INAGURAL SESSION
Prof. Ashish Pandey, Coordinator, RCI-UBA, IIT Roorkee
welcomed the dignitaries and all the participants to the
webinar. Prof. Ashish Pandey commenced the webinar that
featured Shri Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, a distinguished Indian
farmer, educator, trainer and doyen of organic farming as a
keynote speaker. He has won several awards such as Padma Shri, the Progressive
Farmer Award conferred by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Doctorate of
Science (honoris causa) by Pantnagar Agricultural University, Dharti Mitra Award
during the Organic World Congress, to name a few, for his exemplary contribution
to the Indian agriculture. At present, he trained over 5,00,000 farmers with free
facilities.
Prof. M. Parida, Deputy Director, IIT Roorkee in his address
highlighted that our motivation to actively participate in rural
development will be strengthened by the experience of Bharat
Bhushan Tyagi Ji. His contribution for the nation will be very
beneficial in the farming sector. The initiatives taken by Shri

Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee welcomed
the Padma Shri Bharat Bhushan Tyagi Ji. He said, His
achievements have the potential to inspire youth to take up
agriculture as a profession. Shri Tyagi is a torchbearer of India’s
march towards organic farming. Through his success in Western
Uttar Pradesh, he has shown that organic farming can become a people’s
movement. With numerous accolades for his contributions to agriculture, Shri
Tyagi is a role model for today’s generation.
Padma Shri Bharat Bhushan Tyagi briefly explained in his
talk on the topic “Role of Organic Farming in Rural
Development and Self-Reliant India” that agriculture is the
foundation of rural India and is the largest employer in the
country. Strengthening the agricultural base will have
cascading effects in ensuring food security, generating employment, facilitating
ancillary industrial development, and boosting national income. The Indian youth
should come forward to opt for a career in agriculture and allied fields that can
play an important role in strengthening the rural economy. He also recalled that
his journey was fraught with several challenges but he did not lose hope and
continued it with full dedication to achieve excellence.
He believes that farming will not be done by cost but by understanding the
natural system.
During the interactive session, few questions were raised by the
participants, which were answered by Shri Tyagi.
In the end, Prof. Anil Kumar Gourishetty, Convener,
Institute Lecture Series Committee proposed a formal vote of
thanks to Padma Shri Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, Prof. Ajit K.
