Introducing: Rugged Machine Vision The RMV 50MP is our newest full-frame cameras for industrial ma-chine vision and photography. Designed from the ground up with the latest technologies, this line of cameras represents a new standard in digital imag-ing. The RMV product line builds on the popular XMV products by adding full 12 bit sampling and data paths, advanced triggering and CCD readout control, built in detectors that analyze the camera’s performance, image processing to remove sensor defects, correct for flat field effects, and on screen tools for analyzing line/columns as well as histograms and text overlay. No longer are you required to depend on custom tools to setup and analyze your demanding imaging systems.

RMV Camera Software The illunis camera control application is available from our website www.illunis.com Make sure you download the app for the correct model cam-era. Manuals are also available from the download page 1.Start with the frame grabber software Before you install our camera application software, install the camera card frame grabber software. Follow the instructions that come with your card, or consult the card-manufacturer for more information. You can start the software that came with your card to see if everything is in-stalled correctly.

2. Install the illunis application Download the illunis camera application and unzip the file into a folder on your desktop. After this is completed, open the folder and browse to the “Packages” folder then double click the setup application you find in that folder. After this is done, go back to the illunis XMV folder and find the latest XMV_9_0_XX application and double-click. A window will open asking you to select a camera number. Select 0 for your first camera. After selecting the camera, you will need to find the camera link frame grabber .dll. Go to your C: drive—Program Files and look for a folder that is created by the frame grabber software. Usually a folder named ’drivers’ has the .dll but con-sult your card manufacturers manual for location Create a short-cut on your desktop to the .dll to make your life easier! NOTE: consult the RMV manual for camera characteristics. This camera has a MECHANICAL shutter and needs to be triggered

3. Starting the software Start the frame grabber software and make sure all the settings are correct. USE THE FOLLOWING SETTINGS: Pixel size: 8176 (h) x 6132 (v) Base config: 8 bit x 2 (or 12 bit x 2) Manual/controlled trigger (do not use free-run trigger) Bayer color or Greyscale—depending on the sensor in your camera After you have an image, click on the .dll link you created to start the illunis application. A window will open, which looks like this:

From this window you can control the app, To control the RMV-50MP, click on the ‘Camera Modes’ tab and select ‘Exposure & Readout’

4. Navigating the illunis application At the top of the illunis application there are several drop down menus. Click around to find out what they do—and simply close the window to get out of it. Here are a few commonly used ones that will make using the camera a lot easier! Click on the ‘Exposure & Readout’ tab to view the camera settings

Here you can change several settings plus display test patterns. This window is also useful to change the Gain, should you have some issues with that.. NOTE: make sure you select the same base con-figuration in the Camera Link Formatting section (8 bit or 12 bit readout) Because the RMV-50MP has a mechanical shutter, you will need to set the exposure time to your lik-ing. Move the slider to the right to increase exposure time, and adjust accordingly.

In this window you can also turn off the fan, enable pixel corrector, column corrector, and enable the strobe. NOTE: make sure the frame grabber bit readout is the same as the illunis application bit-readout Another useful tool is the on screen display. Click on ‘Camera Information’ select ‘On Screen Displays’ and choose from several options. You might wneed to zoom in on the display to see it!

6. Saving settings Click on the ‘Camera State’ tab and select ‘Save Current’ if you want to save your current settings to the camera

6. Using the camera Keep the illunis software application open and return to the Camera Link software. You need to use the CL software in order to capture images, so consult the Frame Grabber Manufacturer for the use of their software. Return to the illunis application to make changes. HINT: The camera comes with a fan which might be too noisy for some. In the ‘Exposure and Read-out’ window you can turn the fan off. The internal temperature of the camera will rise some but if you use the camera in a temperature controlled environment, you can certainly operate the camera for an extended period without the use of the fan. However, it is recommended to keep the fan running in warm climates
