IntroductionThemed ‘Risks and Opportunities in Today’s Economy’, ACCA Hong Kong’s Annual Conference this year will be held on 25 June 2016 at Conrad Hong Kong.

For 22 years in a row, Hong Kong has retained its top number one spot as the ‘world’s freest economy’, according to the Index of Economic Freedom published by the Wall Street Journal and Heritage Foundation. As one of world’s most open and dynamic economies, Hong Kong is well-exposed to all the economic opportunities and challenges globally. With the closer-than-ever integration with China, as well as China’s opening its borders and plugged itself directly into the global economy, Hong Kong’s role shall be undergoing significant transformation under the ‘new normal’ and the ‘post 13th five-year plan’ era. How Hong Kong act swiftly and get prepared to tap the benefits of the ‘New Economic Order’ and the regional development policies such as ‘One Belt, One Road’ has become a pressing priority.

As a global financial hub, Hong Kong is also vulnerable to the potential world conflicts and rising geopolitical tension. The conference shall analyse how permanent and transitory shocks originating from the rest of the world affect the Hong Kong economy. In light of the challenges facing the local economy, the conference shall explore ways to cope with economic volatilities and safeguard competitiveness.

This Annual Conference, one of ACCA Hong Kong’s signature events, will be part of ACCA Asia Pacific’s series of conferences which will also take place in Beijing, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Singapore. Distinguished guests comprising government officials, senior finance leaders, C-suite executives, high-profile leaders from commercial sector, entrepreneurs, academics and accounting professionals of ACCA will discuss how we foresee the economic outlook and trends as well as how we expect to overcome economic threats.
