Welcome to the one marathon you won’t want to end. A race so rock ‘n’ roll, the

mile markers are rock bands. Because what’s the point of running if you just want

it to end? Here, you might not break the tape, but the podium isn’t the point. Life is

a journey and running should be a celebration.

TEAM CHALLENGE: GET FIT, MAKE FRIENDS, CHANGE LIVESTeam Challenge is the Crohn’s & Colitis Founda-tion of America’s endurance training and fundraising program. Join us and train for a half marathon, tri-athlon, cycle or IRONMAN event! Athletes registered with Team Challenge raise money to help fund cut-ting edge research that will ultimately lead to cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcer-ative colitis - two painful, debilitating, and seldom-discussed digestive diseases that affect 1 in 200 Ameri-cans, including 150,000 children nationwide.

WHy joIN TEAM CHALLENGE? As one of the premier en-durance training programs in the country, Team Chal-lenge offers great benefits and support as you train

and fundraise. When you join the Team, you’ll receive a custom weekly training program by professional coaches at local venues and an expense-paid weekend at a destination race. Best of all, you’ll help find cures for the 1.4 million Americans suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcer-ative colitis.

joIN THE TEAM IN 2015!We’re forming teams now for half marathons in Napa wine country, Newport, RI and Dublin, Ireland as well as triathlons in Yosemite, Hawaii, Staffordshire (UK), Quebec, Chattanooga and New York City! Get started today: Visit us at expo booth #107,call 866-931-2611, or visitCCTEAMCHALLENGE.ORG!

IT’S VEGAS BABY! With the full and half marathon courses taking place on the Las Vegas Boulevard, you’ll be sure to fi nd a great place to watch your runner journey through the Strip at Night!Start Line: MGM Festival LotFinish Line Exit: Las Vegas Boulevard & Flamingo

TRACK YOUR RUNNERMake sure you sign up for FREE Runner Tracking, compli-ments of Travelers by visiting RunnerTracking.com! Get real-time updates of your family and friends sent to your mobile phone via text message. You and your friends and family will receive up to 10 messages on your progress throughout the race so they can cheer you

on and track your results. Good luck and enjoy the race! To ex-plore all the ways you can save, visit Travelers.com!

ALONG THE COURSEEnjoy incredible views of the Strip at Night while watch-ing for your runner! Instead of standing to wait for your runner to pass by, check out the numerous options of eclectic bars, restaurants and shops on Las Vegas Boulevard. Stop by the “Information” or “Runner Perks” booths at the Health & Fitness Expo for our reccomen-dations!

GETTING TO THE FINISH LINEThe fi nish line is located less than 2 miles from the start line.

Take a scenic stroll along Las Vegas Boulevard toward the fi n-ish line, or take the convenient Monorail from the station located at MGM Grand and exit at the Harrah’s/Imperial Palace Station.

POST-RACE PLANBe sure to discuss a post-race reunion plan with your runner before the race to avoid any confusion following the race. The fi nish line will be extremely crowded with participants, so we recommend to meet your runner at one of the many ho-tels and casinos near the fi nish line. Please note: there will NOT be family reunion signs in the fi nish line area, so making a plan is extremely important.

Night Running

Racing at night presents some interesting challenges for the athlete. You are no longer “In Sync” with your daily bio-rhythms, and the timing affects sleep, diet, and equipment selection. The best advice is to try and simulate race condi-tions, 2-3 days prior to the event. Sleep-in a little, and stay up later, to adjust your ‘internal clock’. Meal planning is also complex, since you want to start the race on an empty stomach, but still have enough fuel. Finally, remember that as this race progresses it actually gets colder [especially in the desert], making it difficult to dress appropriately. The fol-lowing tips will help you plan for your night run, and have a great Rock ‘n’ Roll experience.

• Acclimatize to race time by staying up later, and sleeping-in

• Go for a 2-3 mile run at race time, for a day or two before the event

• Biggest meal pre-race should be breakfast, then a light lunch [pasta, rice, waffle]

• Start with a light sweater tied around the waist and add ‘layers’ as needed

• Consider a light-weight hat, gloves and a headlamp [it will be dark]

• PLEASE fill out the Medi-cal Information on the back of your number bib

40 Rock ‘n’ Roll lAS VEGAS® MARATHon & 1/2 To bEnEfiT THE cRoHn’S & coliTiS foundATion of AMERicA

For many of you, this will be your fi rst marathon or half marathon. Whether this is your fi rst or fi ftieth race, congratulations on your commitment to fi tness and a healthy lifestyle! Whether you choose to run, walk or just rock, the following tips will help to ensure you have a fun and safe Rock ‘n’ Roll experience.

TRAIN

It’s too late to start now, but you need to respect the distance you’ve chosen to walk

or run. There are many diff erent training programs available to you. Be sure you

chose one that had you complete at least 2/3 of the race distance several times during your training period. If not, slow down and

participate at a comfortable pace.

HYDRATE

If you have not calculated your fl uid needs for this race, there are two strategies which

will ensure you don’t under or over-hydrate. The easiest is to only drink when you are

thirsty. If you want to be a little more scientifi c, limit fl uid intake to 4-8 oz of

sports drink every 20 minutes.

SALT

Losing salt through sweating and complex hormone changes during exercise can result in lowering your serum [blood] sodium level. This will not only aff ect

your performance, it may lead to muscle cramping, headache, dizziness and

confusion. Have some sports drink along the course to quench your thirst, or follow

your pre-planned schedule.

If you have questions, stop by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Sports Medicine Team booth at the Expo or visit one of our Medical Tents on race day.We would be happy to assist you. Have fun, be smart, and stay within your limits. In other words, Rock On…

Respect the Distance
