ROC & LEISURE NEWS TERM1/2016
WELCOME TO OUR SUMMER ROC & LEISURE NEWSLETTER FOR 2016!
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Term 4 at Creating Links!
We are very excited to announce that we are extending our services throughout South Western Sydney. Programs have
commenced in Auburn, Campsie, Camden, and Mittagong. The new program, ‘Link & Play Club’, will cater to children between
the ages of 5 and 12 years old, with an Intellectual Disability and/or Developmental Delay. ‘Link & Play Club’ will run fortnightly,
on a Saturday, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. Children will be invited to participate in in-house activities and excursions that have
been designed to assist them in developing their social skills, developing new friendships, and gaining an increased sense of
independence and engagement with the community around them.
In the past term, Creating Links offered carers of children with a disability the opportunity to participant in a free health
program. ‘My Body, My Well-Being’ provided carers with two educational sessions about making healthy food choices, and a six
week exercise program. Thank you to ClubGRANTS Bankstown for making the program possible.
Creating Links also had the opportunity to host free NDIS information sessions on Tuesday 24 November 2015 and on
Wednesday 2 December. To better help you prepare for the NDIS, additional information sessions will be organised in the new
year. The NSW rollout of the NDIS is expected to cover 140,000 participants. From 1 July 2016, the NDIS will be available in 7
districts (Central Coast, Northern Sydney, South Western Sydney, Southern NSW, Western Sydney and the remaining people in
Hunter New England and Blue Mountains Nepean. From 1 July 2017, the NDIS will begin to be available in Illawarra, Mid North
Coast, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW, South Eastern Sydney, Sydney, Western and Far West.

purchase an Opal Card so you may access public transport when necessary. If you are attending a group where you will be
taking the train, you are required to have an Opal Card with you. Please see the attached information sheet for more details.
We will also like to welcome our new Respite Support Workers; Mahesh, Shubha and Patrick. They are very exited to meet you
and be part of Creating Links team. on a sad note we will like to say good bye to Anne and wish her the best of luck in her
future career.

How do I pay for the activities? At the start of the term, Creating Links will provide you with an invoice listing the activities you have been booked into for the term. Prior to the commencement of the term we ask that you pay all fees. You may issue a cheque to Creating Links. or direct bank deposit the fees. Alternatively, cash payments will be accepted at the Creating Links office in Bankstown. Staff will not take money on the day of the activity.
What do I do if I’m running late? If you are running late, please call the contact number provided in this newsletter. If you are more than 15 minutes late the group will not be able to wait for you and are required to leave.
How should I prepare for an activity? Refer to the calendar to identify where you are going for the day. For example, if you are going to the swimming pool you will know to bring a swimming costume and towel. It will also detail whether you may bring or buy lunch. Please remember to keep yourself hydrated by bringing water. Also, make sure you wear comfortable closed shoes to all of our activities.
What happens if it is raining? Our programs go ahead, rain or shine! However, please be mindful that due to weather conditions the activities organised may change.
What do I do if I can’t attend the activity? If you are unable to attend an activity, please let us know 24 hours beforehand. This will allow someone else on the waiting list the opportunity to participate in an activity. If you do not turn up on the day you will be charged with a ‘no show’ fee. If you have any questions regarding this please feel free to speak to Gissell on 8713 7700.
Will Creating Links ever cancel an activity? Activities go ahead given we meet the minimum booking requirements for the day. If we do not have enough participants, we will inform carers that the activity is cancelled.
Can I attend more than one program? Yes, you can! If you meet the eligibility requirements for the program (as discuss on the right), you can attend any program, given there are vacancies available.
