T h a n k Y o u !

To My Church Family,

Thank You!!! How special each of you are to

me. Thanks to each and every one of you for

all the prayers, the phone calls and the many

cards that I received. I never knew how blessed

I am at Trinity. Each day I get better and better

and now realize how sick I was.

I missed all of you when I needed to stay at

home, but when I was released after the 3

months, I have been going to lots of places. It

has been almost 5 months and now on my

August birthday, I will celebrate 6 months of a

new life. God has truly blessed me with a

wonderful gift of a new kidney.

Thanks to all of you!

Love,

Carolyn Pennington

To All My Ever-loving Church Family,

“God shows His love through the warmth

and kindness of special people like you.”

Thank you for the beautiful flowers from

Annabelle Noblit’s family. Also, to all of you for

the phone calls, visits and prayers.

Love and friendship always,

Alice Earl

Dear McCutchenville Trinity UCC,

Thank you so much for your support of

contribution in Mom’s name. Your thoughts

and prayers meant so much to us.

Norman Noblit & Family

Trinity UCC,

Thank you for taking the time to put

together such a fun Vacation Bible School event

this past week. Karlee had so much fun and

hasn’t stopped talking about it since Sunday!

S p e c i a l T h a n k s !

To … our summer greeters, Nira Beaschler, Elaine Kern, and Dan McClain.

To … all the VBS volunteers who gave their time and energy to help with the VBS program, ROAR! A big thank you as well to everyone who supported VBS in so many ways. We could not have had such a successful VBS program without everyone’s help and involvement. Finally, thank you for everyone’s monetary contributions to the VBS Mission Project of providing clean water to impoverished communities around the world through Heifer International. One water pump for a community costs $300. During VBS week, the children brought in $206.13, just a little short of providing the second water pump. However, thanks to the generosity of the people of Trinity and Sycamore UCC churches, additional donations were given. We collected a grand total of $900 in donations allowing the purchase of 3 water irrigation pumps to provide clean water to impoverished communities because of YOUR generosity and kindness! Thank you so much!!

To … Harry Traxler, Dale Pennington, Dan Cleland and Carolyn Pennington for representing Trinity UCC for the Small Church Cluster by working the Seneca County Fair gates.

To … those who contributed to the Noisy Bucket Collection for a future community worship service. We collected $119.00.

To …Former pastor of Trinity, Rev. Don Nichols, for donating a binder full of newspaper articles he collected about the people of Trinity during his term (1965-1969) at Trinity. If you have not yet had a chance to see these articles, the book is in the overflow room for your viewing. Feel free to stop by and reminisce.

To … Carol Hipsher & Linda Gottfried for organizing and collecting information for our in-house contact directory (without photos) to be published later this year. (see attachment)

To … Linda Gottfried who so diligently cared for the flowers in the memory gardens around the church this summer deadheading, fertilizing, hoeing, pulling weeds, and transplanting. Your hard work is very much appreciated!

To … Jannie Snyder for donating her beautiful rocker to the church.

To …Sharon & Roger McGuire, all the Lawn Fete committees, to those who brought or gave donations, and to those who supported our Lawn Fete in so many ways. A special thanks from Bob & Barb Plott to the kids for their help busing tables!! The Lawn Fete generated a profit of $1,128.50, thanks to everyone’s efforts.

To … those who donated refreshments for the September American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

To… those who contributed items for the Blessing Bags for the Homeless.

~ Prayer Requests ~ Jim Beidelschies, Doris Flack, Kenny Ames, and to our Homebound: Phyll Barth, Sylvia Bishop, Alice Earl, Colleen Shaffer, and Maxine Weininger. And those known and those known only to God who are homebound… hospitalized… those who are undergoing treatments… surgeries… and those with illnesses… and hurting spirits… and to all others who struggle and suffer in our world.

Wedding Invitation

You are invited to attend the wedding of Rachel Pennington and Kevin Wertz on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Music begins at 3:00 p.m. with the

ceremony at 3:30 p.m. The outdoor wedding will be held at White Shutter, 3794 County Highway 56 in Nevada. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors. A reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds in Upper Sandusky. Please RSVP by September 18 to the couple’s website, www.theknot.com/us/wertzwedding19, or contact Jan and Dale Pennington (419-981-5808) to let them know you are able to come.

Stained-glass Window Renovation Project Step one of two has been completed on the front stained-glass window, removing the old storm glass covering as well as replacing and painting the new wood. What an improvement! Windows

Creation is now constructing the exterior aluminum frame glass storm window, which will include special venting to help prevent excessive heat buildup between the glass. This will help to extend the life of the stained-glass window. Installation of the storm window will occur sometime in September.

Jersey Sunday September 8th

We are getting

ready to “kick off” our fall activities here at Trinity and invite everyone to celebrate on September 8th by wearing any type of a sports jersey or shirt for any sports, whether it be high school, college, pro, etc., to church that Sunday. Following worship, refreshments will be served.

Included in this newsletter, you will read about the “kick off” of Children’s Sunday School, Acolyte training, Confirmation class, Bible Study, an Adult Bike History Tour of Tiffin, Fair gate helpers, and Harvest Fest volunteers. All of which begins in the month of September! It’s a lot to celebrate so come dressed in your sports apparel and enjoy the kickoff of our church activities!

Children’s Sunday School Children’s Sunday begins September 8 and will be held during the 9:00 a.m. worship hour following the Children’s Chat. It is open to all children Preschool age through 6th grade.

Page 5: rinity Newsthetrinityucc.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sept-2019-Newsletter… · Jannie Snyder for donating her beautiful rocker to the church. To …Sharon & Roger McGuire, all

This year’s teachers are Kara Stansbery, Barb McClain and Jan Pennington. Helpers are Robin Tong, Cathy Lucius, Kathy Russell and Jerry Weininger. Additional Sunday School teachers and helpers are always needed on a rotating basis. If you would like to teach or be a helper, please talk to any one of the above teachers or helpers. Our teaching materials are found online using www.sermon4kids. It’s a very easy resource tool and one the children enjoy as well. Please consider becoming a teacher or helper. You only need to teach or help about once a month, and it’s a great way to get to know the kids.

Acolyte Training – September 8th Would your child like to become an acolyte on Sunday mornings for the 9:00 worship hour? Any students, 3rd grade to 6th grade, who are interested, please contact Joan Davidson at 419-934-3713 or Jan at 419-981-5808. A training session will be conducted on Sunday, September 8 following worship for all the new acolytes. We hope to see many new faces on September 8th. If you have any questions or concerns, Joan will be happy to help. Just give her a call.

Confirmation Class Pastor Elyse will offer Confirmation classes beginning mid-September which will be held during the worship hour twice a month. All parents/youth interested in participating in confirmation are invited and encouraged to attend a Confirmation Informational meeting held Sunday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m. The confirmation class meeting schedule will be determined at this time. Please feel free to contact Pastor Elyse with any questions or concerns. Her contact info is [email protected] or 419-618-1837.

Weekly Bible Study Pastor Elyse will lead a Bible Study on the topic of “Grace” each Monday evening beginning September 23 through Monday, October 14 from

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. All you need to bring is your Bible. If you do not have a Bible, the church has Bibles you are more than welcome to use. This weekly Bible Study is open to all, and feel free to bring a friend.

ADULT PEDAL BIKE OUTING September 18

We are very excited to be able to offer an adult pedal bike history tour of Tiffin through the Tiffin Pedal Company on Thursday afternoon, September 18. The Tiffin Pedal Company offers a 14-seat bike which consists of 10 pedaling seats, 2 non-pedaling seats, and a back bench that can seat 2 more people. They supply a driver, but even though the bike is power assisted, we still will need to pedal. Ben Gillig, a local teacher and the host of Trivia Night in downtown Tiffin, will be our history guide while we bike through the streets of Tiffin. As their website (www.tiffinpedalcompany.com) states, “You've seen the statues and heard the names all of your life, but do you know the stories behind some of Tiffin's most fascinating people and places?.... On the tour you'll hear tales of ambition, ruthlessness, incredible courage and devastating tragedy that helped to shape our great city, and in many cases our nation as a whole.”

We are still trying to determine an exact time for our late afternoon tour to begin. Since Ben is a teacher, it will need to be held after school that afternoon. Watch for bulletin announcements and a Facebook event for the time. We will let you know as soon as possible the time our tour begins.

The approximately 1 to 1½ hour bike tour will end at Fort Ball. Anyone who is not able to join us for the bike tour is invited to join us for supper at Fort Ball.

We hope we will fill the 14-seat pedal bike to capacity for this fun-filled afternoon bike history tour of Tiffin. The cost is $25 per person, plus supper (optional) at Fort Ball. As always, be sure to talk to Pastor Elyse or Jan if financing is an issue, or if you have any questions or concerns.

Consistory Meeting Highlights July 3, 2019

PASTORS’ REPORT: Pastor Elyse will begin confirmation classes in the fall with 5 prospective confirmands. She is also assisting and planning for the upcoming VBS.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: Faith Formation

• Youth/Family Canoe trip planned for July 13, with discussion of other church outings considered.

• Noisy Bucket Offering for July 14 to be used for a Community Sunday Service in future.

• Agreed to continue what was once done by a church member, but will now be done through committee funds, of giving a small gift to the children of the congregation who are going through an illness or injury, so they know the church is prayerfully supporting them.

Maintenance:

• Ken has checked prices for a new outdoor sign which he found to be very expensive. Because of the cost, may just consider repairing/reinforcing the legs and anchoring existing sign into the ground to stabilize it.

Caring Community:

• 6 clean up buckets and 9 personal disaster bags were donated to NWOA for distribution.

• 4 people from the community were assisted this past month.

OLD BUSINESS:

• Carol Hipsher and Linda Gottfried have volunteered to work on the church directory.

• Dave will continue to work with issues on the sound system updates and stained-glass window repairs.

• During the January 2019 Annual Meeting, a motion was passed to place 10% of all money-making projects’ profit into the stained-glass window fund. Consistory will double check with Robin to be sure funds are transferred.

NEW BUSINESS:

• Letter was sent to NWOA on behalf of Trinity UCC requesting Pastor Elyse be considered for Licensed Ministry at Trinity UCC so she can administer the Sacraments at Trinity and offer communion to nursing home and homebound members.

• Gift card to be purchased for Marty Everhart for leading worship on June 23, 2019.

• A rocker has been donated by a member for the overflow room.

• The piano in the sanctuary may need repairs.

• Fairhaven Home has asked for food donations for their Harvest Home Fest in September.

An executive Session was held following the meeting.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Susan Parker, Secretary

LAY SCHOOL OF RELIGION

The Northwest Ohio Association of the United Church of Christ and the Lay School Board offer classes to expand knowledge about the Christian faith to those folks in congregations who are actively involved in the life of the church.

Next Class: Old Testament I Beginning: September 3, 2019 6:45 -9:15 pm Where: NWOA Office - 416 Wentz St. Tiffin Instructor: Rev. Diane Carter Tuition: $90 payable one week before class begins

Why should I study the Old Testament? What difference do those old stories make for our faith as Christians? Isn’t the New Testament more important to us since it’s about Jesus? Have you ever heard, or perhaps even asked these questions? Well, the truth is, the Old Testament is important to us as Christians. In fact, it’s just as important as the New Testament. The Old Testament is important because it is the foundation that the New Testament is built upon. Understanding the New Testament begins with understanding the Old Testament. Unfortunately, the Old Testament can be difficult to understand and even tougher to share with others, whether in a Sunday School class, Bible study, or from the pulpit. So, this first class in Exploring the Old Testament will seek to remove some of the mystery from the Old Testament and shine light on the importance of its stories and scriptures for us as Christians. This class is ideal, not only for aspiring lay ministers, but also for Sunday School teachers, Bible study leaders and anyone who desires to know more about the Bible Jesus used, the Old Testament. To register for the class, contact the Northwest Ohio Association office in Tiffin at [email protected] or by calling 419-447-8323. See bulletin board for additional information.
