CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
LITTLE THEATRE ON ITS 12th
SEASON
JOHN BARLO'W, R. Ph.
Cafe &Tavern
WELCOME!
TO THE TWELFTH SEASON
Although Vivian Vance starring in The Mar-riage-Go-Round on May 25th marks the firstshow of the 1968 spring-summer-fall season atThe Little Theatre-On The Square. this pro-duction will be the ninth opening for producerGuy S. Little. Jr. this year. Immediately afterpresenting Rosemary Prinz in A Girl Could GetLucky in December-January in Sullivan, MY".Little left for Phoenix, Arizona where he wasengaged as producer for the 21st season at thefamous Sombrero Playhouse. While in Phoenix,Mr. Little presented Howard Keel, Ray Walston,Kathryn Crosby. Mildred Natwick. Cornelia OtisSkinner and other greats of American showbusiness in addition to Ann Sathern, RobertCummings and Vivian Vance...all who willappear in Sullivan this season. Mr. Littlereturned to Sullivan in time to remodel thebalcony of the theatre, removing the old pro-jection booth and elevating the seats; and in-stalling a new curved stage curtain-all tocelebrate the opening of the 12th season inSullivan.
Long before Mr. Little opened the GrandTheatre back in 1957. he hoped and plannedthat someday he would have a theatre wheremusicals and plays could be presented. He gothis first job in professional theatre as an ap-prentice at the Keene, New Hampshire SummerTheatre in 1951 and worked the two followingsummers at the Gateway Musical Playhouse nearAtlantic City.
After graduation from the University ofMiami, Mr. Little took graduate courses atColumbia University and The American TheatreWing before returning to central Illinois in thespring of 1957 to Jook for a theatre location.
Not having success locating a suitable theatrein any of the larger cities in downstate Illi-nois, Mr. Little decided to lease the moviehouse in his native Sullivan. Since the openingof Brigadoon on July 3. 1957. Mr. Little haspresented 112 major productions-both playsand mqsicals-featuring many outstanding starsand supporting casts from Broadway, Hollywood,TV and Opera. The first season ran nineweeks and had an attendance of 8.000. TheLittle Theatre-On The Square was open fortwenty-four weeks last year and had an at-tendance of 80,000....a most gratifying in·crease! The Little Theatre-On The Square alsohas a Children's Theatre which presents pro.ductions for young audiences on Saturdays dur-inl( late June. July and AUl(ust. Mr. Littlestrongly believes that stock should be a prov-ing-ground and workshop for young talent todevelop as actors-singers-dancers and technicians.Thirty outstanding apprentices are accepted eachyear from over 100 applicants; these young stu-dents who have come from most. every state
