We welcome Alexis to Riverina who will be working in Room 4. She has worked in other schools and spent time with Claudia to learn the ropes. Make her feel part our Riverina family and say a friendly hello when you see her. Don’t forget the Breakfast Reading Club: Where: School Library When: Thursday morning 8am-8.30am Parents are welcome to come along and find out about how children learn to read and progress. We are lucky to have talented students at Riverina. Sisters Jayden and Caleigh are dancing at the BNZ Theatre in Manukau in the production of Alice in Wonderland on Sunday 9 th December. Book a ticket to see the show. Nga mihi Carol Dickinson Principal Congratulations As there are no birthdays this week I am delighted to share my favourite part of the job. Two teachers sent students to share their learning. We are all so proud. Elijah for writing and James for reading! Attendance Every week we monitor attendance as this is an indicator of academic and social success. After a great week last week we have dropped to a low of 66% attendance. Please remember the importance of attendance at school. If you need support speak to the class teacher or contact the school office. *Board Announcement * Monday 12 th November - School will be closed As a result of the Teachers who have voted to participate in a rolling strike next week across the whole of New Zealand the Board is closing the school on Monday 12 November for the full day. School will re-open on Tuesday 13 November. sKids will be to open on Monday 12 November and should you wish to use this service please contact Becca de la vega on 0800 754 377 or email [email protected]. Alternatively, you can visit them in the centre at school for further information. We apologise and regret any inconvenience this may cause, and feel free to contact myself through the school. This week we are collecting: Week 4- crackers and biscuits Your child will receive a token when they bring items in. Week 5- lollies and sweet items The raffle will be held on the day of the Celebration Assembly and Whānau Picnic, Wednesday 12 th December. They were beautiful! Principal’s Email group Thank you to the parents who give their time to be part of this group. It helps the school hear family’s ideas and viewpoints. This term the focus will be on the language weeks we celebrate in school. There are generally 5 questions and the survey is sent out in week 5. If there are any parents interested in becoming part of this group, please email [email protected] PB4L Focus This fortnight our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) focus is based on all of our CCK motto. We sit and eat our lunch We are eating together in the hall for social and environmental reasons: We talk quietly to our friends We take away our rubbish We stay seated This term we are continuing with our fortnightly reward to the class that collects the most tokens. Students will choose in class the reward. Room 3 chose a mufti day last week as their class reward1 Hat parade and Athletics Day Friday 9 November 9.40am: Hat parade in the school hall. Students are encouraged to make their own creative hats at home. The school councillors will then judge the hats and prizes will be given to each class for the most creative hat. 10.30am: Athletics Day Will be after morning tea the school will gather on the field for the sprint races. After the races, different classes will participate in either : tabloid sport (fun activities in a rotation) for the younger students athletics field events rotation for the older students The weather forecast presently is not looking great. Please look out for any updated information about a postponement of this event. Important Dates Please check these dates as there may be changes. Our school website has a calendar you can access and the Skool loop app also has a calendar and notifications. Please use these as another way to keep up to date! Many thanks to Cate and Lachlan’s Dad who removed the sink. We still need to clean it by washing the walls, windows and the floor. If you are available on Saturday 17 th November from 9am-11am please come along and help us clean up. We would love to see you there.
