2.0 IntroductionIn a split Radio Base Station (RBS) architecture the typical RBS consists of a Base Band Unit (BBU) and Remote Radio Heads (RRH) connected by cabling. Power to the RRH is provided through copper cables traveling from the base station to the top of the tower or roof top. This creates a conductive path, making the active equipment at the top and the base of the site vulnerable to damage by direct lightning strikes. Protection systems installed in front of both the BBU and the RRH must be able to withstand direct lightning currents in order to protect the sensitive equipment. Raycap’s RRH solutions featuring Strikesorb® SPD technology significantly enhance the reliability & availability of the RRH site by providing superior electrical protection at the RRH and BBU, and also enable flexible fiber optic and power cable management solutions.

Procedure Installing Fiber Trunk

8.1 Feed cable through the Hybrid Trunk port, and loosely route fiber cables around the cable guides.

Remove the plugs in the fiber connectors to be used – To avoid contamination, do not remove any plugs until fiber is immediately ready to be installed.

Example: pull one plug, plug in fiber, then do the next one, repeat

8.2 Connect the cables into the fiber connection bar starting with the row closest to the back plate.

8.3 Shown: Completed fiber trunk installation.

Procedure Installing Ground and Alarm Wire

10.1 Feed the ground wire through the ground port. Preparation for the length of the ground wire should already be predetermined and prepared for installation.

10.2 Connect the ground wire to the ground terminal (as marked). Raycap suggests using the bottom terminal.

10.3 Feed the alarm wire through the alarm port.

10.4 Install alarm plug to alarm wire and install to mating connector on the board.

10.5 Use N.C. for normally closed contact and N.O. for normally open contact.

10.6 Connect wires according to your established color guide.

10.7 Use supplied labels optionally as necessary.

10.8 Secure all connector caps.

Note: Port size and configuration of enclosure may differ from what is shown.

Adding,ReplacingandConfiguringa Strikesorb Module

11.1 When a Strikesorb Module is installed AND the circuit is powered, the switch should be in the “YES” position and the jumper (11.3) should be in the “YES” position.

However, if there is a strikesorb but no power present, the Switch (11.2) and Jumper (11.3) should be opposite the “YES” position.

Note: If in either case, a Strikesorb is not installed or there is no power to the circuit, both the switch (11.2) AND the jumper (11.3) should be opposite the “Yes” position.
