In 1823, the Freedom fighter Raja Ram Mohan Roy published three magazines to campaign against caste discrimination, sati and the cause of widow remarriage. His publications strongly advocated the rights of the deprived community.

Sambad Kaumudi regularly editorialised against Sati, denouncing it as barbaric and un-Hindu.

Sambad Kaumudi, a news weekly, covered topics such as induction of Indians into high ranks of service and separation of the executive and judiciary.

ACTIVE CONTRIBUTION IN BRINGING SOCIAL CHANGES

Mahatma Gandhi made use of journalism for the social reform.

He focused the issues of Human Rights and exposed the evil practices of untouchability.He exposed an inhuman activity of the upper caste people, and strongly raised voice for the basic rights of targeted community.

He also crusaded for women rights, detained people’s rights, community health, rural employment, basic education.

Reformers after 1857 war performed a dual role of as journalist and nationalists.

• Media has brought about a change in people’s �thinking, their opinions and has made them more aware. It’s rightly said that Media should be a Mirror of the Society. Media has a wider reach than any other organization in the country and hence it should use the information collected on various aspects in an unbiased way to help wipe out the injurious political system as well as other malice like corruption, anti national activities .
