OXIDATIVE STRESS
Oxidative stress reflects an imbalance between the systemic manifestation of reactive oxygen
species and a biological system's ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or to
repair the resulting damage.
What are free radicals?
Reactive oxygen species
Free radicals acumulate

lAt the cellular level, PD is related to excess production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lto alterations in catecholamine metabolism, to modifications in mitochondrial electron transporter lChain (METC) function or to enhancement of iron deposition in the SNpc.

CONCLUSIONOxidative stress is considered as the major underlying cause of various diseases. It is found that generation of reactive metabolits play a central role in cell’s life. These metaboloites are continuously controlled by endogenous antioxidant enzyme system, which may be enzymatic or non-enzymatic or transitional metals. Thus, the balance is created between pro-oxidants and antioxidants. Reactivemetabolites play important biological functions in calls in a controlled environment. The impairment of antioxidant status, either by exogenous or endogenous sources, may disturb the cellular redox balance and the pathological condition would be the main characteristics and forms oxidative stress in cells and tissues. There by leading to various diseases.
