It is my hope and prayer that we will all have many more smachot (joyous occasions) to share in the coming years! Becoming a grandmother has given me a renewed sense of awe and also a sense of a new start in life. There is something so indescribably special about welcoming a grandchild into the circle of family and friends! As I write these words we enter the month of Elul, a time used traditionally to begin engaging in the pro- cess of heshbon nefesh (an accounting of the soul) and teshuva (repentance). At the same time, we begin to sense the changing of the seasons and the approach of the High Holidays. We look for special inspiration and for new direction.
