1. THE ROLE OF THE Christian Husband
2. To discuss specific areas in family life where the husband
should take active leadership & responsibility To explain the
role & responsibility of a Christian husband
3. For us to grow as a Pastoral Team in the family, we must
understand more clearly our role as a husband.
4. For many of us, our understanding of responsibility is
one-sided in which we: 1. Have Authority 2. Manage /direct
things
5. The other side of responsibility is to give an account Heb
13 Not only do we men have Gods authority to get things done, but
we will be held accountable for what we have been given to do.
6. - Imminence of retribution for an unfulfilled trust or
violated obligation. (Websters Dictionary) a. Mt 25: 14- 30 Parable
of the Silver Pieces b. God does not hold us accountable for things
beyond our control. ( situation, peoples lives)
7. 14 Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who
called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he
gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one
bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16
The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his
money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with
two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received
one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his masters
money. 19 After a long time the master of those servants returned
and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five
bags of gold brought the other five. Master, he said, you entrusted
me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.21 His
master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been
faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many
things. Come and share your masters happiness! 22 The man with two
bags of gold also came. Master, he said, you entrusted me with two
bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.
8. 23 His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge
of many things. Come and share your masters happiness! 24 Then the
man who had received one bag of gold came. Master, he said, I knew
that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and
gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and
went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs
to you.26 His master replied, You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew
that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not
scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on
deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have
received it back with interest. 28 So take the bag of gold from him
and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be
given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have,
even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that
worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.
9. As a general principle, men are supposed to be responsible
for the people of God. They take the leadership. Women are
responsible but in a different way.
10. HEBREWS 13:17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to
their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must
give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a
burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. A. GOVERNANCE OF
PEOPLE AS A WHOLE
11. EXODUS 3:16 16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel
together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God
of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I
have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in
Egypt. A. GOVERNANCE OF PEOPLE AS A WHOLE
12. B. LEADERSHIP IN WORSHIP 1 TIM 2: 8; I will therefore that
men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and
doubting.
13. B. LEADERSHIP IN WORSHIP 2 CHRONICLES 5 When all the work
Solomon had done for the temple of the LORD was finished, he
brought in the things his father David had dedicatedthe silver and
gold and all the furnishingsand he placed them in the treasuries of
Gods temple. 2 Then Solomon summoned to Jerusalem the elders of
Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite
families, to bring up the ark of the LORDs covenant from Zion, the
City of David. 3 And all the Israelites came together to the king
at the time of the festival in the seventh month. 4 When all the
elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark, 5 and
they brought up the ark and the tent of meeting and all the sacred
furnishings in it. The Levitical priests carried them up; 6 and
King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered
about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle
that they could not be recorded or counted.
14. 7 The priests then brought the ark of the LORDs covenant to
its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy
Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. 8 The cherubim
spread their wings over the place of the ark and covered the ark
and its carrying poles. 9 These poles were so long that their ends,
extending from the ark, could be seen from in front of the inner
sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still
there today.10 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets
that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a
covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt. 11 The
priests then withdrew from the Holy Place. All the priests who were
there had consecrated themselves, regardless of their divisions. 12
All the Levites who were musiciansAsaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their
sons and relativesstood on the east side of the altar, dressed in
fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were
accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets. 13 The trumpeters and
musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to theLORD.
Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers
raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: He is good; his
love endures forever. Then the temple of the LORD was filled with
the cloud, 14 and the priests could not perform their service
because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple
of God.
15. JAMES 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the
elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him
with oil in the name of the Lord. C. PROVIDING PROTECTION
16. ACTS 20:28-31 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the
flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds
of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know
that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will
not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise
and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.
31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never
stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. C. PROVIDING
PROTECTION
17. C. HEAD OF THE FAMILY EPHESIANS 5:22 Wives, submit
yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
18. Men need to understand more the importance of the family
and his responsibility to see that it is what God intends.
19. Mens typical pattern is to leave home and family to wife,
while he is responsible for providing the money
20. SCRIPTURE TEACHES US THE FATHERS PROPER ROLE 1 Samuel
2:12-26 12 Elis sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the
LORD. 13 Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any
of the people offered a sacrifice, the priests servant would come
with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being
boiled 14 and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or
caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take
for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came
to Shiloh. 15 But even before the fat was burned, the priests
servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing, Give
the priest some meat to roast; he wont accept boiled meat from you,
but only raw. 16 If the person said to him, Let the fat be burned
first, and then take whatever you want, the servant would answer,
No, hand it over now; if you dont, Ill take it by force. 17 This
sin of the young men was very great in the LORDs sight, for they
were treating the LORDs offering with contempt.
21. 18 But Samuel was ministering before the LORDa boy wearing
a linen ephod.19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and
took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the
annual sacrifice. 20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying,
May the LORD give you children by this woman to take the place of
the one she prayed for and gave to the LORD. Then they would go
home. 21 And the LORD was gracious to Hannah; she gave birth to
three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in
the presence of the LORD. 22 Now Eli, who was very old, heard about
everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept
with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
23 So he said to them, Why do you do such things? I hear from all
the people about these wicked deeds of yours. 24 No, my sons; the
report I hear spreading among the LORDs people is not good. 25 If
one person sins against another, God may mediate for the offender;
but if anyone sins against the LORD, who will intercede for them?
His sons, however, did not listen to their fathers rebuke, for it
was the LORDs will to put them to death. 26 And the boy Samuel
continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with
people.
22. SCRIPTURE TEACHES US THE FATHERS PROPER ROLE Jos 24:14 14
Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in
truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other
side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. Eph 6:4 4
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them
up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

26. The Lord is our ultimate source of strength: he is the way,
the life and the truth. He is the source of wisdom. When we feel
weary and find life burdensome, we should turn to the Lord Mt. 11:
28- 30 (NEXT SLIDE)
27. MT 11: 28-30 28 Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and
learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is
light.

Lord anoints his leaders. During your weekly household meeting,
open up yourself to brothers that you may receive the needed
support.

the areas mentioned? How can I get more help and support from other
Christian husbands?
