RISD|CE’scertificateprograminanimationgivesstudentsaglimpseoftheindustryandartthatsurroundthestudyofanimation.Participantsinthisprogrampracticethecraftwithauthentictoolsandtechniquesthatarebothtraditional(pencilandpaper)andcuttingedge(3Dmodelingsoftware).Usingthesemethodstheycreateexceptionalframe-by-framemoviesthatresultfromtheirstudyoffiguredraw-ing,characterdesign,movement,storytelling,modeling,texturingandlighting.InordertoearntheRISD|CECertificateinAnimation,studentsmustcompletefiveapplicablecourseswithinthreeyears.

FromKingKong’swrestlingmatchwithanobnoxiousT-RextoGromit’sfrenziedchaseonamodelrailroad,theprocessofbuildingamovieframebyframehasgen-eratedincrediblecinematicimages–despitethefactthattheresultingdynamicac-tivityissimplyanillusion.Eachindividualmovementisrecordedandthenprojectedataspeedthatfoolstheeyeintoseeinguninterruptedmovement.Studentsinthiscourseformproductionteamsinwhichtheyassumetheroleofcameraoperator,setdesignerandstoryteller.Usingavarietyoftwo-andthree-dimensionalmedia,theygoontocreateabelievablerealityasseeninseveraluniqueshortdigitalvideoexperiments.Bytheendofthesession,studentswillhavelearnedtocombinetheimageswithsoundandproducedaDVDtosharewithfamilyandfriends.
