In 1864, Fr John Joseph Therry bequeathed a generous gift which enabled the establishment of Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview as we know it today. Since that time, it has grown from a 12-pupil boarding school to a 1,575 strong College, educating and developing boys to become ‘men for others’ who serve and lead their communities even outside these gates.
Much of this has been made possible due to the generosity of benefactors who have followed in the footsteps of Fr Therry – those generous souls who were able to see a vision of the future and appreciate the role that the College plays in developing the young men who will influence it for the good. This Riverview College Foundation Donor Annual Report records for posterity the names of those benefactors who have given generously to the College across the calendar year 2018.
It is because of people like you that we have seen the redevelopment of the Therry Building – an outstanding facility that enables the delivery of exceptional learning and teaching in an environment that inspires our teachers and prepares students to make meaningful contributions to the world around them.
It is also due to your generosity that 94 bursary students currently enjoy a world-class Jesuit education at Riverview that their families could not otherwise afford. The Riverview Bursary Program – one of the largest of its kind in the nation – enables young men of varying backgrounds to overcome geographic, economic and personal challenges to learn the skills to succeed and develop deep friendships that will help take them through life.
While Fr Therry died without seeing the fruit yielded from the seed he planted, we are fortunate to be able to experience the quality of the Therry Building, to celebrate the achievements of the boys in the Bursary Program, and to know that our gifts are bearing good seed in good soil. Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview is good, well-tended soil, and I thank you for sowing your seed here.
