Winter 2016 | Volume 4 bvhealthsystem.org On October 27, The Courier reported that Interstate 75 was recently named the fifth most dangerous highway in the United States. That should not be a surprise to anyone who has recently traveled wedged between concrete construction barriers on each side of the highway. The road construction that creates this hazardous situation is now moving into Hancock County. During local emergencies, the community relies on Hanco, which became part of Blanchard Valley Health System in 2010, to respond regardless of the location or situation. However, an ambulance is not always capable of reaching accidents safely and efficiently due to construction zones. To address this local safety issue, Hanco wrote a $19,913 grant to the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation for a Bobcat all- terrain sport utility response vehicle. It is equipped with a 40 mph speed kit upgrade, lighting and sirens, along with a removable aluminum transport sled unit to respond in these difficult situations. This unit will enable EMS personnel to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care quickly and safely by bringing victims from hard-to-reach accident areas to a waiting squad. This vehicle will additionally serve large Hancock County community events such as the Flag City BalloonFest, Hancock County Fair, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and Boogie on Main. The Health Foundation is pleased to partner with Hanco to provide this important life-saving service to the community. On October 27, The Courier reported that Interstate 75 was recently named the fifth most dangerous highway in the United States.

To address this local safety issue, Hanco wrote a $19,913 grant to the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation for a Bobcat all-terrain sport utility response vehicle. It is equipped with a 40 mph speed kit upgrade, lighting and sirens, along with a removable

aluminum transport sled unit to respond in these difficult situations.

Support the Bow Tie Fund

Doctors’ Day – March 30, 2017 Look for information in the mail giving you the opportunity to

celebrate and recognize an outstanding physician.

2017 Julie Cole Charity Golf Classic - June 5, 2017 Solicitation for teams and sponsors will begin January 2017.

LEFT: (l to r) Natalie Phoenix, Diane Siefker, Val Johnson, Heather Hooper

Thank you to Diane Siefker from Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s IT Department for donating holiday cheer to our inpatient pediatric patients. Diane delivered more than $1,500 in toys, books and stuffed animals to be distributed by the nursing staff, brightening the hospital stay of many children.

The Blanchard Valley Health Foundation partnered with BowTie Cause of Cincinnati to create a custom-designed bow tie supporting babies born at Blanchard Valley Hospital withdrawing from narcotics they were exposed to in utero. AR Marketing donated their talents and designed the bowtie featuring the BVH apple logo and a small rocking chair.

The BVH apple logo represents Special Care Nursery (SCN) doctors and nurses that comfort these tiny newborns as they go through withdrawal. The rocking chair represents the Cuddler Program where BVH Auxiliary volunteers comfort and rock these babies.

BVH cases of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) are on track to rise to record levels in 2016. Proceeds from bow tie sales will purchase equipment such as special swings and positioning devices to soothe our most vulnerable patients and begin building a fund for programming needs addressing addicted mothers and their dependent babies.

Purchase your tie or complimenting scarf today using the form or contact the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation. Donations may also be made directly to the Bow Tie Fund. Purchase a bow tie. Wear the tie. Share the story.419.423.5457

When you look at your life, and what is important to you, do you consider what your legacy will be? How will you be remembered? Your legacy is as unique as you.

Bequests Change LivesWhat health care experiences have impacted your life? You might be surprised to know the impact planned gifts have had on community health care. In fact, estate gifts have created Caughman Health Center, a public clinic serving thousands each year, and also launched the E.C. Edwards Robotic Surgery Program which allows physicians to provide care for patients with enhanced precision, minimal blood loss and speedier recovery times than traditional open surgery. These generous gifts continue to provide benefits to people served by Blanchard Valley Health System each and every day.

Scholarships Perhaps you possess a strong belief in education and desire to provide support opportunities in health care education to benefit college-bound students and current BVHS clinical practitioners.

Blanchard Valley Health System has the privilege of offering its associates and community students scholarship opportunities to pursue health care careers and can work with you to create your own.

Support Future Technology State-of-the-art equipment and technology not only enhance our ability to deliver the very best health care, but also help in attracting and retaining the best physicians and other health care professionals. These needs are on-going and bequest gifts to this fund support us in our quest for excellence.

Gifts that Provide Income Today Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs) generate dual benefit by establishing a planned gift for our organization to receive in the future and providing lifetime income and tax benefits to you now. A personal and confidential example can be illustrated for you through our new website, below.

Resources For You Are you ready to plan your will or trust? We would like to send you our new 2016 Estate Planning Guide. This guide will offer helpful information to provide for your needs, your family's future and favorite causes. Visit our new planned giving website at http://bvhfgift.org/ to calculate an annuity or explore gift options, view sample bequest language, and request our weekly Gift Legacy eNewsletter.
