Ritson Lodge Review Inside this issue Gardening Project Meet the Animals Young Volunteers meet our Residents Enjoying our BBQ Dates for Your Diary Hello and Welcome! This is the second newsletter we have issued for all our Ritson Lodge Residents, Relatives and Friends. We hope you enjoy reading about events we have had over the past couple of months and events we have planned for the future. We have fantastic news. The CQC have just awarded us a ‘Good’ rating following their recent inspection. I cannot thank our wonderful staff enough for all their hard work and dedication which was needed to achieve this remarkable result. Thanks also to all our relatives and friends who have supported us whilst we have worked towards our goal. Unfortunately, our minibus was the victim of an accident a few months back and was completely written off when a car ploughed into the back of it. Paul, our driver was in the driving seat at the time and was not injured. There was no one else on board at the time. We should have our brand- new minibus delivered in October. In the meantime, we have been able to borrow the minibus from our sister home Oulton Park and have also taken smaller groups out in our other car. If you have any ideas about what you would like to see in our Newsletter or have any ideas about activities and events or trips out and about, please do get in touch with me or our activities team. A Work in Progress

Residents and Jan hard at work planting.

Finished at last. Doesn’t it look wonderful. Some ideas: What you did for fundraising week and how much you raised. How you celebrated Nurses’ Day and Carers’ Week. What you did for Dementia Awareness Week and any other dementia awareness initiatives you have going on.

Garden Make-Over

On 30th July we started our garden make over project. What was a very bare piece of soil has now been transformed by the residents, staff and Jan, the daughter of one of our residents, into something amazing. Together they all helped with choosing plants and flowers and the planting scheme. Big thanks to Jan for donating some plants from her garden and planting them. This project has only just started but we managed to finish one bed as these pictures show.

Enjoying the Sun at the Farm In July our Activities Team took two different groups of residents to Pathway’s Animal Farm where they met and had a great time with the animals.

2 9 th June BBQ to celebrate our 6 th Birthday and Open Day

A group of them came and met the residents for two days and enjoyed activities with them such as skittles, domino’s, painting, drawing and jigsaw puzzles. A few words from Barchester…

International Nurses Day We paid special tribute to all of our nurses on International Nurses Day to thank them for their dedication to the residents and patients they care for in our homes and hospitals. CEO, Pete Calveley, made a special visit to Epsom Beaumont Care Home in Epsom to personally thank each nurse for all the hard work that they do, and presented them each with a branded fob watch as a token of appreciation for their dedication to the home. Every Barchester nurse across the country will also be receiving a branded fob watch to mark this special occasion and their commitment to their roles.

Topping Out at Eastbourne Our newest care home development in Eastbourne celebrated a major milestone with a topping out ceremony. The occasion marked the completion of the latest stage of the 80-bed care home, where the final tile was laid, and the final brick was fitted. The home, named ‘Mortain Place’, will provide high-quality residential and dementia care for older people in the community of Eastbourne, and is set to open its doors to residents for the first time this autumn.

Barchester Now Has 6 ‘Outstanding’ Services

Briardene Care Home in Billingham was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating in March following its most recent CQC inspection, bringing Barchester’s total number of ‘Outstanding’ homes to 6. Our other care homes that have achieved this rating are Lucerne House in Exeter, Forest Hill in Worksop, Red Oaks in Henfield and West Oak in Wokingham, in addition to Billingham Grange Independent Hospital in Billingham. Well done to everyone who has made this possible!

A few words from Barchester…

Barchester Care Awards Thank you to everyone who nominated a team member for the 2019 Barchester Care Awards. Nominations are now closed, but we are delighted to announce that we received 1890 in total. The judges now have the difficult task of choosing the divisional winners, and each of them will be invited to a special celebratory lunch and awards ceremony at The Midland Hotel in Manchester on 3rd October, where the national winners will be revealed.
