Ripples of Anji Session 2017-18

From the Principal’s Desk

Greetings and welcome to the maiden issue of the newsletter “Ripples of Anji”.

“Great things are not done by impulse,

But a series of small things brought together.”

This newsletter, which is being rolled out, marks the launch of an effervescent activity that mirrors our

Campus – a venue where brilliant minds converge and share their vast reserves of knowledge and skills.

A dream becomes a goal when action is taken towards its achievement and we are committed in

constructive and purposeful actions to produce optimistic, independent, compassionate, lifelong learners

and leaders who will bring glory to the alma mater and the motherland.

As a single flower makes no garland, I take this opportunity to acknowledge the extreme hard work of the

dedicated faculty and support staff, who are working round the clock to help this Institution achieve the

zenith of success. The journey that is laced beautifully with triumphs would not have been possible without

the zeal shown by our students – the evergreen all-rounder “Zorawarians”- who make us proud by

displaying exceptional hard work and have brought laurels not only in academics but also in allied arenas of

arts, creativity, sports and debates.

I sincerely hope that this prologue – an eventful journey of invincible Zorawarians- will serve as a mirror to

our multifarious growth and academic vibrancy. Looking back at the achievements of yesteryears, feeling

inspired, accelerating our endeavours to reach the pinnacle of success.

Inspiration, Invention and Innovation are perennial entities that fuel the growth. Every achievement, big or

small, counts but always begins with a single step. This newsletter is a milestone that marks our growth;

unfolds our imagination; gives life to our thoughts and aspirations; moulds and sculpts our ideas; enriches

our souls and ignites the spark of learning ad infinitum.

“The archer is known for his ability but not for his arrows.”

This exclusive exercise undertaken for documenting the talent of our students captured the indelible

moments of our odyssey – a plethora of activities where brilliant minds converge and share their vast

reserves of knowledge and skills to light tomorrow with today.

Under the leadership of worthy Principal, Dr. S. P. Sarswat and the support of all the faculty members and

support staff, I happily present this memoir of achievements to the readers.

Journey Thus Far As we bring out this maiden issue of the College Newsletter- Ripples of Anji, we get nostalgic when we turn back the pages and look back for the humble beginning-the place from where we started our journey. Travelling down the memory lane with a surge of pent- up emotions; one recollects that the long cherished dream of the people of district Reasi became a reality in the year 2003. Since inception, this temple of learning has been growing by leaps and bounds. With the dedication of committed teachers and a galaxy of dynamic principals, the Institution which started with just below twenty students has been able to cross the bench mark of one thousand.

2003

2018

Situated in the village “Mari”, a hamlet which is about five kilometers away from the hustle and bustle of Reasi town, the serene and secluded campus is an ideal destination for the budding youth of Reasi and adjoining areas.

Govt. Gen. Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi | 5

Ripples of Anji Session 2017-18

One stands awed by progress made by the College in all spheres of life. The seed sown in 2003 has started showing spectacular performance. Having unique legacy of being associated with the great warrior, “General Zorawar Singh”, the “Zorawarins” are now Inter-College champions in “Fencing” and have been able to fetch Inter College “Gold” in Boxing (Men) and Archery (Men and Women)

The whole Campus is wi-fi enabled and under CCTV surveillance. Internet has not only proved to be a boon for the students and teachers but also opened up new horizons where even sky is not the limit. Most of the labs along with Multipurpose Hall of the College are equipped with I.C.T tools. Students and staff is being encouraged to make the optimum use of on-line facilities like National Digital Library, MOOCs, SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA. Exposure visits within and outside the State are a part of the routine academic activity. Nearby villages have been adopted where our young minds are contributing significantly by launching awareness derives.

Coming up of a separate Library Block that houses about ten thousand books is an added feather in the cap. Over the years, the next to barren land has become an oasis of lush greenery. The Botanical Garden has also added to the beauty of the Campus.

The Campus has become one such place which can be better described in the words of Nobel Laureate, Gurudev Ravindra Nath Tagore:

“Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection And where mind is led forward by thee Into ever widening thought and action.” No words can reflect the diversity of interest, opinion and background inherent in the reading. The alumni of the College are contributing significantly towards the nation building and also acting as source of inspiration for the freshers.

Yet, a lot needs to be done. The committed team of teachers and support staff, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. S.P.Sarswat, Principal of the College, has been striving hard to make this Institution of learning a “vibrant academic hub.” In the near future, we plan to plug the gaps in infrastructure and also add more facilities for the students and also go for NAAC accreditation. Efforts are being made to introduce several new subjects w.e.f. session 2019-20.

The quintessence of the College can be simply put in the words of great American poet Robert Frost:

“Woods are lovely dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep”
