“Jesus said to his disciples, ‘As the Father loves Me, so I also love you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept the Father’s commandments and remain in His love… This is My commandment: love one another as I love you… It was not you who chose Me, but I who chose you and
appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain… This I command you: love one another.’” In His prayer Jesus is preparing the disciples for their work when He takes leave of them. How frequently John’s gospel uses the word ‘remain’, stay close, be cemented, don’t stray. Besides telling them what to do, He assures them that He too will be part of their lives for He loves, not just loved them. He then gives them the task to put into action, to go and bear fruit. Am I unsure or afraid what the Lord asks of me? I shouldn’t be, because I am both loved by Him at this moment, and He has both chosen me and appointed me. He is waiting for my response. “Como el Padre me amó, también yo los he amado a ustedes. Permanezcan en mi amor. Si cumplen mis mandamientos, permanecerán en mi amor. como yo cumplí los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor… Este es mi mandamiento: Ámense los unos a los otros, como yo los he amado… No son ustedes los que me eligieron a mí, sino yo el que los elegí a ustedes, y los destiné para que vayan y den fru-to, y ese fruto sea duradero… Lo que yo les mando es que se amen los unos a los otros.” En su oración, Jesús prepara a sus discípulos para el trabajo que les encomienda cuando El los deja. A menudo en los evangelios se utiliza la palabra ‘permanecer’, quedar cerca, estar afianzado, no alejarse. Además de indicarles qué hacer, les asegura que El también será parte de las vidas de aquellos que lo aman, además de amarlos. Luego les da una tarea para poner en acción, la de ir y dar fruto. ¿Tengo miedo, o no estoy seguro de lo que el Señor me pide? No debe ser así, ya que soy amado por El en este momento, y El me ha elegido y destinado. El espera mi respuesta.
Durante la lettura del Vangelo, nel corso della celebrazione liturgica, è il Signore Gesù Cristo che parla ai suoi discepoli. Oggi ci dice che siamo tutti suoi amici, che gli apparteniamo attraverso la fede e attraverso il battesimo. Egli l’ha provato rivelandoci il suo segreto e la sua missione di Figlio di Dio. Ci ha detto che Dio, nella sua onnipotenza divina, ci ama tutti. Per mezzo di suo Figlio Gesù Cristo, ci ha fatto entrare nella
comunione di amore che esiste fin dall’eternità tra lui e suo Figlio. “Come il Padre ha amato me, così anch’io ho amato voi”. È una parola di verità potente e divina. Per tutti quelli che hanno preso coscienza dell’importanza di questo dono divino, conta una sola cosa: mostrarsi degni dell’amore che ci viene nell’amicizia del Figlio di Dio. “Rimanete nel mio amore”. Per Gesù Cristo, ciò che è importante innanzitutto è che tutti i suoi amici si amino gli uni gli altri come egli stesso ha amato i suoi discepoli nel corso della sua vita terrena. La più viva espressione di questo amore è stata la sua morte sulla croce per i peccatori (cf. Gv 1,36; 19,34-37). L’amore perfetto del Padre celeste è la felicità e la gioia di suo Figlio. E questa gioia, il Figlio risuscitato la trasmette ai suoi amici nel giorno di Pasqua. “Pace a voi! Come il Padre ha mandato me, anch’io mando voi!”. Ricevete lo Spirito Santo!” (Gv 20,21-22). Egli offre senza sosta la gioia a tutti quelli che credono nella sua parola e per mezzo del battesimo si uniscono a lui e alla sua cerchia di amici, la Chiesa. Chi entra nell’amore di Dio per mezzo di suo Figlio ha ormai una ragione essenziale per essere sempre felice.
