HAPPENINGS Merit Badge college Thank you Linda Jones for running another success- ful Merit Badge College! Roadrunner District Dinner The District Dinner is an annual event which this year is being held at St. Timothy Cumberland Presby- terian Church on April 10 th . If you have never been to a district dinner, you should treat yourself this year. It is an evening of great food and entertainment, door prizes, and adult leader recognition. The addi- tional details for the event are in- cluded on a separate page of this newsletter. As has become a tradition, the din- ner is being catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. Dinner is chicken marsala, penne pasta, their fabu- lous salad and bread. Dessert will also be served although it hasn’t been determined as to what. New this year is a dance troupe to enter- tain us. As for another tradition, there will be a slide show. To make that slide show, I need your Scout photos from the last year. Please bring your collection of photos, from troop, pack and crew meetings, campouts, special events, great Scout and leader shots on CD, DVD or flash drive to the March District Committee meeting, to Spring-O, or (last chance) to April Round Table. You can also catch me at Troop 254 meetings on Monday nights. If those opportunities don’t work, call me at 817 228 7307 to arrange a drop off. This year I am also looking for items for two things: door prizes and a silent auction. You can contact me by phone or by email at [email protected] . Your To-Do list is: 1. Submit photos, 2. Register and pay, 3. Come on April 10 th and enjoy an evening with great food, fantastic memories, leadership recognition, and maybe, an interesting door prize or silent auction find. I’ll see you there. Kate Watson District Activities Chair Training Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Specifics and Introduction to Out- door Leader Skills and Outdoor We- belos Leader Skills is being planned for April 4-5 at Camp Burnett in Southlake. Jay Miller and Tim Em- ery are the Course Directors. Flyers are available at Roundtables and if you contact Jay ([email protected]), Tim (tim- [email protected]), or me ([email protected]). BALOO is also being planned for April 5 at Camp Burnett in South- lake. Monty Copeland is the course director. Flyers are available at Roundtables and from Jay or me. Don’t forget to promote Wood Badge in your units. The dates and application are on the council web site. Your units will benefit from your leaders being trained. You must be trained for your position to attend. If you wonder what those require- ments are ask me or go to the Na- tional Scouting web site and look up “What Makes a Trained Leader”. Also, for your Boy Scouts, you should be sending them to Twin Ar- rows (NYLT – National Youth Lead- er Training). about fire safety and hadto build a fire with flint andsteel. Once the fire wasbig enough, we had to boilwater over it and cook aspaghetti noodle and thentie that in a square knot. And last but not least, thebig race. During the big race, noone got seriously injured. Each team had ropes forpulling and steering. It wasa struggle. The hardestpart was turning the cor-ners. Some of the cartsalmost tipped over. Oneboy even got run over byhis cart as they couldn'tstop fast enough! After all the events wereover, some troops left, butmost stayed. Later in theevening we had a campfireprogram. During thatawards were given to win-ning patrols and we hadsome jokes and skits per-formed. They also an-nounced the winner of thecooking contest, which ourtroop won with a deli- cious dutch oven piz-za.We had lots of funand laughs and Ican't wait until nextyear!Brier Miller, Troop757 Historian
