

RIME Entertainment is looking forward to another great

year for RIME Showcase and is hoping that 2011 is the

year that RIME Showcase is available to all in print and is

kept free for all to enjoy. We are very hopeful that this will

happen so let’s keep our fingers crossed that 2011 is yet

another successful year for RIME Showcase.

RIME Entertainment are off to Las Vegas for New Years to

see 30 Seconds to Mars NYE concert at the Pearl Theatre

(oh the life of an Editor never stops..)... So look out for

that review in the next issue along with much, much more

to come...

Dynasty Dancers

All-girl street dancers based in West London take some time out for all of you RIME Showcase readers to give an insight

into the Dynasty Dancers - a bunch of talented and inspirational young women indeed!!!

RIME: How did you girls form and how long have you

been dancing?

DD: Dynasty was created by me, Leanne Armstrong

aka SKYLA NIGHT, in 2009. It started off with only 3

members; me and two fellow dancers, Roxanne and

Iyanda and we performed at small charity events and

variety shows. A year later Dynasty now has 10 regular

members and are going from strength to strength;

featuring in music videos, live performances and

competitions. Most of the group have been dancing for

several years with experience in a range of styles

including street, tap, contemporary, African, Jazz and

Breakdance, but not all have formal dance training...

it’s all about passion for dance and raw talent!

RIME: Who are your influences?

DD: I’d say our influences are strong female

performers/dancers such as Kimberly Jay and artists

such as Ciara and Missy Elliot who have ‘real’ dancers

and dance routines in their videos, which rare in the

commercial scene at the moment. I am also inspired by

the creativity of groups such as Peridot, Flawless and

Boy Blue, however, Dynasty are aiming to make a

unique and individual name for ourselves with a sassy

yet high energy style...especially as all females.

RIME: What made you decide to make this into a

service for young girls?

DD: I think that young female dancers often get

overshadowed by the male dancers, especially in the

street dance genre, so I believe it’s important to provide

an arena where young women can express themselves

fully and show the dance world that we can be just as

powerful and expressive as the boys.

RIME: Do you find it easy working together? Do you

find that you have equal amounts of passion for

dance?

DD: Definitely. The group get on really well and have

bonded quite quickly. I think that’s important because

it can be reflected on stage. We have girls from all over;

Scotland, Estonia, Australia and London, all with

different experiences of dance but it hasn’t been a

problem at all! As young people we do all have other

commitments such as college, university and/or work,

so sometimes it is difficult to schedule rehearsals all

together but because we all have the same passion and

drive to make the group work, we all pull together and

make of our performances go down with a bang!

RIME: What has been the most amazing thing that’s

happened since you Dynasty Dancers started?

DD: I think the most amazing/exciting performance we

did was performing at UK Funky Live (2009) at

Wembley Arena supporting funky house singer,

Kimona. It was only two of us, me and Roxanne, but it

was a great feeling to be out there on in front of a huge

audience and live band. Another great experience

would be the filming of the professional Dynasty

promotional video. This was filmed and edited by

DanZack Motion Pictures and took a great deal of

planning and organising but really helped the group to

bond and basically show off our talents! I’m really

proud of my girls! (It is due to be released on our sites

and pages and on YouTube this month (January 2011).

RIME: What sort of interests do you have outside of

dance?

DD: When I’m off the dance floor, I’m still very

creative. I am a graphic designer, designing flyers,

business card, CD Covers and logos etc. Roxanne also

sings for Uneeque Colours Collective, Patricia is

currently studying maths, economics and psychology,

Nikki teaches dance to children and Starr works full

time in retail.

RIME: What has the support been like?

DD: Support from fellow dancers and choreographers

has been great. Other dancers know how difficult it can

be to make a name for yourself in this industry and

starting from scratch (...like we did) and potentially

competing for attention against established and popular

groups such as Boy Blue and Zoo Nation is very hard,

especially now that dance is so popular after shows

such as Got To Dance and Britain’s Got Talent.

Choreographer, Kai Williams, has also helped us with

our music and promotion. We’ve also had a lot of

support from other organisations and groups such as

The Urban Elite Team and local youth clubs such as

The Harrow Club who let us use their rehearsal space.

And last but not least, I personally have had a lot of

support from my mum. She’s always supported me

with my dreams!

RIME: What services do you run and where? (Promote

yourself)

DD: At the moment we have classes for young women

over 16 in West London (Harrow Club, Freston Road,

W10 6TH) on Mondays and Thursdays for only £4 per

Facebook - Dynasty Dance) We will also be starting

classes in South London from January...so watch this

space! These classes are for talented young women who

share a passion for dance and want to perform as well

as girls who just want to try something new for fun!

We also provide one-to-one sessions, do showcases,

backing dancing for up and coming artists and school

Meets

Embryon is all about a fusion of Classic Metal meets Modern Rock. RIME gets to know what makes Embryon who they are

today and why YOU should give them a listen...

RIME: When and how did Embryon conceive?

JC: Dave and I met at an audition for another band

and I realized he was the singer I have been looking

for ages. We had similar views and our personalities

matched and completed each other rather well so we

decided to form Embryon. We wanted Embryon to

reflect our tastes, strong melodic vocals backed up by

a mix of various rock and metal music.

Dave: the idea as to play music that was laden in

guitar riffs and heavy drums but still had those hooky

choruses that people want. As the project developed

and matured the more “techy” it became and it soon

as apparent that we were going to need a shit hot

rhythm section to pull off what we had in mind. We

scoured the land to find what JC and I was happy with

in Gazzer and Rossyboy. At this point could really

start to breathe life.

RIME: Who are your influences?

JC: Our influence range is quite broad but it

encompasses all aspect of rock from Punk (The

Damned) to heavy rock (Foo Fighters, Coheed and

Cambria ) to progressive rock (Pink Floyd, Marillion)

to metal and indie. As I told you, quite broad

RIME: What inspires you to write a song?

Jc: As far as I m concerned, I don’t write songs in a

conventional song form (music and lyrics), I’m a

musician, I write music. Maybe the unusual thing is

that most of the time I compose without the

instrument (guitar or bass or keyboard) in hands.

Music is about emotion, vibe and when I get this vibe,

the brain start to work and ideas come to me

naturally. I “hear” the music almost in its complete

form (i.e with arrangements and melodies etc…) and I

pick an instrument and record the idea straight away

as ideas can come and go in a second. If I m nowhere

near an instrument, like in the middle of the street or

at the post office for example, I grab my phone and

leave a message to my answering machine and sing

the riff or melody etc…People must think I m mad

sometimes

Then I leave the “song” rest for a while and come

back to it and see if there s anything interesting to

submit the idea to the band to start working on it.

Ross likes to put things on tape as well before

submitting them to the band. I think it s important to

come with more than notes but with a sense of the

songs is gonna sound like eventually. Dave writes

more with an acoustic guitar and build things around

vocal melody lines.

As far as lyrics are concerned, they mainly depend on

what the music inspire us. We tend to leave the lyrics

until the very last stage, once we have the music and

the melody lines worked out.

I guess we tend to put a little bit of ourselves in the

songs, a bit rebellious, cynism on society, 2nd degree,

freedom, a lot of rock n roll attitude.

RIME: Why the name Embryon?

Jc: Choosing a name for a

band is always a pain. We

wanted something short,

something that was one

recognizable name and that

could hold different

symbolic meanings.

Dave: Actually I started

drawing logos and ideas and

I came up with the idea of a

kid holding a balloon at the

fairground with a

Monster/foetus in the

balloon and that s were the

embryo came up. Jc being

French added the N

RIME: What interests do you

have outside of “Embryon”?

Dave: you sure you want to

know? That’s brave

Jc: don t provoke him

Dave: exclusively strip joints for me. With an eye on

the ladies and the other on the football game. Put a

cold lager in my hand and I m a happy man. That s all

I can say, I can t disclose the rest of my private

activities to a respectable lady.

I think Ross spends a lot of time with persons from

the opposite sex as well. As far as Gary is concerned,

we don t know. The guy is a mystery, turns up at

rehearsal and gigs and shoots as soon as it s finished

without a word. Maybe he’s mute. Are we sure Gary

is even his real name?

Jc: arts in general, sports. I’m with Dave on the non

disclosure thing. Far too educated for that.

RIME: How has the support been from the general

public?

Dave: I can honestly say the support and response

from the public has been

great. We are getting a lot

of rave reviews from

webzines about the album

all across Europe, but it’s

when we play live that our

audience responds. We

have got a kick arse rhythm

section, a cool lead guitarist

and a crazy front man,

chuck in some samples to

add the overall spectrum of

the sound and you get a

proper rock sound. What s

interesting is we appeal to

very different types of

crowds from punk, heavy

rock to indie or a wider

general rock audience.

RIME: Any future gigs

planned?

Jc: yes we have very interesting things coming up

with several shows in the UK, London and a tour in

France and other European countries but can t

disclose much as everything is still being finalized. We

expect to hit some big stages next year.

RIME: Is there an album?

Dave : Yup, the album is out. 11 tracks of raw

Embryon energy, It’s available on myspace for a listen

and all the digital download sites if you like and want

to part with your cash.

RIME: What’s does the future hold for Embryon?

Jc: we are in negotiation with labels for the

distribution of our album, we are in discussion with

big publishers and agents in the UK and Europe so we

re inviting everyone to keep watching our site for big

announcements. We are also preparing a video for

Clone that will be shot shortly and released in

September.

Dave : We have big ambitions for Embryon and we re

looking very hard to get there. We working to get a

future as bright as possible for us. Time will tell.

RIME: Any message for our readers that you would like to share? (i.e- website details, a message of

encouragement to those looking to break into the music field etc).

Jc : We would like to say thanks to all people who follow us. It’s nice to see more and more Embryon t-shirts

at our gigs.

An Interview with A.G Fielder

RIME: How long have you been writing and what inspired you to become

an author?

A.G: I have been writing for a little over 15 years. Actually, my

grandmother had read something that I’d written for the high school

newspaper, and she told me that I had a gift that I should share. She

inspired me to write poetry, fiction, non-fiction and to get into Arts &

Lifestyle journalism.

RIME: How would you describe your genre?

A.G: Well, right now I’m between genres. Mostly, I enjoy writing urban

pulp fiction, but lately I’ve been dabbling in the espionage and romance

genres.

RIME: You have had a couple of books published,

please share with our readers a little bit about them.

A.G: The first book was entitled “Baby Daddy

Drama: Let the Games Begin,” and it became a

finalist in the U.S. Best Books Competition for urban

fiction. The second book is “Black Santa: A

Christmas Story” and it is a story about an arrogant

CEO executive who falls from grace. It delves into

the notion of what would happen if a wealthy mogul

lost of his money and credibility in the music

industry. “Black Santa” is somewhat of a dark

comedy.

RIME: Who are your favourite authors?

A.G: I like Robert Greene, (“48 Laws of Power,” “The

Art of Seduction”) and Sun Tzu.

RIME: Besides writing what are your other interests?

A.G: Reading good non-fiction, cooking, listening to

quality music, and going to museums.

RIME: What are your long term ambitions? Are they

to continue as a writer or progress into another field?

A.G: To absolutely continue as a writer. I like

challenging myself by writing works with complicated

storylines.

RIME: How has the fan following been? Do you find

your books are targeting the audience you initially

set out to target or was the aim to reach as many

people as possible with your words?

A.G: The fan following has been surprisingly good. At book signings I am always pleasantly surprised as to how many fans I have. I am always thinking of ways to broaden my initial audience – so far, so good. RIME: Are your characters in your books taken from

total fantasy or do you build your characters from

certain people you’ve met in your own personal life

which add shape to the character?

A.G: A little of both. I can build a character from a

conversation with a friend, or simply from a desire

that I have. It’s the sort of thing that can often be

totally random, which is both refreshing and

challenging at the same time.

RIME: What advice would you give to our readers

who wish to become published writers?

A.G: Write what you like and write everyday. Do not

procrastinate. And don’t be afraid to take risks.

Northern Soul - A Great British Scene

Northern Soul is a term coined for the cult music and dance scene that emerged in the late 1960s in dancehalls and clubs

across Northern English cities such as Manchester, Blackpool and Wigan. Record shops in the South of England mainly sold

commercial Tamla Motown tracks to lovers of black soul music. Up North it was different. A scene emerged that prized the

soul rhythm and blues records made by obscure unknown artists on limited vinyl pressings, released by tiny independent

America record labels. Keeping in mind that true and original ‘Indie’ was a term coined for music released by small

independent labels, made popular by listeners rather than advertising and marketing hype, Northern Soul is a true ‘indie’

music.

People into the music and the scene would regularly attend nights, dressed and dancing in a distinctive style. The dress

partly evolved out of the British Mod scene, another British subculture from the 1950s, into American modern jazz music

and dressing in a certain way – smart and sharp. The Northern Soul dance style was influenced by live stage performances

of American soul acts and included spins, flips and backdrops – elements of a style which were later adopted in disco and

break dancing.

So what relevance does Northern Soul have today? In addition to its continual revival and influence within other scenes

such as Acid Jazz and House music, it is yet another example of how the UK can lay claim to a significant role in the

creation, evolution and image of lots of the great music we take for granted today. Secondly, without such a scene many

tunes loved and enjoyed by millions today would have been lost and forgotten and the world of music would be all the

poorer for it. Finally, it shows us that even more so in this digital download age, the same spirit and enthusiasm integral

within the Northern Soul scene can be used to seek out and enjoy the vast underground of obscure and interesting music

(modern and old) which exists beneath the huge belly of bland radio corporate fodder bands and artists.

Pantomime History

Pantomimes originated from Italy in the 16th century

from travelling street theatre called Commedia dell’arte.

They had characters which were known as stock

characters and each one had movements and gestures

which matched their personality. They didn’t have a

script, so they improvised instead. The stories that were

created usually made jokes out of contemporary issues

or ideas.

In the 1870s, Harlequinades no longer existed, and they

were focusing on fairy tales and nursery rhymes. The

Victorian era provided Jack and the Beanstalk and

Cinderella which proved popular.

At the Drury Lane Theatre in London, they occasionally

had 600 actors perform in one pantomime in the same

evening and they began having famous actors in the

shows.

Pantomimes also became associated with children and

Christmas and traditionally opened on Boxing Day, with

two performances on that day.

Mark Siney returns to The Thameside Theatre to play

Nurse Glucose with hilarious slapstick one liners and Kim

Taylforth (Gillian Taylforth sister) stepped into the role

of the Fairy of the forest, originally intended for Sarah

Thomas who unfortunately pulled out at the last minute.

Kim only had days to learn the script before the opening

show and did a wonderful job.

There is always a villain in the panto, and Toby Nicholls

plays the part of the evil sheriff of Nottingham with

plenty of boos and hisses.

The biggest applaud of the night, were for Postman Pat

and Jess who makes an appearance.

The panto runs until January 9th 2011.

In The Wood at Thameside Theatre, Grays, Essex

Francesca: How is the panto going so far, as you started on Fri 3rd Dec? The panto is going really well – the company gelled straight away and we are all good mates now. Most of the technical wrinkles have been sorted out and we are constantly changing the jokes to make them topical – last week it was “I’m a Celebrity”jokes – this week it will be “X factor”- next week “Come Dancing”. We do 63 performances so it should be really polished by the end of the run Francesca: Is it demanding to do two shows everyday? Yes but it’s an actor thing. You learn how to put out loads of energy with adrenaline during the show but then take it very easy between shows. You also build stamina during the run – just like any athlete training every day but against that you start wearing out so the voice is usually the first thing to go and we all dread flu during a pantomime – add to that the pressure of Christmas and difficult travel in the snow – its hard trying to get home to see family on a Christmas Eve when its snowing and you have to be back for boxing day. Francesca: What is enjoyable about being in a panto? It’s a full on experience with no let up – you have to go out and give it your all every performance – I have the biggest number of lines in this show and I also have to wear crazy woman’s clothing throughout – its not easy carrying a huge bosom around all the time if you’re not used to it. Of course you get to meet a new bunch of people every year – some stay friends and others you never see again but I really enjoy it because its what I want to do and it makes people happy so you get a buzz out of it. Francesca: Can you advise the readers of the magazine, how you got into acting? Choose rich parents! – No – only kidding – though it helps if you can borrow a few quid off somebody now and again. The fact is that acting is a vocation – there is very little money in it and it’s something you either have to do and put up with the rejections and unemployment or you decide it’s not for you, and you go and get a sensible job so you can afford a mortgage and children. To anybody who wants to act I say – “Just Act” – be in as many shows as you can do – and get involved in as many theatre and film and TV opportunities as you can manage - that will get you the experience and show your commitment and if you like it and are reasonably good at it something will come along. It also helps if you can sing a bit, dance a bit, and play a musical instrument a bit – and be willing to make tea and wash up a bit too. Francesca: Why should people choose to see Robin Hood? Because it’s the best panto story! – Oh yes it is! – Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood is a mixture of two traditional panto stories so you get two stories for one and its traditional English so lots of the themes are echoed in English Folklore. We also have a great cast of handsome heroes, beautiful maidens, and a wicked sheriff as well as me Nurse Glucose and Smiley O’Riley for the comedy elements. Also, can Postman Pat give a Christmas/New Year’s message to the readers? I’ve just asked Postman Pat and he said “Jess and I wish all your readers a very Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year and remember to post early for Christmas and use your Postcode”

Eating Healthy – Staying Fit

Helping dance students make good choices

As a studio owner, I often get asked what children should have for snacks that are healthy, but also appropriate

during their dance training. Parents have a real concern that their children are not receiving the nutrition that they

need in order to stay healthy and teachers, worry that they are not getting what they need to stay focused or reserve

energy for class time.

What they consume on a daily basis has a huge impact on how they learn, and how it will affect their overall

training. Consuming the right amount of nutrients throughout the day is essential to maintaining a healthy body and

most importantly developing a healthier way of life.

Dancers should consider eating smaller meals and snacks throughout the day. This will help to equalize the

carbohydrates in a dancer’s body which in turn will act as fuel for the multiple classes they train for. How and what

you send your dancer to the studio with will also affect their way of eating habits.

Try to aim for the most amount of nutrition when deciding on meals and snacks. Things like fruits and vegetables, a

healthy shake, low calorie granola or energy bars, yogurt or a bagel. Other ideas include popcorn, dried fruit/trail

mix, pretzels or dry cereal. Try to minimize the amount of junk food or sugary products such as chocolate bars,

chips, cookies or pop. Most importantly, avoid anything that contains nuts in case your studio has a food allergy

policy.

Be sure to always send your dancers with their own water bottle, enough to keep them hydrated for hours. Water is

the most important beverage for any dancer or athlete. Try to avoid pop or carbonated beverages at all times when

training. Stick to bottled water or even try chocolate milk which will provide you with that extra bit of protein and

calcium for your bones.

Today’s generation of dancers and kids in general have a far more rigorous schedule between school work, dance

training and the pressures to be high achievers. All of this can take a toll on them. As teachers and parents we can

help them with a little bit of effort and organization. By developing a good combination of meals, teaching them

nutritional value and how to make smart choices, we can rest assured that we are providing our children with the

energy, strength and stamina that they need. A happy dancer is a healthy dancer!

SHARES THE SUCCESS BEHIND HIS MUSICAL CRAFT

It’s hard to paint a complete picture of this DJ with just words; Joee Cons has created his

success with accelerated work and highly regarded appreciation of electronic music.

Taking musical risks in his early teens, Joee Cons sparked his desire gracing the decks and

therefore; channeling his passion in fascination with the fusion of energy created hearing

songs concurrently mixed together. “To me, House music is about unity and celebration

of life through the music. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you come from, this

music unites everyone. I remember my first introductions to this music; it was like a

whole new world. Now, House music has grown bigger than ever, with many different

sub-genres etc. but one thing has remained the same, the whole unity and celebration

of life through the music.” Beginning his aspirations in Toronto, Ontario where he is

originally from, he was determined to develop his musical and artistic endeavors and was

introduced to new events and nightclubs with the pleasure of being a part of a

Predominant House and Techno Underground mix show on CHRY 105.5 FM, known as

‘The Raw Energy Experience’ which featured international guests such as Robert Owens.

In the midst, Joee Cons passionately mixed his music

fundamentals to a higher level where he featured in

reputable nightclubs and underground scenes such as;

Club Energy, Club FX, Club 108, RPM and raves such as;

Destiny, Atlantis and Genetix introducing himself who in

turn created one of the most sought after DJ and

Producer. “My inspiration comes from a wide variety of

music and artists ranging from 80’s, classic and current

music, all the way to Techno, Tech House, House and all

other forms of electronic music.” Constantly trying to

peak his musical roots and energy level throughout, Joee

Cons released his debut single, “Get Funkee” the Top 10

hit which was successfully boasted by DJ’s worldwide, the

hype created a career status when he was later signed

with Strictly Rhythms Groovilicious Label as the first

Canadian artist. Along his musical expedition appearing at

every well known venue, he constantly remained active as

a music producer and creating captivating sets alluring

audiences internationally. “The whole music making

of a certain time in my life, both personally and as a DJ.

It’s really nice to have some of the world’s best DJ’s play

my music and to have the fans of this music digging what

you’re doing”. Prominent singles such as, Top 20 Hit -

‘Santa Monica’ (production/remix credits for The Funky

Headhunters), ‘Milkshake’ (conjunction with Saint Pete –

Perfecto Records), ‘Fuma’ (conjunction with M1 – Matteo

Di Marr) – became a tribal house hit signed to Stay

True/Brique Rouge in France. His rising talent continues to

unfold in 2006 with a remix of ‘Carlo Lio’ – ‘Everybody’

that was supported by the infamous ‘Carl Cox’ and

opened a whole new world with fresh remixes such as;

‘Let’s Play’ – Daggard & Morraine , ‘Twisted Mind’ – Boza

and ‘Industry’ – Greg Gow. “I would have to say Carl Cox

is one of my favorite DJs. I think he represents this music

in its truest form”. Joee’s passion and innovative

approach accomplished an anticipated single ‘Don’t Stop’

in 2008 that was released and presented on ‘Canada’s

Finest House Compilation’. Always differentiating him self

from the pack, within the same year he released rising

singles such as; ‘Futura’, ‘Logical Transfer’ and ‘Butterfly’.

Following in 2009, he released his dynamic and

overflowing singles ‘Love Hate’ on MAR186 and ‘Carousel’

on Teggno. “It's hard to pick a favorite, but tracks like

Don't Stop, Love Hate, In the Dark and Automatik are all

up there. Believe it or not every song has a meaning or

story behind it”. This talented and accomplished DJ has

shown more to his fans than just his ingenious hooks.

dynamic and overflowing energy in venues within Canada,

U.S and Mexico. Spinning his successes at clubs such as;

The Guvernment, This is London, Comfort Zone, Footwork

and Cobra. “Over the years, I’ve had a lot of amazing

gigs. Some shows that come to mind are, World cup

victory party in 2004 with over 25,000 people dancing in

front of me. Playing the shows with Deadmau5, Mark

Knight and Joris Voorn were all pretty special too. I really

like playing in Toronto at places like The Guvernment,

This is London and Comfort Zone. Toronto is really such

an amazing city for electronic music. Playing the smaller

cities are always nice too; they are very reminiscent to

the early days. Playing in the warmer climates like Miami

and Mexico are always a great vibe as well”. His years of

inspiration and upbringing towards his career has shown

off more than just his signature style that his music led

him to play with artists such as Mark Knight, Sharam,

Deadmau5, Joris Voorn, Funkagenda and Sander

Kleinenberg. “The best part is the people. I’ve had the

opportunity to meet some really great like minded

individuals. The people that see you play have such a

huge impact; they are really part of what you are doing.

The music we make is very technology and studio based,

the interaction gives it a really unique human feel. The

worst part is being away from your personal life.

Concluding one of the most recent developments for 2010

was releasing the techno tracks, ‘In the Dark’ which

landed a place on the Beatport.com chart along with his

first vocal track, ‘Fine Day’ featuring the harmonious voice

from ‘Jaclyn’ (compilation – Canada’s Finest Vol. 2), ‘Uno

Dos Tres’ and ‘Automatik’ which was ranked in Top 10 on

Nowtrax gaining support from fans internationally. “I’m

currently in the studio working on tracks for my next EP

for MAR186, as well as new tracks coming on other

labels. I also have remixes coming out on Local Music

and DBR Recordings. Good people, good music and good

times motivate me. I also have some pretty exciting gigs

coming up including the Conscept parties, NYE, NYD and

the BPM Festival in Mexico, as well as some amazing

events and residencies lined up for 2011.” Practicing his

musical craft, Joee Cons delivers sophisticated simplicity

J – WORM aka Jimothy Rockwelll is an Artist to watch out for. From

Yuma, Arizona, Worm brings a Hip-Hop sound with excellent,

meaningful lyrics. RIME believes this Emcee is destined for greatness...

RIME: What made you get into Hip-Hop and what’s the story behind the name ‘Worm’?

WORM: Well, my earliest memory of getting into hip hop was when I heard my Pops, Uncle Chris & Uncle Tony (R.I.P.) bumpin’ the Beastie Boys’ “License To ILL”. From then on I was hooked. They always played the hottest tapes at the time. So, from a young age I had an ear for it. Not to mention “Yo! Mtv Raps” played the fly videos ha. But I didn’t start spittin until many years down the road. As far as my name goes, my boy Matt Lohrenz aka PLAN B (R.I.P.) gave it to me. We were sitting around one day and it came to him while drippin soda on the paper of a straw...He said “I’ve got it...J-Worm” hahaha so lame, right. But I

cherish it because he gave me the name. Plus it’s an acronym for Just Working On Real Music J

RIME: Who are your inspirations? Who did you grow- up listening to?

WORM: My inspirations are a lot to name haha. I have inspirations from musicians to family members to good friends to everyday people that I’ve never met & are living their lives to the fullest. Inspiration to me is sparked from day to day events in life. Growing up I listened to different genres of music...Everything from reggae, alternative & grunge rock, jazz and of course Hip Hop. I can’t really list or narrow down all the artists I pushed into my ears haha.

RIME: Why do you call yourself an Emcee rather than a Rapper, is there a difference?

WORM: When I hear the name Emcee I automatically think of Hip Hop and the essence of the culture. Therefore, I consider myself hip hop aka an emcee. The 2 go hand in hand..Hip Hop is emceeing and emceeing is Hip Hop. The word rapper to me is something that the mass media invented to down play our culture. So, that word ain’t nothin to me. Haha.

RIME: What do you emcee about, where does the juice of your words come from?

WORM: I like to emcee or write about many different subjects/concepts. I can write about how my best friend passed away 2 years ago, how I hate my job or just whatever is on my mind at the moment. Everyday life sparks “juice” for me to write. To me the best writing or “juice” of words comes from being honest & creative. Creativity is very scarce nowadays. It’s sad.

RIME: What has the response been like towards you and your lyrics?

WORM: Ya know, surprisingly I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on my music, which is always a nice surprise but mostly a surprise haha. But there’s always those out there who love to hate you because they don’t love themselves haha. It’s like they get off on being naysayers and Worm haters...ha. In one ear and out the other though, right? But on the real, I wanna thank everyone that has supported from the get go. It’s much appreciated and I love you guys. Even the people that I haven’t met and you dig my stuff... THANK YOU!

RIME: How often do you write lyrics, do you have a plan like every week you want to write a set of lyrics or do you just let it flow and write whenever you’re inspired?

WORM: Usually just write as much as possible. But the majority of the time it’s sparked from a new beat that I’m given or when I’ve been touched by inspiration. There’s times when I’ll jot down a few bars on a post it note that just popped into my head. I literally have hundreds upon hundreds of post it notes in a shoe box. Haha It’s a beautiful mess.

RIME: Who have been the most encouraging in your career?

WORM: First and foremost my best friend PLAN B was the one who always encouraged me to start making music. From the beginning that dude would try to get me to freestyle at parties or at random get togethers. He was never hesitant to jump into a cypher because that guy was so dope at his craft. He pushed and encouraged me up until the day he passed. He always told me that I was gonna be an iLL emcee. I didn’t think so though haha... I still don’t think so haha. PLAN had my back...always have and always will. But my family and friends have been huge supporters. They’ve given me nothing but love & encouragement.

RIME: Where do you see yourself in 5yrs time? Is there an album coming out?

WORM: 5 years from now hopefully I’ll be touring my ass off. Rockin stages across the U.S. and over in Europe!! That would be my ultimate high. Getting the music out there to the people live on stage. As for albums, there’s quite a few that I’m involved with. My crew BoomBox Typical (which is Plan B,StickUp, Grease Monkey and myself) is FINALLY droppin our 1st album titled “Boom Bap for Bobbleheads”, keep your eyes peeled. I have some side projects that are droppin soon like “J-Worm & Mobrobb Present: The Nocturnal Association Vol. 1”, The Coalition (what up Jo Blunt, Dangerous and Spit Lyrics) “Lateral Trade” and a solo EP spittin over Beta 7 beats that I’m calling “Just Workin On Real Music” Ep. So tons music for you guys to listen for. I promise you that it’s good stuff, no BS.

RIME: Do you have any upcoming gigs?

Ne-Yo – Libra Scale Label: Def Jam Genre: R&B/Hip Hop Released: Rating:

Let‟s „toast it up‟ to Ne-Yo‟s champagne life, “where trouble is a bubble in the champagne glass, Dreams and reality are one and the same”. Libra Scale,

which is the fourth studio album since „Year of the Gentleman‟ that was inspired by three influences (according to Ne-Yo), his desire to do something

different, interest in science fiction, comic books and Japanese animation as well as, the inspiration of the late Michael Jackson. With such influences, Ne-

Yo chose to develop a series of six extended music videos intended to re - create a film that he wrote that in turn, each track was inspired by. The concept

questions morality and both sides of the „Libra Scale‟ between decisions from money, fame, power and love. The first official single, „Beautiful Monster‟ is an

up-tempo club cut who was collaborated with StarGate, the exquisite mind behind the hit single „Closer‟. It produces lyrical edg iness such as, “You‟re a knife

that‟s sharp and deadly and it‟s me that you cut into, But I don‟t mind, In fact I like it, Though I‟m terrified, I‟m turned on but scared of you” reclaiming the

musical blends from „Closer‟ the song shows off fierce beats that screams sex appeal. „One in a Million‟ is the third single off the album, slowing it down to a

charming soulful R&B jam. “Been all over the world, Done a little bit of everything, Little bit of everywhere, With a little bit of everyone, All the girls I‟ve been

Bruno Mars – Doo Wops & Hooligans

This full – length album from Bruno Mars was eagerly awaited since his last EP „It‟s better if you don‟t understand‟- which contained songs that are included

in „Doo Wops & Hooligans‟ such as, „Talking to the Moon‟, „Count on Me‟ and „The other Side‟ featuring Cee Lo, Green and B.O.B. Being part of the most

pursued writing team that produced this album - „The Smeezingtons‟, Bruno was introduced and known for singing and co writing the lead infectious chorus

on „Nothin‟ on You‟ – B.O.B and „Billionaire‟ – Travie McCoy. For this Hawaiian American singer, it‟s that voice that grabs your attention right from the get

go. “On this album, I have records that women are going to relate too and men are going to relate too. So, „Doo-Wops‟ are for the girls and „Hooligans‟ are

for the guys” - described from Bruno in an interview with Idolater Magazine. One of the promotional singles released prior the album, „Liquor Store Blue‟s‟

feat Damian Marley - shows a prime example of what Bruno claims as „Hooligans‟. Delivering authentic reggae beats with a piece of Jamaican edge about

smoking and drinking away depression, Bruno vocalizes, „I‟ll take one shot for my pain, One drag for my sorrow. Get messed up today, I‟ll be okay

tomorrow”. Accompanying what Bruno was aiming for as „Doo-Wop‟, songs such as „Talking to the Moon‟, „Marry Me‟ and „Count on Me‟ exposes seductive

vocals and a bit of vulnerability. „Grenade‟ the first introductory track on the album became another promotional single that accentuates an R&B delivery with

a lyrical picture of a victim battling heartache. Overall, I can truthfully say that this album blends soft vocals, a modern radio vibe and dreamy wistfulness into

a relaxing sway of music, we can‟t deny that even though Mars has been arrested for cocaine possession, his beautiful ballad and hit single „Just the Way

You Are” topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Then again, with such a sweet sound what‟s not to love? A well formulated album and what‟s perceived as

phenomenal talent. He‟s on the road to something far more than just a capable artist and this album is yet another step away from being one of the most

sought artists of this era.

Black Eyed Peas – The Beginning Label: Interscope Genre: Electro Pop, Funky House, Alternative Hip-Hop Released: November 26, 2010 Rating:

The Black Eyed Peas introduce us to their newest offering – the Beginning, described as a sequel to „The E.N.D‟ which according to Will.i.am symbolizes

„growth, new beginnings and starts a fresh new perspective‟. “It‟s about experimental and playing around with sick, crazy beats” – Will.i.am boasts about the

new album. Indeed, this album stands true to its title, creating a compilation similar to the 2009‟s enormously successful – The E.N.D but with more heavily

electronic beats and bright synth parts. It‟s definitely a busy record with a moodier listening experience. The first single, „The time (dirty bit)‟ which is a spin

off of the 1987 Pop classic – „Time of my life‟ – Jennifer Warnes & Bill Medley‟s (Dirty Dancing) which sounded a bit processed and diced but yet all

furthering the goal of an endless radio hit. „Do it like this‟ was released as a teaser has potential to become a dance-floor filler and therefore, „Don‟t Stop the

Party‟ is a classical mash. It should be no surprise that teaming up with David Guetta has brought them more success with another single „Just Can‟t Get

Enough‟ followed by catchiness and minimal electro. Every song glistens sticky pop melodies and hip hop rhythms but in reality just consistently coming up

with stuff that‟s this infectious is harder than it looks. The Peas may have not dramatically outdone what was expected to be this fresh new beginning but

they did succeed on keeping the connection with their fans and striving for more than just electronic splendor.

Rihanna – LOUD Label: Def Jam Genre: Po/R&B/Dance-Pop Released: November 12, 2010 Rating:

„Oh na-na-na what‟s my name?‟ – I anticipated the very moment this album was released; although I was sure from her first single that I‟d love it. Loud –

being her fifth studio album is a commercial success. This 22 year old embraced her personal style and flaunted her brilliant vocals. Definitely an album that

defines who she is, receiving positive views from critics and of course fans worldwide. A compilation of pure bliss, Rihanna experimented with her musical

roots creating international success with songs such as; „What‟s My Name‟ feat Drake and „Only Girl In The World‟.

The two singles became a number one hit in the U.S upon release that concludes this is Rihanna‟s year. Loud – marks a new beginning for this artist

showing her dedication to overcome her difficult battles over the past year. Rihanna collaborated with several producers such as, StarGate, The Runners,

Polow da Don, Tricky Stewart, Alex da Kid as well as many more. “On the first page of our story the future seemed so bright, then this thing turned out so

evil, I don‟t know why I‟m still surprised even angels have their wicked schemes” – lyrics from „Love the way you lie Part 2‟ featuring Eminem a spin off of the

original „Love the way you Lie‟ is an emotional ballad with depth. Furthermore, this album states that Rihanna hasn‟t lost her spark, offering club orientated

songs and urban electro beats. “Life‟s too short to be sitting around miserable, People gonna talk whether you doing bad or good” – „Cheers (Drink To

That)‟. Agreeing with such a bold statement and yet concluded that Rihanna has nothing to worry about, I cheers to her accomp lished stepping stones and

her artistic and musical growth that this album boasts. „Loud‟ draws you to this artists reliable and reputable flare, it‟s a must a buy!

My Chemical Romance – Danger Days: True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys Label: Warner Bros. Records Genre: Rock/Punk/Pop Released: November 2010 Rating:

Well all I can say is welcome back MCR, boy have I missed you. They kicked off with a great concert in October and re-ignited us

with their tracks from previous their previous albums like I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, Three Cheers for

Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade and now Danger Days: True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys.

When I first popped the CD on, I was expecting absolute craziness and a lot of “release”, however, BIG DIFFERENCE!

This album I believe has a little something for all – great melody, great guitar riffs, a bit of slow, a bit of Electro-dance and some

great head banging tunes. It’s very different to their usual songs but this album is definitely one to have in the collection and one

to blast out. I am looking forward to seeing what they have to bring to MCR fans for the next 10 years – I think we’re in for a real

treat!

Monsters If you are looking for a thrilling, all-star cast, special-effects laden horror/sci-fi blockbuster, then this is not the film for you. Basically a road movie of sorts, we follow a couple thrown together to make the perilous journey through ‘the infected zone’, a massive area in Central America that is inhabited by ETs. The special effects are minimal and sadly so is the presence of any real

tension, sympathy for the characters or even a hook to make you want to keep watching. I actually felt quite let down by it.

Many other film-makers have succeeded in making very scary films on a low budget, but to me this one just does not work on

any level!

The more I think about this film, the more confused I feel about it. I’ve started to read lots of hidden meanings into it in an

attempt to make sense of it.

It turned the tables on the usual situation of Mexicans buying passage into America, with the main (American) female

character using her engagement ring as payment for their transport into America.

I also wondered if situations between the ‘monsters’ (fighting their enemies in a hostile alien land) and US troops abroad were

intentional or imagined on my part.

What is interesting is that after seeing the film I found out that the lead characters are a couple in reality, deliberately chosen as a couple to add to the realism. Strange as I actually thought they weren’t believable together...Sorry! I felt their relationship was rushed and unconvincing...Beyond that though my main problem was that I was constantly distracted by the leading lady’s uncanny resemblance to Cameron Diaz. Now I have heard it said that this film is going to become a cult classic...well if it does I really will struggle to see why!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) Now I have to state at the outset that I may be a little biased with my review here – I loved the

books and I loved the previous films (well most of them!)

This instalment of the series sees Harry, Ron and Hermione going off in search of the remaining

Horcruxes which each contain part of arch-enemy Voldemorts soul and need to be destroyed if

he is to be defeated.

Early in the film there are some very funny moments, where I think Daniel Radcliffe earned his

money!

The story gets moving quickly and is fast paced throughout. My initial disappointment with the

book being split into 2 films rapidly evaporated, as I feel such a good job was done. I also now

get the pleasure of one more fix before the series is complete!

The film felt fresh being set entirely away from Hogwarts and it definitely has a more mature edge to it than the earlier films,

obviously matching the aging of the characters. I was delighted in seeing the development of Ron and Hermione’s relationship

and generally enjoyed the film very much.

I would definitely recommend this film to fans, not sure if it would make much sense to anyone that hadn’t either read the books

or seen the previous films though.

Camille (The Lady of the Camellias)

This timeless classic, first published in France in 1848, is a tale of love and

tragedy. Written by Alexandre Dumas fils, it tells the tale of a young man,

Armand Duval, and the love he has for a young courtesan, Marguerite Gautier.

Dumas fils wrote this novel in three weeks following the death of his mistress

Marie Duplessis, on whom the story is inspired. This book was made into a play

and soon after Giuseppe Verdi based his opera, La Traviata on it.

Originally called La dame aux Camélias, the book starts its tale with the funeral

of Marguerite Gautier. From this point on it is known that there is no happy

ending as it is stated by the narrator that she died at a young age. The narrator

throughout the book is a gentleman whom, in the beginning, stumbles across

the sales of Marguerite Gautier’s possessions after her death. He is then drawn

into this narrative as the confidant to Armand Duval. The pair meets after the

narrator purchases a book in the auction of Marguerite’s possessions which

Armand had given to her.

The novel is a bittersweet tale of love, betrayal and responsibility. It is based on the love that author Dumas fils had with his

mistress Marie Duplessis before her lifestyle as a courtesan caused her to die young. It conveys the message that love can

make you do anything to hold onto it, but also the sad truth that love is not always enough. It takes the old opinions of class

and whom an individual is supposed to associate with, and pitches it against true passion and desire.

This in my opinion is one of the best books of its time. Showing that as a classic, it is as timeless as love itself.

‘Room’ by Emma Donoghue

A young woman abducted from the street has spent the last seven years of her life hostage in an eleven foot by eleven foot cell built by her kidnapper. That cell is Room. For five of those years she has been accompanied by her son Jack who knows nothing of the outside and believes him and his Ma are all that exist of the real world. Fiction echoing fact, this novel is exceptional. I have not been so impressed and affected since ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’. The endearing naivety of Jack alongside his unique view of the world makes for a character you won’t want to forget, let alone be able to. Ma’s determination to provide her son with the best life possible is admirable and yet the

author strives to portray her flaws in order to emphasise her humanity.

This is a book not so much about a crime itself but the effects of such a profound crime upon a

completely normal, ordinary person. We know very little about the abductor himself, the author

seems to deliberately avoid putting too much focus on him.

Finding a weakness within this book is a struggle. The only issue I really had was that at the pinnacle of the novel, the pivotal

point, I was too excited to read the incredibly detailed description and had to race ahead but let’s face it, that’s not really a

weakness.

If I were to say one thing about this novel it would be: buy it and add it to the list of your all time favourite books.

Writer’s Spotlight

Noel Farrell began writing full time 18 months ago when he was laid off from

his job in the Construction Industry. Having spent months creating a character called Don Booker and setting up the blog, The Writing Life & Other Absurdities, Noel began writing his debut novel, Booker's World. Writing commenced in August 2009 and the book was finished July, 2010. It will be published in January 2010. Booker's World is a coming-of-age novel set against the backdrop of the working class people in recessionary Ireland. The book focuses on Don Booker, as he weaves a path forward in his life as he approaches 40 as he comes to terms with his best friends suicide. Strong social themes are explored throughout but Farrell utilises Booker's wit in his own unique way. A prelude to the novel is available for download from this weekend. Details can be found at Farrell's regularly updated blog. The short novella introduces a second of Farrell's recessionary characters, Sonny Strange to the world. Sonny Strange, A Motivational Memoir in Minor, tells the story of a man caught up in the world of Motivation in Ireland as he tries to dig himself out of his own particular life hole. Farrell will introduce both characters via a web series in early 2011 and pick up where both books leave off. YOUNGHEARTS

When I met the lads from ‘Younghearts’, in the flesh I had a feeling as though I had just been transported back in time. They come across as belonging to a different era. This matched the feeling I had had when I checked out their music prior to the gig. Their music style and sound is far removed from all the manufactured noise that we hear a lot of today. I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with them for an interview prior to the gig. Too escape the crowds we ended up just across from the Finsbury Park bus stop near ‘The Silver Bullet’. The four of us sat in a row and chatted about their music, hopes and dreams. Ironically this is exactly how ‘Younghearts’ came about. They told me the story of how Hugo had met Joe at a bus stop in 2008, on route to a house party. At the time Joe had no where to stay and was in the city alone. Hugo had let Joe live on a mattress in his kitchen. The two became friends and it was through this encounter that ‘Younghearts’ was formed. In the summer of 2010, the line-up was completed when Erick who was originally only visiting London, joined the band after meeting Hugo by chance. So you could say fate fused their talent. ‘Younghearts’ features, Italian-Brazilian Joe Fox on Vocals/Guitar, Austrian Englishman Hugo Ede on Bass Guitar and Frenchman Erick Antoine on Drums. Although they are listed as ‘Rock’ their music without doubt spans wider genres. They describe their sound as having the melodic promise of early Nirvana/Replacements/Green Day, where grungy guitars fight over pretty melodies. In one word ‘Unique’.

We spoke about their plans and I asked them what they had recorded so far and how often they rehearse. The guys explained that Erick has a home studio where they record and rehearse. For the last 6 months, they have been rehearsing nonstop, everyday. They now plan to start performing at gigs on a regular basis in and around London. After the interview we headed back to the venue and I took my place to listen to the other guest bands, ‘MOVE’ and ‘Look Stranger’. Both of which gave emotional, interactive performances. ‘MOVE’ who I instantly loved, originate from Australia, they have a grassroots/rustic rock sound which leaves you wanting more. ‘Younghearts’ opened their set with ‘Drink Repeat Cycle’. I had seen them perform online, but seeing them live was incredible. Their energy combined with their powerful original lyrics definitely ticked all the boxes. They also played ‘Isolation’ followed by another original called ‘White Letter’, which is one of my favourites so far. They epitomise style and have an amazing connection with each other, which comes through into their music. Erick has extreme passion in his play, he zones out completely engulfing himself into every beat, taking the audience with him on a journey through each song. Joe delivered an amazing vocal. When he sings his voice has an almost hypnotic tone, which captivates. Taking you too that ’Happy place’. His love for music is evident, and he plays the guitar as an extension of himself. Hugo is cooler than cool. He plays the guitar with magnificent skill and effortless style. He has an incredibly distinctive look as do Joe and Erick and when combined with their inimitable sound blends into something beautiful when they perform. Considering their combined musical experience totals approximately 15 years, the quality and professionalism of their performance is astounding. They possess raw natural talent which was very refreshing to watch. Their sound is pure and oozes passion. In my humble opinion they could record a completely marketable album tomorrow. I would definitely like to see more from ‘Younghearts’ in the future. When I asked Joe, what their plans were for 2011, he replied ‘TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!’ Well be careful what you wish for ~ as they say WORDS BECOME REALITY! SET LIST: 1. Drink Repeat Cycle 2. Setlist for the night: Escape Night of The Hunter A Beautiful Lie Attack Search and Destroy Vox Populi This is War 100 Suns Snow finally arrived in London along with the leaders of the Echelon. The night that RIME Entertainment had been waiting for after seeing them in concert for the first time back in February was finally here and the weather wasn’t going to put a dampener on it. After having a bite to eat and hanging out in the bar and finding out

that the band were coming on stage at 9.15pm, we decided to head to our seats and check out the supporting acts. The first of two support acts were Funeral Party. A band from Los Angeles, this was the first time I had heard of them or heard any of their stuff and I must admit I was impressed. I would describe Funeral Party’s sound as The Ordinary Boys meets The Killers. They had a great energy and were a great choice to warm up the crowd. The second support act for the night was Enter Shikari. A band from the UK. When I first heard that Enter Shikari were supporting 30STM I was a little disappointed as a couple of snippets of their songs that I had heard didn’t appeal to me and I was seriously thinking of missing the support acts altogether; but fate stepped in and I sat in my seat and watched the crowd go mental for the band. They had a lot of fans in the audience and after much resistance; I would have to honestly admit that I was more than impressed with Enter Shikari. The lyrics and the way the band worked the crowd, made the music come alive to me and apart from the flashing light in my eyes (warning for those who suffer from photo light sensitive epilepsy) they smashed it! After their performance I wanted to know more about the band and give another (open minded) listen to their music. Enter Shikari you guys did a great job and I’m sure you’ll be headlining the O2 very soon. During the interval before the main event, the RIME team found ourselves running back to our seats for the premiere of the long awaited new video for 30STM new single ‘Hurricane’. This was the censored version unfortunately. What did RIME Showcase think of the video? You can find out in our reviews section of this issue. We were all warmed up now and ready for the guys to come on stage. The white curtain was set, the Triad was on stage and the lights went down and the screams began.. The guys began with Escape..Singer Jared Leto’s voice echoed the arena but not to be found on stage...where was he?? Towards the back of the arena sporting yet another coloured hair do (which we love him for). For the next 2 hours the whole arena was alive. The band played all the greats that made them who they are today; and Tomo and Shannon who complete the triad wowed us again with their talent on guitar and drums adding to the excellent vocals of Jared, who was on top form with his singing. Jared never failed to keep the audience entertained and made sure everyone was on their feet jumping and enjoying the night. The highlight of the night for me was when Jared spotted a couple who were not standing up and got them standing when he put them under the spotlight (check out RIME Entertainment’s video for Search and Destroy including this footage below). Once again 30STM never failed to unite the Echelon with their talent and energy and proved to all that no matter how old you are or where you are in your life at this moment there is something magical and spectacular about 30STM that will get you joining the Echelon in no time. more than 4:00 per game. Therefore, leading the league with three short handed markers is

game for short handed time on ice is Mark Green. Although, Alex Ovechkin's average is 0:01 per

8. Minnesota – 86.4 percent -Averaging more than 3:00 per game are a total of four blueliners

and five forwards average a little over 2:00 while center John Madden leads among forwards at

3:32.

7. Detroit – 87 percent -Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg average 1:06 and 0:44 of short

IN MEMORY OF PAT BURNS

“For those who know me well, I’ve never backed down from any fight…And I’m not going to back down from this one” — Pat Burns

Pat Burns was an icon in the world of hockey and impacted so many by spending his life

dedicated to the game. His endeavors speak for itself, with over fifteen years of NHL

coaching with teams such as; Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins,

and the New Jersey Devils where he in total conquered 501 wins. He won the Jack Adams

award three times coaching three different teams and won a Stanley cup with the New

Jersey Devils one year before being diagnosed with cancer. Battling through three

types of cancers over a six year time frame, Pat Burns recently was given the privilege

of having an arena in Stanstead being named in his honor for his influential contribution

to the youth in the regions. On November 19th, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, at the maison Aube

– Luiere, Pat passed away due to colon cancer which eventually spread to his lungs. He

will continue to make the years of NHL more than memorable and will live on in the game

of hockey. With the upmost respect and recognition for this man, he will truly be missed.

Regina‟s hockey player to face murder trial in Wisconsin

Jared Britton is one of the two former hockey players at the University of Wisconsin-Stout who has been

charged in the death of Bradley Simon. The student was alleged of shoving the 22 year old Bradley Simon

while he was riding his bike outside the University campus bar on September 18th. Simon struck his head on a

cement wall and died in the hospital a few days later. Britton and 21 year old co – accused Jed McGlasson of

Alaska were charged with being party to a felony murder and battery. They will both return to court

December 13th.

Owner of Buffalo Sabres undecided on selling team

Tom Gosilano has not yet decided whether or not to sell the NHL franchise. The candidate, Terry Pegula is

hoping that Gosilano takes the offer with „serious consideration‟. Gosilano has declined any comments since

the reports surfaced this week of Pegula‟s bid to buy the sabres

Maclean Magazine names Crosby – the newsmaker of the year

Sidney Crosby is Maclean‟s raving favorite. They have chosen the 23 year old Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia

native as they‟re newsmaker of the year. The Pittsburgh Penguins player was a hero at the Vancouver Winter

games in 2010 winning the gold medal for U.S. The magazine states Crosby‟s overtime goal was on a “higher

plane than the wars, natural disasters and political upheavals of 2010”.

Valuables stolen at Burns funeral with pleads of return

The burns family is pleading for the return of cherished photos, a stack of hockey jerseys signed by NHL

stars and credit cards of the late, Stanley cup winning coach. Theives smashed a window on his family‟s SUV

and stole personal belongings that were intended to be auctioned for charity. The family is urging the

thieves to return the items – especially the jerseys. “it‟s a good thing to bring it back so we can do the job we

wanted to do with the jerseys” stated the late coach‟s son, Jason burns quoted with the Canadian Press.

Hockey hall of Fame writer – Jim Kelley passes away

A long time sports writer and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame has died after a long battle with cancer at

the age of 61. Kelley was a hockey columnist on Rogers Sports net‟s website and a broadcaster on all sports

radio stations. Steve jones, buffalo news sports editor confirmed that Kelley died Tuesday at the Buffalo

General Hospital.

Convicted sex offender – Coach Graham James seeks bail

The 58 year old James Graham is accused of sexual assault, gross indecency and other offences within1979-

1994. Theo Fleury is stated to be one of the accusers whom stated in his autobiography (published last year)

that James started the abuse with him at the age of fourteen. A bail application hearing has been sent in

provincial court for James, who until then has been held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre after turning

himself in.
